List Mgmt. 2016 Draft - It was on last Friday.

Such a strange feeling..first year in a while I have no idea who I want or who we will get. Our draft position is shocking.
We should create a top 5 list of who everyone wants :)
From what I have seen.

MY TOP 5:
Sam Powell-Pepper
Jordan Ridley
Shai Bolton
Scheer
Some tall, Himmelberg?
Although unlikely SPP will drop to 27, no problem putting him on a 'want' list as it 'could' happen. But Scheer is an absolute zero chance at 27. Suns will match there. There's a chance should a team go for him in the teens, Suns will think hard is the rumour. Watched him play from 13. Played senior NEAFL at 15. Can play!

So you recruit another inside mid in this draft, who are these guys going to feed the ball out to?
Prestia will play mostly outside with his class and pace, while helping in clearances. Wont really play inside

Maybe a combo?...can I get a large chips with that?:p

We could do a lot worse than rookie Shane Nelson.
Has pace and wins his own footy.
you have wanted that for a few years now yeah? meh we have given spuds like thomas a go on the list so why not

We struggle winning the ball he wins the ball.
Even with limited game time this year through injury he still got heaps of the ball.

Rioli, Menadue, Markov, Ellis, Houli and McIntosh. Martin and Prestia are capable inside and out. I haven't included Yarran but if he was to play (know its a big if) add him to that list.

Finals footy is won on the back of hard contested football. Just don't think we have enough guys on the list that are capable of winning their own ball. Particularly our young crop, name me one player drafted after Martin that looks like being a gun inside mid.

Before we drafted Prestia and Caddy we had 2 x Quality mids.
1. Couldn't shake a tag in Cotchin
2. The other has little defensive side and runs one way in Martin
We have 2 more developing in Menadue and Markov
All the others are fillers, have some good attributes but too many glaring weaknesses, that's why you tag Cotchin and run off Martin and you blow us away
Miles, Grigg, Ellis x2, Macintosh, Houli all have weaknesses that get exposed
We just need more genuine MUDs, ball winners and runners but guys that know how to play and have some skills.
Martin should play forward and Cotchin on the outside, add Prestia and Caddy and we are still 2 mids short IMO.

I want to see us take in the draft (in my quite uninformed opinion):

27. Josh Begley (187cm/87kg General Forward/ Inside Midfielder) - If the likes of Powell-Pepper and Berry are not there
56. Jack Maibaum (192cm/91kg Defender)
78. Kayle Kirby (181cm/86kg Medium Forward) - Not sure if he'll last until the rookie draft so put him here. There are a couple of Phantom Drafts/ Power rankings that had him drafted in the main draft, so I'll put him here.

Haven't really addressed our KPP needs but we should perhaps wait until next year for that. It was mentioned that there are quite a few KPPs at the top end. Maybe we can change the structure of our play in the meantime.

I like it. But you'd be doing cartwheels if Maibaum got there- not out of the realms that Kirby goes rookie from what I hear....

Yeah some say that Maibaum will go in the 40s.

By the way, do you think Esava Ratugolea will be picked up this draft? And if he won't my understanding is that he can be picked up as a Category B rookie right?

To be a Cat B rookie you need to be overlooked in the national & the rookie draft. I can't see that happening with him. In reality if they aren't picked in either- they probably aren't any good.

Yeah that is true I guess, and especially with talls. I'll be interested to see if we end up picking him up somewhere along the line.

Talking about hedging our bets.Seeing that we have recruited Prestia,Caddy & (Yarran) and the lack of depth in our tall dept.Could it be likely that considering we have 2 1st rnd picks next year that we take a tall this year with our 1st and take a tall and a quality mid next year?

Midfielder this year

2 X 2017 1st rounds picks to GC for Tom Lynch next year

2?.No way.lol

lets face it. both 1st round picks could be 10 to 18.

last 3 years has kicked 46, 43 and 51 goals and is starting to become a quality key forward, 25 years old come end of next year.

they will want a 1st rounder and a player. but depending on their academy selections they may settle for 2 x first rounders.

just had a feeling with now 2 x first rounders next year and us needing another key forward with Jack's age and griff's injury problems we will go for it. caddy and prestia as pulling power too.

just a hunch thats all
