No chance:

McCluggage
McGrath
Ainsworth
Petrevski-Seton
Brodie

Big ???:

Marshall
Venables
Scrimshaw (if he stays fit)

Battle is being a bit overrated in my opinion.
The big drawcard with Battle is his endurance for a KPF. An AFL club will back itself in to teach him the right running patterns etc. to outwork opponents at the next level. I agree he is being a little overrated at the moment but he has definitely had his moments, plays well at TAC cup level and has that drawcard.

speaking of another tall with a big endurance base, what are your thoughts on Sproule?

Definitely a fan, probably a perfect fit for us but he probably sits before our pick or around that mark so he will go straight to GWS as a replacement for Cam McCarthy I am assuming.

I just wonder if GWS can fit all of Sproule, Perryman, Setterfield, Mutch & Macreadie
because they'll probably all receive first round bids

Certain clubs seem to be reluctant to bid, so I imagine they won't all be bid for where they should. I'd be shocked if they all went first round. Even if they did though GWS would be able to afford them, with trading down for more points, and picks moving up the order as bids are matched, it ends up being quite easy to get all the academy players they want. I imagine they'll be trading some players out as well.

Watched the Allies vs WA game. The top prospects from the allies through the midfield seem to be coasting a bit, possibly drinking some of their own bath water, possibly instructed to take it easy or possibly because they lack a bit of mongrel. Either way, the players that impressed me from the game were Rotham who looks a really nice prospect, Sproule who works super hard and will look even better at AFL level, English whose kicking skills for his height are incredible, Marshall and SPP. SPP I am not sure what position he is best suited to. Has some great athletic attributes, decent kick and knows where the goals are but not sure what he is really. Scheer played well and has looked quite good each time I have seen him and Allison is impressive when he's around the ball. Few other prospects from the Allies team that do some nice things but we won't get our hands on them unless they aren't wanted by the academy clubs. I also liked some of Shai Bolton's work but I probably wouldn't spend early on him at all. He is tiny so could be a while off playing AFL footy. Not a fan of the WA mids.

Having seen very little of the kids this year, besides last years under agers, I really like the sound of McGrath. Seems to have the qualities Dal rates.

twitter, someone posted it on the draft board/phantom draft
I believe on bishops thread
Got link? Can't find it on my phone.

Not very often someone gets talked up like SPS has to go second round.

Not a fan of Powell-Pepper at all? Even at our second?

I was trying to keep quiet about Rotham, thanks James ;)
yeah I like him but I don't know his best position. Like his athleticism/power/size combo, but didn't see any real midfield work that stood out. His best plays were V-lining the ball and wanting it more. Hard to judge prospect. Rotham is electric, should be noticed soon enough. Needs to stay involved. Took a great grab down back.

Rothams height not an issue for you? I want to see him play on someone decent first, but I could see him slotting into our side nicely

On Powell-Pepper, his kicking as improved from what I saw last year & I expect it could improve again with more focus on it.

Not an issue at all and I don't see him playing a key position either, or really playing 'on' anyone. Would probably be a rebounding weapon first and foremost and standing at 192cm would make him a tall one. So long as he has a decent leap and standing reach he can recover any cm lost on the top of his head.

SPP kicking wasn't a huge issue for mine.

Anyone else hear that next year apparently GWS have an even better crop of academy picks? Do we just accept that year after year they get to do this? They've already got a list capable of a premiership in a couple years, and each year they add to it with unfair academy drafting. I'd love someone to look into how many of these kids would be playing footy anyway, from the sounds of it all of this years crop would have been. The whole thing is a joke and I honestly think it's going to ruin the integrity of the competition.

Sorry, this just pisses me off so much, I needed a mini-rant. The rest of us have to actually work towards a flag and it feels like they're just getting one handed to them so the whole experiment doesn't fail.

Feel free to be pissed off CM. Until the AFL pulls the geographical Riverina from them it want retain any level of consistency.

I'm really hoping when the general public see them take 4 or 5 of the top 25 this draft they'll kick up a fuss. Otherwise the competition is screwed. The lack of outrage so far is depressing.

It's dependent on teams actually bidding on academy players where they should though. I've heard some teams (Essendon for example) didn't even scout them last year.

Surprised there is no mention of Zac Fisher in here. He impressed me more than any other player on the field and has probably been WA's best player in the champs. Now If we could grab him later in the draft like we did with other smaller players...

English is seriously looking like a first round pick.

Either they didn't scout them or there has been some sort of under the table agreement made last trade period regarding non-bidding. Wonder whether Essendon will get a few 'steals' in the trade period this year with GWS.

To take Parish and Francis without bidding on Hopper &/or Kennedy is beyond reproach.

I can't understand how people (not saying you) can't see the difference between how Sydney and GWS work their academies.

Sydney have got two guns in Mills and Heeney who would not have played AFL without the academy. The Heeney for pick 18 thing was a joke, but the AFL fixed that. They both come from Sydney, live in Sydney and play for the academy. These player now cost market value. I'm all sweet with that.

GWS last year got Kennedy and Hopper. Hopper didn't live in Sydney, played his football at one of the better football schools in Victoria (St Pats), played for Ballarat Rebels. He was always going to play AFL, as someone who went to St Pats in 2011 there was hype even about him then. Kennedy didn't even go to the academy, he chose to play with his brothers instead. How the **** do they get the rights to him?

Just a quick look over who GWS have rights to this year, half of them are boarding in Melbourne and playing TAC cup. It's a joke, and it pisses me off that Sydney, Brisbane and GC get put in the same grouping as them. Those three clubs are using the system perfectly, getting kids who would have never played AFL and teaching them the game. GWS are picking kids who have always been on AFL clubs radars, sending them to the best football schools in Victoria and claiming them as their own.

I'd love to know how many hours Kennedy and Hopper spent at their academy compared to Mills and Heeney.

I would consider picking English against Sydney, if he was on our list. IMO Late first round pick.
