There's a great story brewing.

The Kubler train just keeps chugging along in his new-found Hard Court Adventure. A finalist in 2 consecutive Futures and now as a qualifier he just got over Brad Mousley to make his 1st Challenger SF in almost 3 yrs.

I was bored on my way home from work so I had a go at predicting the AO wildcards based on current rankings. I am not sure what the status of injuries are or who has access to a protected ranking.

MD Direct entry - Kyrgios, Thompson

MD Wildcards (4 discretionary plus playoff winner - Kokkinakis, De Minaur, Popyrin, Ebden (highest ranked to miss)

Qualifying Direct Entry - Ebden (if no MD WC), Tomic, Santillan, De Minaur (if no MD WC), Millman, Patrick-Smith, Kokkinakis (if no MD WC), Duckworth (if fit)

Qualifying Wildcards (7 Discretionary) - Groth, Kubler, Purcell, O'Connell, Polmans, Bolt, Jasika,

Missed Out - Mousley, Whittington, Kelly, Banes, Saville, Matosevic, Ellis, Bouchier, Grills

I'm pretty sure Millman will get into the main draw with his protected ranking. Not sure about Kokkinakis. I reckon Groth will get a MD WC.

Is there anywhere in particular u can watch these matches

I have been watching them via my betting account but you can watch most Challenger matches via the ATP website for free, no registration or anything. Just go to tournaments, select ATP Challenger Tour and on that screen it will show you the live Challenger matches available to view (depending on timing there is often at least two available).

Edit: Bolt v Banes in the Traralgon Challenger being shown live now.

Thanks I'm at work today but I'll keep this in mind for future reference.

Tomic lost again. Served underarm at 5-5 40-0 if i read it correctly. Not the end of the world as some papers are claiming. probably just a stupid idea.

Will be so good watching him try and qualify for tournaments here next summer. I cant see any giving him anything.
I hear Bernard is changing his name to Trevor.......

Another tennis player who plays for money:

Australia's next tennis star Destanee Aiava has echoed controversial men's player Bernard Tomic and bluntly admitted she only plays the game for money.

Aiava burst onto the scene as a 16-year-old at the Brisbane International earlier this year when she became the first player born in the 2000s to win a WTA main draw match.

Aiava is the only provider for her family and said after three years living out of a suitcase the sport isn't as fun anymore, admitting she only still plays for the money.

"I was one of those kids where our house was like a cabin, so I'm kind of used to that poor lifestyle and I just want that lavish lifestyle," Aiava said.

"Money is the motivation, obviously everyone wants a better lifestyle for their future and money definitely helps that a lot.

"I can't lie anymore, I'm done with that, honesty is the best policy. It's the light at the end of the tunnel and I just want it, as soon as I have enough money I'll stop playing."

Just looking at the comments at the end of that article, "Good on you...", "A bit like us all really.", "Most of us only work for money.", "Can't blame her for wanting the money...", "Good on her.", "There’s nothing wrong with admitting to playing sport for the money", "Well, why not.", "Kudos to her."

I'm sure they said the same things when Tomic said he only plays for the money

Exactly, different story if Tomic or Nick K make a similar statement.

Well, why not. If you have a talent why not make the most of it. Isn't that what people do.?

People want sports stars to be more honest and real and off script. Kudos to her. As usual let us watch the hate begin.

I don't have a real problem with the attitude as long as she gives her best. Having said that she didn't need to go public. These comments will cost her.

The difference between her and Tomic / Kyrgios is she doesn't have the money in the bank yet.

It's funny, I got a bit of a weird vibe from her whenever I heard her interviewed about her tennis but just put it down to immaturity, now I know why. I find this kind of sad, obviously pushed into it by her parents and to be the breadwinner for her family for the last three years and she's only 18 or thereabouts, well that's not right IMO.

Yeah, I know it happens in society out of necessity but if you are a teenager you should be enjoying yourself and not trying to get financial security.

The irony is from a money making point of view if she is good enough like Kyrgios it won't matter but with Dasha, Cabrera and Barty it is a crowded Australian womans market and publically stating this attitude could cost her media focus and endorsements.

Tennis is an insanely physically and mentally demanding sport that requires intense levels of training from a young age and the number of people that make a decent living off it at the professional level is tiny. I absolutely love the sport and have done so for 20 years. But I recognise the struggle to make it and can empathise with people like tomic and aiava.

How many of the great tennis players go on and have kids themselves, who also become great tennis players? Hardly any and that says a lot I think.
