I'd expect as much after having his leg in brace for well over 12 months, but imagine the impact a fit Roughsedge would have.
There's definitely scope for improvement, but what's his pace off the mark and side step like when fit?

Where was he positioned in the 2016 draft before he went down?

This is only pure speculation Jimmae. Only played the first game before injury struck, but had 39 disposals of which 52.6% were contested, 17 kicks, 22 handballs, 4 marks, 8 tackles, KE of 82.4% & DE of 82.1%. Lets say he averaged 35 disposals a game for the whole season at an efficiency of 75%, where do you think he would've been drafted at??? He'd have been right up there with McGrath & Taranto I would've thought. Top 10.

Everyone at the Chargers were devastated when he went down as they believed they had a pretty special talent on their hands. To have been out for so long and so out of condition yet come back to knocking out Cerra/LDU/Dow/Constable/Brayshaw-like numbers straight away should be a pretty good indicator. You'd need to do your due diligence with the medical though.

Edit: Pace off the mark I can't honestly remember, but pace generally is average. Not as fast as Dow or Brayshaw, but quicker than Constable if that makes sense.

Given 2016 was going to be his draft year, he reads like Perryman then?

Roughsedge is more inside than a Perryman

At 186 & 88, is AFL ready, with a few preseasons under his belt, will only get better

Was Oakleigh's captain last year and not just because of the way he plays the game, highly regarded by his peers

Realistically, most clubs would be weary, so generally I would say he is a later pick, but in this draft a 3rd or 4th rounder would be a steal

Alternatively, where do we see Tim Kelly, Bonar and Dom Barry being available?

I assume Barry will go after 50, Kelly after 30, and Bonar after 15, but how high will they push towards each ceiling?

I also think Patmore will go in the second round.

If we got all four plus Roughsedge, I honestly think it would go a long way to upping our midfield stocks and fortunes. Roughsedge aside, there's a lot of utility there.

This is how we transform the list this off-season IMO.

As Arr0w said, he's more of an inside player. The thing I like about him is, that like Cerra, he brings others into the game with his excellent disposal by hand or foot. Is someone who has real "presence" out on the field and commands the ball. Has AFL quality written all over him.

On the other hand I have little knowledge about Bonar other than what I've read here and there so its always good to have a discussion with someone else who knows players I don't.

I can't see SOS & Brodie going after both Roughsedge & Bonar tbh. There's taking a punt and then there's dicing with death. Think that taking both might just be a risk too far. It is a thin draft though and we still have a lot of junk on our list.

If we only have our current picks, I don't see it either, so I'm banking on us spreading our selection risk and downgrading 3.

Bonar and Roughsedge are very different players based on what little I've seen and have been told. Bonar is the one to go for as a priority, however, and their medicals will determine our choices as much as anything.

Throw in Kelly and Patsmore and you have yourselves a clearance unit to develop.

Don't think it will happen but I see your point in getting 2 for 1 and spreading the risk

It'd be in a trade with GWS, probably with just the one pick back, then looking to turn a few players and existing picks into a spread across the 20-50 range.

Injuries aside, Bonar and Roughshead would be great pick ups, depending on what else SOS targeted

I know you like Patmore, but I would prefer Hayden

5 weeks to go before the deals start

Top end talent was never an issue with this draft. It just fallls away more than last year.
I tend to disagree a bit. It's hard to get a handle on the top end talent and fortune might favour the recruiter who is prepared to take a risk on a less fancied player, one that might take a bit of time. But you are right that it doesn't appear to be a deep draft.

Lets also not undersell us being the first Victorian team with a pick in the PSD... easy enough to get a player putting a decent 1 year price on his head stating he wants to play in Victoria which would hopefully scare off Brisbane and GC not to risk another flight risk.

We have taken punts like that too often in the past. Its part of the reason we are in this position list wise.

They're all punts, just different kinds. Taking punts on talented players returning from injury is fine, depending on the injury and their post-operation successes.

I don't think risk taking was the issue as much as stupidity.
Player development was an issue for us for many years.

It wasn't that long ago that we didn't have a development coach & we have been playing catch up since we finally went down that road. SOS & crew are doing a great job, but our draftees are coming into a better system than many of those that went before then.

Putting Raynar aside, of the other highly touted mids Dow strikes me as the most talented player with clean hands, smarts and toe, but I can also see the potential of DU with his bigger body inside.

Happy with either of them.

Cerra also looks good but I have him fourth.

Not a lot to meaningfully discuss given the uncertainty of pick three remaining ours.

Maybe we discuss who we'd take in the top 5-10 picks? I have a feeling that's how it will end up.

There's been some ripper midfielders in that range selected in the past.

Joel Selwood is the first that springs to mind.

He goes ok.

That's where I still rate Fogarty.

If we could clone Cripps and have two of him we would.

Rayner has been likened to a Robbie Gray/Christian Petracca type. Powerful forward who can play midfield. I keep thinking of Rayner in our forward line in a couple of years time with our kids already. Could be nightmare for 17 other clubs.
