Raynar looks a talent, will be a midfielder who can hurt resting forward. Cross BTW Matthews and Kerr.

But I still like Fogarty. Real bull and can play anywhere - HB, C, HF. And height at 192cm is an added bonus. Quality Utility types are worth their weight in gold these days.

Stephenson looks more like a forward to me and seems slightly built whereas I think we need kids who can step in sooner than later given we are still down the bottom.

Perhaps not the right forum and apologies to the Mods if not, but what're people's thoughts on us getting a PP assuming we finish this low?

If it happened, we could potentially all of a sudden have 2 x 2nd round picks: 1 x 3rd tier FA compo (Casboult) and 1 x PP e.g. Pick 20, 21

Then we could look at trading that to GWS if they do let go of Kelly to North (pick ~8 and then some).

Picks 21, 22 = 1723 points for Pick 8 = 1551 points.

We hit the draft with another 2 x Top 10 picks = SOS happy.

Or am I just dreaming?

I think even though ladder wise we look like going backwards I think everyone including the AFL know we are stockpiling a good young list. Thus doubt we will get a PP. In saying that Dees got one and turned it around soon after so we could argue that.

Having a quick look at the top prospects and Rayner has me sold at the moment, seems to fit our "type" the closest for mine.

Goes inside when he needs, quick without being super fast, strong, good natural looking kick, leap and good goal sense.

Seems the full package, not as athletically gifted as Fogarty but seems to have a lot more hurt factor when he has the ball.

However, I am basing these off stats and a few youtube videos so take it with a grain of salt.

I don't know what that means.

How am I suggesting we take the 18th ranked player. Who is he and how can he be ranked 18th?

I thought I made it clear that I just looked at profiles. I have seen some limited footage also, but that's about it.

Sorry, i am just referring to Knigghtmares ranking of draft prospects, where Stephenson was 16th on the list, with a May ranking of 10th. He mentioned he has a lot of holes in is game and i was just wondering why Stephenson was top of your list?

Jaidyn Stephenson
Half-forward
Eastern Ranges/Vic Metro
189cm/76kg
15/1/99

Having already starred for two years at TAC Cup level, recruiters were well aware of Stephenson's elite talent before this season. The mercurial half-forward can produce 'wow' moments on a regular basis: he has electric leg speed, brilliant spring he uses to take big marks, and an uncanny goal sense. He's unlike any player in this year's pool and it's hard to find anyone like him full stop. He has spent more time in the midfield this season, and gathered 26 disposals and seven tackles for the Ranges on the weekend. The national carnival is a good stage for Stephenson to highlight his wares.

As I said, the profile is appealing.
This is the 'sort' player that fits a bill.......not so much Balic or Lennon.

Knightmare doesn't rate Stephenson, but Chris25 (https://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/young-talent-time-2017.1161935/) has him at 1. He is not afraid to have his own opinion and one of the more interesting draft watchers.

This is one year where lots could change. It will be interesting to see how it all plays out

I like his views on football and how he sees talent, just can't see why he would rate a kid at No.1, when he is a third tall forward, with no midfielder exposure. At this stage I would have him just outside the top 12. I think this year more than ever, the top 10 will constantly change as well as many seeing it completely different.

As a recruiter, this year will be a fine line between success and failure.

Didn't Rayner record an 11 beep test (or close to?). That's very poor for a prospective AFL player.

Just did some work on the Google machine. From AFLDraftCentral:

For the moment he is a forward first, midfielder second with his endurance being a work in progress – running an 11.10 beep test at TAC Cup testing and it will be an area that needs to be addressed for him to move into the midfield long term.

Ehhhhhhh, would want to show a marked improvement IMO.

Yep defo negative

Darcy it is then

Jesus. I ran a 12.2 as a 15yo kid way back when, and I'd be lucky to go up to Rayner's shoulders.

On reflection, I guess I could run but couldn't actually play footy. If I was a decade younger, Wayne Hughes might have drafted me...

I'm actually starting to cool on Darcy. Reason being, he is 192cm and will probably grow a bit more by next year. We can have too many 193cm+ players, we will most likely end up being too top heavy.

LDU or Rayner (of all weaknesses, endurance might be the easiest one to resolve). Stephenson is a #5-#10 player atm for me.

LDU, whilst being a bit vanilla perhaps, still seems to tick all the boxes. Biggest tick being a potentially elite left footer. Bolts and SOS seem to love that trait.

Ala The Dominator, we all love that trait. Few and far between at CFC. Shane Robertson and Scott Freeborn still held dear and neither elite, just lefties.

Well one of Darcy Fogarty or J Stephenson is gone then, the lions are stacked with quality KPP and have another in this years academy.
Maybe, but I read where they are after Cockatoo from the Cats, so they may be looking at fast ball carriers & not an inside mid so much.....But?

Don't agree. Cripps wasn't the beast he is now at the champs. Also don't think Fogarty has the same ability to find the ball. Will be interesting to see how he goes in coming weeks, but as an in between height I think he will slide.
Fogarty won`t slide unless you mean from pick 1 to pick 3 because he is only getting more raves as the year goes on....plus he can play up forward, so him being bigger is a plus as forwards go.......if he is there at "our" pick SOS would have to consider him, but once again it depends on what he thinks we need more......a solid mid/forward or a fast guy who can kick goals like Stephenson...........Cripps must have had some beast about him, because Carlton did not choose him for his pace exactly, but he kept finding the ball and this is what Fogarty is like.......an extractor of the pill.

Can play HB/CHB too.
His versatility and strength and height appeals immensely.

192 is the new 188.

200 is the new 194.

Don't agree about too heavy. It's not like we have five 200s in the top 22.

The concern ought not be about height per se but more relating to pace. Or lack thereof.

Darcy I'm not sure is quick so that's the concern if anything.

Look Cripps needs help esp if BG leaves. Darcy is a big bodied bull.

And recruit players with dash elsewhere.

Need a mix on Inside and Outside.

We are rebuilding and have plenty of holes and depth to fill so we are not in a position to say Darcy doesn't suit our needs lol

Others have linkened Fog to Jake Stringer - not quite KPP, not quite full time midfielder. From memory, Jake went pick 5.
