I know FJ and the recruiters loved him in his draft year and there was talk he might slip to 12 at one point.

he would definitely fill a need there but the ironic thing is, reece is much more than a back pocket player. just my opinion but he was really played out of position this year for both the rays and in vic country.

he is one of the best kicks going around and can kick accurate over great distance (50-60m), has elite speed, strong grab and is smart with the ball.

he played back pocket for the rays with the primary duty of taking kick outs, but in their last game he was moved to a wing / midfield for the last 2 quarters and had 3-4 direct goal assists and kicked the winning goal himself.

if we got him, the backline would be a great starting point for him development wise, would add some dash if given the license to run, but with the long term view of moving up the ground i reckon.


EDIT: For what its worth, him being played out of position is the main reason why he isnt being considered high up in the draft order in my opinion. he wasnt given the chance to let his talent show, he was restricted to the back 50 all year. despite that he still was named in the best 7-8 times.

he plays on a wing / high HF most of the year and i'm tipping his draft value would be inside the top 35-40 easily.

Obviously had other plans with caddy this year. Maybe we changed our mind on him? Maybe he didnt want to come to us? So many factors theres no point getting worked up over it.

Steele nominated St Kilda. Im sure we would have put our hand up for him but with todays football once a player nominates a club to go to they very rarely miss their target.

A question I have to anyone, about what type of player we are likely to target?

What's the clubs view of CEllis (and other midfielders) after the trade period that saw us us bring in Caddy and Prestia?
Do they think we have enough depth now, or are they looking at further additions with out three selections?
Do we have confidence that CEllis will become the player they'd hoped for?

I would say that we are more than likely to draft 3 inside mids in 5 picks across senior & rookie selections

That tells me that C.Ellis probably hasn't lived upto what was expected and they would be hedging their bets

Don't think we have 5 spots left, only 4. But suspect we will go with a 39 senior player list and only take 2 in the draft.
