I agree regarding Brayshaw but I think there’s enough question marks surrounding Fogarty for him to slide to 10, a very high risk high reward selection. Then I think Stephenson is one of the hardest to place of the top prospects, I wouldn’t be surprised if he goes top 4 and I wouldn’t be surprised if he slides a bit, most likely he won’t make it past pick 8 though.

A lot of the teams dont really need a fogarty like player and have other serious needs.
North need a midfielder
Collingwood are a risk but think they need to go tall
St Kilda need midfielders
Doggies i think will go Coffield if available to replace Boyd & Murphy.

I think Collingwood are the main danger

Say SOS rates Naughton in the top 5 players and he’s still on the board at 10. Would anyone actually be surprised if his name is read out? I’m really hoping that he is gone by 10 so this option isn’t possible, it also means an extra mid will make it through to 10.

I wouldn’t complain if we picked up Bonar though. I can’t say I’m too keen on Higgins. Lacking in size, athleticism and his kicking seems to max out at about 45m.

Isn't it amazing what different people see? Personally I'd be happy to take Higgins at pick three, cause I doubt he'll make it to ten. Has a beep of 15.5 and runs 20 in under 3 secs so don't see any knock on his athleticism. He is a beautiful kick on either foot and thumps his handballs. Just rips it out of packs and off other players, always one grab and grabs it early at that. Tackles hard and holds on. Always turns the right way to get away from pressure situations, and nearly always gives it to advantage. Level headed and loved by his team mates. Incredibly professional and hasn't been injured once in the last four years.

If he's somehow there at ten and we pass on him it will be our biggest mistake since rejecting Greg Williams.

No doubt he will probably have a 150+ game career due to his elite work ethic and football smarts, I just can’t get excited by watching him play and it seems as though there is doubt about what position he will play in the AFL. I suppose Jack Viney is a similar size and is a good inside mid, Higgins may follow a similar trajectory. I’m pretty confident he’ll be available at 10 anyway.

geez, you lot are absolutely ramping up the excitement factor for me with all your quality comments and argy bargy - loving it all - by draft night I fully expect to be a nervous wreck - just please, please, please, carlton - no unfeasible reaching!

Great write up.

Watched him up close against WA, where he played as a midfielder in the first half, seemed like he had his own footy.

Rate him number 1, for footy IQ, in this draft

The scuttlebutt from Twomey and bishop is that North are into Fogarty @4.

Seriously why doesn't anyone on here know sos personally so we could get inside info on who where into

Sure makes a change from the constant leaks that came out under the previous recruiting regime. Everyone seemed to know who we'd take 2 weeks before the draft. And then other clubs would manipulate that info to force our hand to go early, and gain an advantage over us.

The way i see it.

Bris: Rayner (best player available, Fagan will back him in to stay)
Freo: LDU/Dow/Cerra (need dynamic midfielders)
Car: Cerra/Dow/LDU (SOS rates him highly)
North: Dow/LDU/Cerra (will take whichever mid is available, will be praying for Dow)
Freo: Brayshaw (consistent midfielder and best available)
Coll: Naughton (really rate him, and suits needs - biggest risk to take Fogarty imo)
Stk: Stephenson (dynamic game changing mid/fwd, exactly what they need)
Stk: Coffield/Clark/Bonar (think if they take Stephenson they will look for an inside/outside mid)
WB: Coffield/Clark (replacement for Murphy/Boyd - need some class off HB/speed through the middle)
Carl: Fogarty (praying for this - SOS rates him)

Col, Stk, WB are the risks to take Fogarty
however Stkilda have Membrey and think they dont need a player like Fog.
Doggies need a classy halfback mid over a player like Fog, although he is a Stringer replacement

The more Rayner is touted as going #1 (or at least the media/hype cycle is heading back around to that position) the more comfortable I am with us taking any of LDU/Dow/Cerra and then crossing our fingers that one of Fogarty or Stephenson (perhaps even Brayshaw) slide to 10. After that my gut feeling is the next tier of players I'd like is Clark, Coffield or Bonar and perhaps even Constable. I'm really hoping there's a bolter or two in the top 10 which may let some of the higher rated guns slip.

I'll be stoked if somehow any (as unlikely and bordering on impossible as it is for some of them) of LDU, Dow, Cerra, Rayner, Stephenson, Brayshaw or Fogarty are still there at 10. Really want as many of Naughton, Coffield, Bonar, Higgins, Brander, Constable, Murphy, etc to make it up into the top 10 as possible so we end up with as many options from that 'A' list as possible.

Personally i would prefer to grab 1 of LDU/Rayner/Dow at 3 and then O'Brien at 10 if available, second preference Brayshaw, third preference Fogarty.
All very unique players we could do with in our side. I don't think we need Bonar/Cerra/Stephenson. Either get tough guys at the clearances or great distributors of the ball. Every one of these kids needs to be able to run all day and i think come round 1 next year all these kids will be ready to do so.

Kind of abstract thinking but loss of Doch for the year = more chance of picking up LOB?

Nah, if we were picking LOB as a HBF it would only be with Simpsons retirement position in mind.

Most draftees get a small amount of development games in their first year, need to look internally but I’d be looking Williamson in the eye and saying “that’s your position for 25 games next year if you want it enough, you have a license to take the game on”

I understand the logic CC, but I hope Doc's injury has no impact on who we select at 10.

Odds are Doc will be back in our best 18 before pick 10 cements a place in the team anyway.

Keeping in mind with Simmo edging closer to the end it maybe a combination of factors in that position that ends up manipulating the choice as Doc has done his ACL and Byrne in skme ways still building on form from his acl as well.
