ROUND 17 - 19:20 AEST, JUL 14, 2016
SYDNEY SWANS
In: B.McGlynn
Out: J.Rose
HAWTHORN
In: B.Whitecross, A.Litherland, J.O'Rourke
Out: L.Shiels (hamstring), B.Hartung, D.Howe (calf)
----------------------------------------
Where are the Hawks at?
There’s been some talk about the “Hawthorn dynasty” finally coming to an end this year, with Luke Hodge’s blood alcohol content sitting at an unhealthy 120.1%, well down on previous seasons.
Where are the Swans at?
After a couple of wet games leading into the bye, a loss at home to Footscray had some concerned that it would be reigning cats and dogs in consecutive weeks. This fear was dispelled in emphatic style as the Swans became the first team to beat Geelong at Kardinia Park this season.

Recent History
The teams met at the MCG in round 9 this year, which resulted in a 14 point win to the Swans. Amazingly, to date Sydney remain the only non-Victorian team to beat the Hawks at the MCG since the Crows did back in 2009. Adding further spice to the mix, the Swans unknowingly prevented Hawthorn's first attempt at a fourpeat back in 2012, and will be looking to do the same this year.
Oh, and by the way, there's also the fact that the winner of this game will also ascend to the top of the H&A ladder - has there ever been a bigger Thursday night game?!
Key Match Ups
Mitchell on Mitchell
Some point to Tom Mitchell's Round 9 effort as the moment that he began to show us his true potential, with the son of a gun proving that he was more than just a stat magnet by completely nullifying Sam Mitchell. Tom held Sam to just 15 touches (and more importantly, only 5 kicks), whilst accumulating 21 disposals himself. A repeat performance will go a long way to ensuring victory for the mighty Red and White this Thursday night.
Swans' Rebound vs Hawks' Defensive Forwards
In direct opposition to many pre-season predictions, the Swans' premiership hopes this year are being driven by the best defence in the game, with Grundy as reliable as ever down back, Rampe in AA form, and exciting prospects Aliir Aliir, Zak Jones and Callum Mills playing well above their respective experience levels.
Interestingly, however, in addition to giving up the least points in the AFL, the Swans are also number two in the league for points launched from half back ( credit: http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/a...s/news-story/73a5eaf59ae10c1f8113e11f50d24208 )
Although they are missing the impact of influential big man Jarrod Roughead, the Hawks still possess one of the best forward combinations in the AFL, with a key feature of their game being the speed and forward pressure applied by Rioli, Puopolo, Bruest, and Gunston.
