I saw some highlights of Marshall today. He is a jet. Could go top 7 or 8 if he has a big championships. Reckon we should try and get another first rounder.

Why would a kid with shocking footskills be projected as a top 10 pick?

P.S. I was hoping you were going to put me in my place and tell me he's actually an elite kick but for some unknown reason had a really bad day.

Lots of inside mids (IM) don't have fantastic kicking as they often 'hack it out of packs'.

some examples:
Luke Hodge for example kicked at 53% in the AFL last year (IM/Def), Scott Pendlebury 68% (IM) & Dane Swan 55% (IM/SF), Adam Oxley 75% (OM)

All those four are different players in a sense, but those stats surprised me in a sense with kicking accuracy. Your outside players usually kick better % wise. A Richmond player for example Trent Cotchin has a pretty average kick... Josh Dunkley a player drafted last year kicked at 50% in the TAC Cup.
---

Powell-Pepper is an Inside midfielder, with a strong work rate wins a lot of clearances and tackles hard- And is rated a top 10 pick because of that. He isn't going to hurt you with his kick but what he will do is clear the ball from stoppages, tackle hard (and hack the ball forward which sometimes does & doesn't find a player).

There may be an opportunity for that to happen with free agency. Depend on what level of compensation we'd get if Vickery left
A quality KPF would be a great addition alongside an inside mid

The pick of the current TAC cup players is actually bottom age so may not be eligible for the upcoming draft - but keep an eye on James Worpel ... he is a gun ! plays forward, back and through the middle ... E L I T E !!

Hi Mrs Worpel.

Can't believe that i'm looking at 2016 draft crop already but that's what happens when your season is over this early. from my couch ive picked out the following 2 inside mids that appear to fit our needs:
Sam Powell-Pepper
Position:
Midfielder
Size: 186cm, 83kg
If fellow WA hyphen Petrevski-Seton is class, class, class, Powell-Pepper is tough, tough, tough. An outstanding ball winner, Powell-Pepper is a strong-bodied midfielder who impressed in the WAFL colts last year, averaging 18 disposals, three clearances and one goal from seven games. He is very composed and even played off half-back in the 2015 NAB AFL Under-18 Championships, rating above average for disposals and metres gained.
knowing our luck he'd get home sick after 3 years and head back to WA for a 3rd round pick.

To all the tigerheads in here. Which part of we didnt have any hopes for flags and our recruiting was focused on making us competitive only, dont you get? Like it has been stated by our footy manager that our FOCUS was purely on sucking the fans dicks who were despearate to go the G for a final....that to me is a neon light that says, we tank our arses off this year and load up with however many picks we can get by trade and start again...THE ******* END

From Dan Rs interview I thought the most concerning part was the fact that they are still trying to work out their drafting/trading strategy for this year. Clearly they were hoping to trade a first rounder and potentially a future pick for an established gun and have a crack at winning a flag from next year. The results this year however seem to have blindsided the club and now i think they are in two minds - trade out picks for a gun and try for a flag immediately or keep the picks and focus a little further down the track. Will be interesting to see what eventuates.

Can we draft a mid. A proper one.

I like mids that work hard both ways. Should be looking at this type of player particularly with later picks. Our current crop are all one way players, with no defensive skills.
Look at our opponent this weekend - Parker pick 40 2010; Hannebery pick 30 2008; Kennedy traded 2009. All guns, none first rounders, all work hard when they haven't got the ball.

I think it also depends on if anybody is available who is worth a high pick.

Need to wait and see if we can get our hands on a Prestia, or a fit O'Meara, etc

That needs to be taught . Sydney have been doing this for 20 yrs
It's a FD issue. Why can't BEllis Cotchin etc work hard both ways?
They're got two arm and two legs. It's in the head that counts followed by a fit and fully strengthened body. We lack in all aspects

You're right TI it is a coaching issue as well. Having said that I still think we need to recruit mids that have the mind set to chase, tackle and block.

If we actually manage to implement a game plan that requires these skills ,these type of players will be important

i'd rather we trade into the Draft as best we can, being it's a mini rebuild that's the way to go IMO. target 3-4 picks inside 30 if we can

There is a bolter starting to emerg akin to Oliver last year.

There is from what I've heard... Not sure where this bolter fits in at AFL level though.

On another note- Big win to QLD in the champs, all 'big' named academy kids starred. Don't suppose Gold Coast want another first round pick in exchange for Prestia :p
