Yep - SoS has earnt our full trust. Hindsight is 20/20 but I’m completely relaxed knowing the best decision will be made by the club with the information to hand on the night.

Not that we’ll ever truely find out, but I would love to know how the discussion between Bolton and SOS goes prior to draft night: if SOS asks Bolton what he needs and then goes and gets it or if SOS says this is who I’ll be taking so make your plans around that.

The coach will normally give a list of what's needed to the recruiter who then tries their best to get those types of players. Of course it's all within reason, depending on what's available around the picks we have.

I suspect he won't be there at 10 but I feel Coffield would be a great fit for us as he's highly regarded as a leader and would allow us positional flexibility.

Yes Coffield would be a good choice, however he plays similar to Bryne, Plowman and Williamson... he could also end up being a Kyle Langford type that I dont think is a priority for us at the moment.

Darcy Fogarty smells bust to me I hope we stay well clear of him. We need some toughness and speed in the midfield. Higgins would be perfect at 10

if brayshaw was there at 10 think he would be the pick - dont think he will be though

featured at teh combine with quite a few top 10 results understandably a lot of anticipated top picks like dow, rayner and constable missed the combine....

Here's the thing, though; rewatch his footage, and instead of looking to see Cripps - which is an obvious comparison, as he hits blokes by hand without looking at them from inside a pack - look to see Sam Mitchell, if he was Cripps size.

His skills by foot put Pat to shame. I've wanted Constable above most of the other, more sexy possibilities, as while he appears no frills, his qualities are translatable to AFL level almost immediately, and he's completely unruffled by any kind of tackling pressure, which is where the game seems to be heading. He would go a significant distance into covering Gibbs absence in the short term, whilst allowing Pat to play forward. If we took someone with genuine pace at 3 - Cerra, perhaps - he'd be a great option.

Yes agree with what your saying, very good prospect and very Cripps like. Be interesting to see where he falls in the draft. Like Cripps could be an absolute steal in the teens

This 10 pick, whilst great this year, will be freakin awesome next year if they bring in live pick trading. Imagine coming up to our pick, we have 3/4 players we like still on the board and WC at 13 come to us and say, “here’s 13 and 21 for your 10 and 30. We have a player available but think GWS (11) and ADE (12) May take him”. Bam - SOS moves our 3rd pick up 9 spots and we still get aplayer we want. That’s another reason why teams are posturing for next years draft - live pick trading.

Fair call, I do believe that Coffield has more scope to play through the midfield than those you've mentioned and become somewhat of a Pendlebury-lite with proper development.

Crosspost from the List Man thread

Any chance we'd be interested in Sam Hayes at pick 10 if he gets there?

http://www.espn.com.au/afl/story/_/id/19244198/knightmares-afl-draft-wrap-sam-hayes-starring-ruck

A lot of what I have read* has been underwhelming. Yes can play ruck and he can play forward. And he would easily be the best ruck/fwd in the pool. But he is not dominant in ruck and he doesn't have a presence up forward.

I know he is a kid and he is raw, and ruckmen take time etc. But it's one thing to be tall. It's another to be able to take a mark. It's a whole other thing to demand the ball or look to aggressively dominate contests etc.

My gut says he has elite tools, but may not make an elite impact....

*I am an armchair recruiter; haven't seen live, have seen some online footage, mostly going off online reports.

EDIT: Arr0w beat me to it and said it better too....

Drafting rule #1
Thou shall not draft a ruckman in the first round.

Out of all the positions on the ground the evidence suggests it’s no harder to find a good one at a rookie pick than a first rounder.

There’s a post that outlines it very well from another board.

Go watch Bailey Williams. ;)
