I will also look at depth later, as that is also an important factor when covering injuries.

I like what you've done and I think we'll be a much more balanced side next year.

In addition I'd play Sloane in the centre square as his new primary role. To cover Danger, my primary centre square trio would be Sloane, B.Crouch, Thompson with the next 3 being Douglas, CEY, M.Crouch.

Sloane & B.Crouch (fit) would go a long way to covering for Danger. Sloane has been forced to play on the wing as we've had crap outside players. But with the addition of Seedsman, Hampton & Menzel we'll be able to restructure Sloane's position.

One of the problems with our midfield is that M.Crouch & CEY can only really play inside mid. They'll need to add that to their game. I can see CEY rotating between wing & half back as well as inside mid.

With interchange rotations capped, our mids will need to stay on the ground for longer and rest up forward or in defense. Obviously that means players in our forward line and defense will need to rotate through the midfield as they rest. These guys will be Menzel, Betts, Smith, Laird having short bursts in the centre square. I think the first 3 add a new dynamic and spark to the centre square anyway.

Plus there's pick 9 & 13 to add too. If we get Francis at 9, I think he can play across half back next year.

We've already added Menzel who could potentially slot into our top 10 as could pick 9 & 13 (eventually) if that goes to plan. But we've certainly added to our 15-25 which pushes our depth out to about 30-32 IMO.

I read a predicted draft that had us selecting at 13 and 17 after the bidding for academy players. Surely that's not likely.

Yeah that's once the academy players are included. Take them out, which we don't really have access to, and we'll still having pick 9 & 13 (live picks). But it will say 13 & 17 or whatever it ends up being. Just ignore the pick number. We still have 9 & 13. Purely looking at live picks, 13 will actually end up being pick 12.

Hi Guys, I'm a first time poster, but I have been reading the forum for the last year with avid interest. In regards to our 2016 team, Pyke's first big test will be to omit VB, Hendo and Mckay from the side. We have persisted with these sub-standard players for too long. Hampton, Menzel and Seedsman all have elite skills and hopefully all play in Round 1.

I think you'll fit in fine

Welcome to big footy. I agree with you 100%, I hope Pyke agrees too. If Hampton, Menzel & Seedsman get really fit over summer I think they will force their way straight into the 22.

Welcome.

I think you'll fit in fine

Thanks.

I think we have recruited players with speed and good foot skills, which has been a glaring deficiency. The Dangerfield deal was not ideal, but this gives a Cam Ellis-Yolmen the opportunity he’s been craving. A fit Brad Crouch will be instrumental in whether we play finals next year. Both these boys are a good size and perfect replacements for Danger and Thompson going forward.

Our defence is a work in progress given our youth. Kelly and Lever need a few more pre-seasons to bulk up, but they are showing already they will be key players for us.

I think our list is building nicely. Another key forward and back up ruckman are crucial for us in the event Tex or Sauce go down.

I’m optimistic about our club.

I saw this and thought it was a pointless exercise because its purely opinion, guess work and the most extreme form of crystal balling.

Then I saw Mackay and VB get 5/10 yet Hartigan only gets 6/10. And you don't expect him to improve like he did steadily for the whole back half of the season? What folly is this?

You can fudge the numbers all you like. We did not improve our best 22 by replacing Danger with Hampton, Menzel, Seedsman and Gore.

At this stage we still have the same issues as we did entering 2015 - mostly being a lack of a 2nd key position defender and ruck support for Jacobs.

Lots of work still to be done. Lets hope that we draft wisely with 9 and 13.

What about improving our side with Danger and Mackay out and Hampton, Menzel, Seedsman and Gore?

The ever improving Mackay?

Not sure if you are aware - but after 8 years in the system he finally got his first brownlow votes in 2015. Watch out 2016 where he will be in Pykes best 22.

And here I thought you went quiet when he didn't earn his second vote

Hartigan was a player I considered a 1 point improvement. If fine-tuned & using half points, then it would probably work.

However, the intention of this thread is just to look at things a different way - sure it is opinion & crystal balling, but isn't that what this board is about - particularly in off season.

If you think you can do better, go for it :)

Sloane should be moved from the wing to in the guts to pick up some of the slack from Danger. We've brought outside runners in.

I'd also have Smith in the guts

I think with a fit Brad crouch we've improved substantially across the ground. Without crouch and provided Mackay and vb don't play i still think we've made an improvement. Danger here or not I'm still optimistic about our young list

Guess that is where I disagree - but it is all opinion.

IMO, B Crouch + Ellis-Yomen + Menzel + Knight + Seedman + Hampton > Dangerfield + Van Berlo + Wright + Lyons + Mackay + Henderson

Sure, we lose one of the elite players of the competition, but we improve the bottom end of our best-22 & IMO have a speedier/better balanced line-up.

Time will tell...

I would like to see the likes of Smith, Sloane & Douglas rotated through the guts/wing/flanks to keep them fresh. Hawks do it so well.

The player output ratings are pretty pointless but I do think we have a better team than last year. Better speed, better skills and more mature, overall a better balance of inside and outside.

So player output is pointless, but we have a better team.

Go figure! ;)

I don't think I'll be able to barrack for us anymore if another coach picks VB and D-Mac
Maybe if yet another coach picks them ......maybe just maybe by weight of coach numbers you're wrong about them
