Seems like the Dockers would find it hard not to select him with their first rounder, or at I think they should

IMO they reached for Griffen Logue @ pick 8 last year, they passed on some pretty good players like Brodie, Florent, Simpkin, Marshall, Hayward and Logue isn't really even a true KPD, couldnt have just be because he was a WA kid, as they also passed other local talent in SPP and English.

They were seduced by his combine results.

They probably see Logue as that hybrid type player, that could play as a big body mid in time, I still rate him highly.

IMO their current weakness is KPP's. Given they don't have a 2nd rounder, Naughton is the quality they need early, that could change depending what they do during the trade period. Brander is another they should consider

Sydney were going to take him

Whatever happened to simply 'best available'? :)

This is exactly what often comes about, in that clubs somehow find the best available that suits their needs best.
Not always, but often and even with pick #1's. Was McCartin best available or maybe just suited needs a little more than Petracca?

"SAM WALSH | GEELONG FALCONS | MID | 02/07/2000 | 182CM | 68KG
There is little wonder as to why Sam Walsh is considered one of the very best prospects of the 2018 crop. He tore the game to shreds, collecting 37 disposals of which 19 were contested with 10 clearances to boot. He is a genuinely all-round midfielder, possessing equally impressive traits on the inside and out. In traffic he has poise and can produce a stylish turn to get into space, but on the outside he just knows where to run and makes great decisions with ball in hand. His best highlight came in the second half when he faked a direction change, before calmly sidestepping the other way to set up a teammate running into goal. The Falcons have an elite one on their hands here."

Has enormous upside and anyone looking for someone who has got the potential to grow into a No.1 Draft Pick then this is the kid to follow. Yes I do mean potentially ahead of Lukosius, the King Brothers, Hill & Rankine....you did read that right.

He looks amazing. Seems to have everything going for him.

Was about to ask how old this was, then can see from the timestamp that it's 2016 highlights. So this was after the initial surgery, but before the corrective procedure?

If so, impressive.

Think I said, or at least suggested, "Clear standout best available". If 2 players a rated similar, (on SOS's hit list) then you select the one more for team balance and needs.

If a player is rated a clear standout, you select him aka Macreadie ;)

I see Ainsworth as being a sure bet to be a very good player. Just does everything too well; lovely kick, terrific mark and top notch goal nous.

Rayner is less of a sure bet, but has the size, skills, athleticism and goal nous to possibly be one of the top few players in the competition.

Not a clear cut answer. Ainsworth will be a heck of a player

..........if he gets out of GC

No doubt, but still has question marks on whether he can spend quality time through the midfield just like Rayner.

If you view them both just on small/medium power forward, Rayner wins hands down, for me anyway

Where did ainsworth come from?

Just to see what posters think and even though they're not the same player they do have similarities.

Ainsworth was at times spoken about as being the best of the draft last year and was ultimately taken at pick #4.

Rayner may well travel a similar path should things largely remain as are, with the draft order.

Is Rayner seen as the best player in this draft by most? If so - are we relying on both Brisbane and GC passing him up to being a flight risk? Didnt GC pick Brodie who was from Vic just last year?
