I see Knightmare has us taking Brayshaw and Stephenson. FMD these campaigners are starting to get my hopes up!

I've actualy been saying the same thing for the last 4 weeks and I haven't wavered - give me two of Cerra, Brayshaw, Coffield, Stephenson and I added Clark to that as well although he is 5th in line.

We need mids and as such any 2 of the first three I would be happy with. I think Brayshaw goes to Freo at 5 so Cerra and Coffield come on down!

Based on current vibe, it seems very unlikely that Brayshaw will get through. If he's there though we would jump on him for sure.

I like the look of Clark too.

I’m of the view that if the Lions pass on Brayshaw at #1 then he’s a very good chance of being available at our picks. I think the talk of Brisbane picking him has improved his value in the media when his true value is about 6-10. I honestly don’t see how he can be compared to LDU, Cerra, Dow & Rayner when he’s more in the Clark & Higgins range. There’s definitely a talent gap between the first few & Brayshaw imo.

I can’t understand the Hunter Clark talk. As far as needs go, he’s an inside mid that misses too many targets by foot. Don’t we have plenty of those guys?

Pretty sure he’s an above average quality kick and definitely not just an inside mid. Pretty quick and can play HB and on the outside.

Of course, I understand all that, I've been following the drafts closely for over 20 years, but for every one of those you mentioned there are probably 3 or 5 or 20 Josh Saunders, who we wondered how we could get so lucky to have landed in the 40's after seeing his highlights vids, where he was slicing teams up with his run and hitting up targets.

Only to get him and realise, oh, OK, this is why he he didn't go earlier, because he's scrappy as all hell.

Or thinking how lucky we were to have gotten Acres who was being described by some as an "elite kick" prior to his draft. Only to find that he was a fair way from it.

There has to something missing with Hunter or he would simply be in the same mix with all the others who play a similar role and who played at a similarly very high level. Clubs spend thousands of man hours on this stuff, they don't just miss these things.

The way it works is that the ones who go highest are the ones with the least holes or who are seen to have the highest upside, so with Hunter there has to be a hole.

It doesn't mean he won't or can't be the next Sloane or Lenny, it just means he's seen as less certain to be than the other 5, because there is something in or missing in his game that makes him less certain in their expert eyes.

Something that some who have become so caught up in him that they seem to believe he's perfect and has no flaws are unwilling or unable to acknowledge. That's the only issue I have.

It doesn't mean that I don't like him or want him, but I'm just not buying this "he's perfect in every way" thing, because if he was he'd be in the mix for pick 1 in this draft that's not the best.

Could it be his shift away from the midfield in the champs when he was put behind the ball that diminished his star somewhat. Or maybe he struggled physically with niggle. Or maybe some of the bodies around him grew and/or matured quicker so as to suggest that Hunters impact in the big leagues will not be what was expected.

But as Twomey’s tweet from early 2016 suggests, he’s always been in the conversation.

I like Hunter because he can dispose by foot from congestion. Gets himself into good position to find the pill, sees players in space very early, and gets foot to ball turbo quick for the short pass and mark. High footy IQ. Gut runner. Fearless in the tackle. Stays on his feet. Can step, spin, dummy with the best of them. Fast safe hands, and a good handballer. His one knock has to be his size and his ability to fill out and impact the contest and or tackle at the highest level. EDIT: Possibly a comparative lack of explosive pace.

Best of the rest once you take LDU, Dow, Cerra and Rayner off the table.

Sam hamburger reporting that Stephenson is a big chance to slide all the way to richmonds first pick and has us taking Clark and bonar at 7 and 8. If Stephenson heart gets the all clear surely there is no way we let him past our picks. What's people's thoughts on a Clark Stephenson combo?

Pretty sure he’s an above average quality kick and definitely not just an inside mid. Pretty quick and can play HB and on the outside.

His kicking efficiency was 58% this year in the TAC Cup.

I realise he can play a number of positions, but he played by far his best footy as an inside mid.

I’ve been on the Bonar train since the beginning, I don’t know why, just gut feeling that he’ll be really special. But If Stepho slides to our picks then I’d be conflicted, surely we wouldn’t take two high risk players.

So I question, is Bonar with his missing two years and thin slice of displayed ability more or less of a risk than Stephenson’s potential heart issue and light frame?

Bonar on the plus side did a lot of PT and Gymnastics when he couldn’t play footy to keep himself in great shape, so his character seems to be a big plus.

If Brayshaw doesn’t go pick 1 then Freo may be in the enviable position of choosing b/w Cerra & Brayshaw at 5. If Freo pick Cerra & as rumoured the pies pick Fogerty then Brayshaw is still on the board. That will also depend on what North do though. Do they take Stephenson at 4? They’ve been rumoured to for the past 3 months.

I’m not the biggest advocate on this forum, but I’m not worried about his size at all. Looks like he could be quite a powerful guy by the end. Reasonable height, wide shoulders.

A few questions raised on here about Clark’s negatives and things he can improve on. While his kicking on both kicks are quite good the fact is that under pressure he is extremely inconsistent and can turn in over often( which is a current problem for us) However he had been playing half back flank most of last year and start of this year and transitioned to the midfield 2nd half of the year where he was more around contest so you can expect someone with little experience in the centre of midfield to be inconsistent under pressure. Give him a few season to get used to it in the mid and he will find his feet as if he can find his way under pressure , he has a very good natural kick. Also , if the rumours are true that we will look to play him in/out mid then you can’t use his disposal efficiency as he will have more space and time on the outside, so I’d expect efficiency to go up. Other questions remain over his size and whether he is set to play inside mid but he has good height and after a few preseasons will be ready so no problem. Could very well end up another Bont considering his balanced game and his unique combination of decision making and skill and his toughness. Also a times composure looks outstanding when he isn’t on the centre getting the ball out so would be over the moon if we grab him. Just pair him with one of fogs or bonar(which ever is more likely to be the next nat Fyfe) and we are set!

Also many recent rumours from various sources on and off bigfooty saying north aren’t going to select Stephenson as he ain’t in there top 4 anymore. Almost certain he slides to our pick now. Thoughts?

Stephenson will play in year one in my opinion, unless he goes to Ross Lyon, who historically doesn’t bring players on as quickly. Could play a role like Taranto in the forward line for us for sure.

If we get Clark and Stephenson we have nailed the draft i reckon. One pacey explosive mid forward who loves a tackle as much as a goal, and one outside mid who defends well and can go inside if required on any given day.

I will cry like a bitch if we pass on Cerra. **** me, surely Cerra and Brayshaw don’t make it to our pick though?

It will be nice if Collingwood can keep their dirty hands off Cerra. He is amongst the few , one - touch players in the draft.

Clark & Bonar/Coffield is the scenario at this stage

Cerra can still get to us if word is North have gone cold on him as they looked the biggest threat. Freo also could grab him unless they see him as a flight risk and unsure if pies would take him if they are looking at others.

Maybe North take Brayshaw or Dow and Freo go the D Fog or Naughton with #5 if they dont want two mids, then pies will look at Coff, Cerra and Murphy. D fog has to come into top 6 contention for us to get Cerra i reckon.

Who knows! This has to be the hardest draft to predict that i can think of.
