I'm hoping more for McGrath than sps now.
We need that foot speed off half back more than another Harley bennell, Brad hill in sps which, by all reports we'll be adding to the best 22 in 17.
Ainsworth may be a shock selection. The way he moves screams elite to me, forget that he's played fwd mostly, if he has the tank, he has the tools to create handball opportunities in midfield

I wouldn't mind Ainsworth. He's a perfect ballas replacement and a decent overhead mark for his size. We have a few HBF on our list to trial across there in 2017, but other than Walters and maybe Weller, no real crumbing/small forwards. He could push thru midfield too.

Bennell Tabs Walters
Ainsworth Ape McCarthy
Would be pretty handy.

It'll be hard for the recruiters to stuff up pick 3! McLuggage, McGrath, SPS, Ainsworth, Brodie, Taranto - anyone would do. Not long now - it's like waiting to unwrap those new Xmas presents

GWS will trade for pick 1 and then select McGrath.

If we don't pick 3 then we need to decide between McCluggage, Brodie, Bowes*(Will be picked up by) and SPS.

After watching Fridays under 18s game I am really interested in Taranto. He seems to have rocketed up the draft order of late with some big big performances. He is 188cm and over 80kg already. He is a goal kicking midfielder who can also push forward and be effective. If we got him we would have a big and flexible midfield with players that can swing forward and hit the scoreboard. I worry about SPS as he hasnt had a great year, which makes me think have others caught up to and gone past him or has he just had a bad year?

Anybody else feel like we will take Taranto at pick 3. Looking at his build and the way he plays I think he would slot in nicely.

I'd personally prefer Ainsworth. Small forwards who are that strong overhead and can push into the middle are priceless. To me he looks like Ballas at his best with better marking and accuracy of kick.

Suggest people watch Taranto more closely. He is all one direction ;) Love his finishing but don't rate the rest of his game that much. Ainsworth is a better option if we wanted a goal scoring forward.

Also, he just has wayyyy too much FIGJAM about him for mine. His swagger after getting gifted shots in space on the back of the hard work of others was seriously worth a punch in the dick.

Nothing wrong with finding the ball and finishing well and going by his TAC numbers he does it consistently. He seems to move like he's in 3rd gear and I can see lots of improvement in him. He's got a bit of young Fyfe about him but that said I wouldn't pick him in front of SPS.

Edit* Taranto averages 12.8 contested possessions a game and that ranks him 5th in the comp. So I don't think he's that much of a seagull at all

And I thought we needed more key position players? Any calls on them?

I like Josh Battle. He is not very tall, so he could develop into a Jack Darling without the missing ticker. Good kick, has great moments (eg a flurry of goals in a few minutes against WA) and can run all day.
He could still be there at the beginning of the second round.

I also like the extra size in the midfield as well. You just have to look at the size of the Bulldogs midfield they are a bunch of big lads in there. We already have Neale, Langdon and Weller as the smaller mids and we only really have Fyfe and Blakely as our bigger mids, considering we used to have a midfield that consisted of Fyfe, Mundy, Barlow with Pav even sometimes going through there. I also think that Mundy will probably spend more and mroe time on the HBF next season, similar to Mathew Boyd from the Bulldogs.

We'll be taking midfielders and HBF's in the draft whilst picking up talls via trade or free agency (Kersten, McCarthy, Hamling, etc..). We have the depth to allow for development of midfielders/small forwards/hbfs in the Peel side.

Hamling is out of the picture, according to him.

I think if we are trading for McCarthy and possibly also Kersten (and certainly if Hogan makes a decision this week and we find a way to get him) then I doubt we'll need to look at another KPF this draft period. The best KPD prospects are likely to go from mid first (eg Rotham, Scrimshaw and Logue) through to end of second and possibly early third.

I think it's important to note that there are some good tall prospects (probably more so than this year) for the 2017 draft including a couple of South Australians in Callum Coleman-Jones (199cm mobile ruck/KPF who is possibly the English for next year's draft) and Nathan Kreuger (195cm who has a way to go but could become a great intercepting and rebounding defender). Darcy Fogarty is another from SA worth a look (190cm utility who was probably BOG in the u17s GF curtain raiser).

Jarrod Brander (195cm possible #1 draft pick) looks a gun and GWS might not get dibs on him but he's likely to go very early in the draft regardless. Connor Ballenden (198cm) is probably the next best KPF prospect at this stage but he is a Brisbane academy player. Sam Hayes (200cm) seems an ok big full forward type (was AA as a bottom ager) but needs to improve his mobility. Cody Henness (192cm) is another who can kick goals.

Ryan Garthwaite (192cm) is a good KPD prospect along with our own Peel-boy Aaron Naughton (192cm).

I think we can go in to this trade and draft period confident that if we don't pick up too many talls, we should have some good options to pick from in next year's draft.

I would like to see us take one of McCluggage,McGrath,Taranto or to a lesser extent SPS. But more than anything i just want us to use that pick and not trade it away for multiple lower picks or in any trade scenarios (unless its for Hogan). Its been too long since we had some genuine Elite top 5 talent walk through the door. I also thing giving up a pick inside 30 is paying overs for hill, Happy to take him but think somewhere 30-39 is fair market price. would be very dissapointed if we hand over pick 22 for him as some reports are suggesting we will.
