Bit of putting two and two together to make five here but it looks like an outside runner is a pretty big priority with Cox>Cumming>Williams being our order of preference.

Amazing how we some how have 2 picks in top 30 we are the kings of the trade period.

Imagine if we can get
Marshall
Cox either small one or 194cm one :-)

Cedric Cox doesn't win the ball, doesn't have elite speed or agility, Brennan Cox has attitude and work rate issues. Not keen on either.

Would you rate Wines or Macrae higher?

Macrae. He's always had a better outside game, but he's been able to develop his inside and defensive game significantly which has put him ahead now IMO. Wines has stagnated.

After reading Quigley's thread, I'm not so keen on Scrimshaw or Battle now. Scrimshaw never really stood out for me and his kicking and contested work has always been an issue, but Quigley's now gotten me uncertain about Battle due to his poor athletic testing at the combine. I don't exactly think Scrimshaw has the discipline to play in the Dogs system, as he doesn't really look to have a defensive game.

I was big Battle fan until I saw his testing a couple weeks ago, I still like him though but I really only see him as solid at best now. Scrimshaw I've always had a few concerns on, but I think he'll still be too enticing to let slip through. I wouldn't be too worried about his defensive game by the way, unless he's a poor character and has no drive (which he isn't a poor character by all reports). Macrae had a terrible defensive game for instance yet turned out alright. And this is what I really like about Cedric Cox too, apparently he's a very driven character and will get the best out of himself.

BF groupthink had David Gourdis a top 20 selection back in the day. He went undrafted.

I'm not sold on any player as a "must have" but there's about 10 I'd like at our first two selections.
I'd be happy with SPP at our second pick TBH and I hope we bid on Macreadie/Sproule/Cumming or even all three.

Macreadie seems to have been 'hidden' a little this year for GWS to get him at a later bid (we can't complain after Lachie Hunter's u18 year).

I can confirm that. I spoke to Macreadie's dad just a few days ago. He said Harrison was put in an all Rugby school and didn't speak a word of AFL to anyone. Apparently he donated 3 footy's on his last week at the school and had to explain to them how to play AFL. His dad thought it was all a bit iffy especially as he didn't get to play a lot of footy compared to the Vic boys and was often played at full back. Although even when he was put at CHB his opponent would always take him back to full back.

The expectation is he'll go later in the draft. Three clubs have met with him at his home and we aren't one of them at least at this stage. Hawthorn, Fremantle and West Coast the teams.

just looking at all the draft talk, getting a massive feeling that 2 of Florent, Berry, Marshall and English will be there at our pick. If English is there could he slip further to our 2nd pick? the reason he would slip to 18 could also be enough for him to slip to our next pick. as i dont see a big need for a ruckman or the time to develop him from the clubs between our picks.

this would be risky but does anyone else have the same feel?

Marshall and English are both just so boom/bust to me. I'd very happily take the punt on both if they were there at our picks and couldnt care which order. Would probably take English first but if Marshall does develop he could be a cracker. The footy world has barely got a decent look at him so no one knows. I think he's divided recruiters into positive thinkers v risk averse... Wouldn't take either if I was recruiting for Richmond but coming off a flag I think they are both worth the crack as upside could be awesome. I love Berry as well. I'm less sold on Florent as I don't see enough star quality to him and I'd much rather take an SPP or something who's a known quality with known flaws. Florent is good but not specially great at anything which would push him to 2nd or 3rd round in my book. I do think someone takes him 1st or 2nd though - just saying I wouldn't. Bloody interesting pick positions we have ended up with. Can't wait to watch what Dal does with them..

There's no way Marshall gets taken over Florent or English at 18. It depends on how highly we rate Florent, but if Norf pass on him at 11 he will absolutely be there at our pick. Feel like English either goes top 10 or slides way down, but I think either Clayton or whoever Freo's recruitment manager is will take the plunge.

No way over English but I could easily see us taking him over Florent.

agree that freo and GC are the dangers to take English, but I just feel that if he is there at 18, he'll be there at 26 for us. that is why i would love florent or Berry to be there at 18 as there would be a fair chance at grabbing both florent/berry and English.

Agree, but don't want us to take Berry. Feel he'll be off the board by mid-first round anyway.

Would not Brisbane be a risk, especially with two picks between our first and second?

Or St Kilda?

I can't see him getting to our second.

would the go home factor be greater for brisbane ? risk developing for 2 years and he wants to leave.

as for the saints i would think they like their ruck stocks, and they are at the point were they want to add players that make an impact in 2017

Both fair points. I just think at some point someone pulls a GC-Wright and just takes him because he's too good to pass up, despite not being a good fit.

Thats the big risk come draft night, judging who the risks are who might take a player, out of the 4 players i mentioned i just see English being the one who could slip furthur.

Willem Drew is a player that if we ended up with our 2nd pick i wouldn't be too upset, to me just seems like the kind of player you want in big finals

Does he do much besides being a good inside mid? Not exactly what we need I reckon. But wouldn't be upset if we took him.

im a big believer in building from our midfield, it then pushes guys like wallis macrae hunter to the wings and flanks, i can even see Bont playing a high CHF role in time (not saying we should, just he could)

it also depends on who we think we can get next year via trade or FA, also with keeping an eye on young west in 2018. if we think we can fill certain areas via trade and FA then it might be something we do.

I like that buckenarra had a different view on some of these guys. Guess who's also had a different view on draftees in recent times. Simon dalrymple.

They're all just kids and there are only small degrees of separation between a lot of them.

The media talk us into thinking a certain way on these guys. I'm always interested in a different perspective.

Yeah absolutely. A little closer to home, Quigley on bigfooty has a unique power rankings, it's refreshing to read.

Warnambool could be a Falcons player, that area is split between the two clubs.
Warrnambool is all Rebels now. Falcons start at Colac thru to Geelong and the Surfcoast.
Rebels is a huge area. Camperdown thru to Portland and to the North to Horsham I think. This will become our zone for academies in the future.
