Too many of our guys seem naturally timid and nervous.

Sheppard, Gaff, .... you can't really imagine them ever standing up under huge pressure and doing something heroic. They all have this jittery deer-in-headlights vibe about them. Compare them to their counterparts at the really successful clubs, and you just lose confidence. You just knew Sheppard was never going to kick that goal.

You can add a few more to that list - Cripps, Le Cras, Masten, Hurn, Schofield, Jetta... like, they all have strengths and talent, and they're not squibs, but they don't seem to be the warrior that will stand up, really assert themselves, and you need those guys to win a flag.

Wellingham is a perfect example of what we need more of.

In summary, we do not have players that are capable of being match winners when things get hard.

It was really noticeable in Gaff today. So many times he was almost walking and watching the play happen in front of him. Not sure if its because he runs so hard he has no energy left or what.

Yeah that's the tldr version.

It's not a talent thing either, it's all attitude/mindset

I mean you look at Jack Martin at GCS - lightest bloke in the competition, but you know he's going to be a match winner, and not through being a seagull.

I think it is a talent thing but only from a depth perspective. We need to have a far better rotation with more capable mids than we do now.

Yeah definitely. Recruitment decisions have been poor (sponsors hat off, we really should have taken Blakely)

Lecras - weak as piss at the contest. Unless he gets the ball in space you might as well give up on him.

Butler - stick a fork in him.

Cripps - downhill skier. Nowhere to be found when we are up against it.

Sheppard - hate to say it, but been terrible this season. Woefully out of form and needs a spell in the WAFL.

Butler took a few marks under pressure and generally I thought he wasn't bad. Not brilliant, but he never really is. I agree that Lecca has had a horrendous start to the season. You need more pace in a small forward now, and he ain't got it. The midfield prowess he demonstrated last year as the "spitter" has eluded him so far in 2016.

The Gov perhaps, Duggans disposal was rubbish couldn't lay a tackle. Overran the ball multiple times.

Apologies for my directness, but this is utter crap.

Yeo, Redden, Duggan, Jetta. Just not doing enough. Today we needed a 25-30 disposal, 10 mark game from a link midfielder. No one stood up.

Defence not working quite right with Mackenzie back in the team.

We've got Mackenzie, McGovern, Schofield, Sheppard, Hurn, Butler, Wellingham all in. I'm not convinced we can carry all 7.

Darling staging for free's or over running the contest is really starting to shit me. When the going gets tough, Darling makes this over the top, piss weak attempts at marking then throws himself at an attempt to get a free. He really is a confidence player, and his form needs week on week management...

Agree. Darling's a consummate flat track bully. Stellar performer at Subi, goes missing in pressure away games.

Disagree with Butler and Shep. Shep hasn't been at his best, but still doing some very good things. Crippa is in poor form atm. Lecras needs a stint in the WAFL or be a full time fwd pocket.

He dropped one chest mark in the middle.
The problem was he didn't chest mark it. He tried to grab it in his hands (obviously to move it on quickly) but in those conditions a chest mark would've been the way to go.

That may be true, but if it is, that problem is certainly not going to be rectified this year. You're not going to bring in someone like Tom Cole or Corey Adamson and have them be match winners in their first seasons.

We had our excuses today and I`m willing to just forgive and forget that we played today ,Still pissed we lost but I`m ok with it.

I felt the same way after the r2 loss. Then we do this. While we didn't suck as much as we did against the Hawks there was still a significant amount of sucking. Hopefully we are on a trend of sucking less.

After we smash the Pies next week we have yet another chance to prove ourselves against Geelong. Anyone want to bet on 3rd time lucky?
