List Mgmt. 2017 draft thread

It seems to me that Naish has received a fair bit of unwarranted criticism on here. Can't think of who it was now, but one of the draft experts said that Naish had a lot of dash and line breaking ability which there is little of in this years pool. So he's certainly one of the more exciting prospects in my eyes. I'd rather risk him and hope he turns into a gun that take a boring guy who'll just be an average to good player

To me it all depends. If you are guaranteed a good B grade player you'd take that any day. The X factor type has to be fairly likely as against a sure pick. A 'boring' B grader is still a quality AFL player for many years. That increases depth and adds to whatever role they play.
A failed X factor player is a failed pick and gap in the list.

I still reckon Naish looks very likely. His only real downside to me is how outside he is. Our game plan requires you to apply and take physical pressure. Perhaps he will develop that over time as he adds some meat.

If Naish doesnt get picked before our pick 20 and gets picked between 20-25 would we have enough points to use our picks in the 50's so we can get another player at 25?

How good would it be getting 3 players at 17-20-25 and then using 3rd rounders to land Naish?

We don't get that choice - have to use our next available pick.
If he get's bid after pick 25, then we can use our picks in the 50's and at worst our round 2 pick next year slips back around 4 places.

would love A. Bonar (hehe)

despite the knee issues he looks very dangerous

If Brandon Ellis can play in our team I've got no concern with Naish being able to make it.

Ellis was never as outside as Naish and during his draft year was considered a tough half back flanker.

Is the Lever / Ryan Burton of this draft.

Potentially albeit less likely. Lever and Burton had very good underage years that had them considered top 3 draft prospects. Bonar has far more mystery about him and is benefiting from a weak draft class.

gotta feeling that we wont match on Naish before 20, reckon it's why we sold 15 for 20 & 25, Mr. Balme indicated as much when questioned.
Plan is to take best available @17 + best forward @20 then Naish. If he's bid on after #25 then we are on a"winner, winner, chicken dinner" outcome

We will match any bid after #11 for Naish, I have no doubt about this
That is why we traded #15 for #20+#25

I just keep coming back to Hayes. His tap work is sublime. Does anyone close to the draft reckon he's got the potential to improve his tank? I mean we don't want him if he isn't going to improve much there, but feel like if he gets his fitness up he'll be a serious player in the big league

Improving the tank is a bit of a furphy in my opinion.

Aerobic capacity is largely nature driven.

I didn't think Burton played at all in his U18 year, was purely drafted off his record before the injury

That would be correct. Same with Lever.

Bonar on the other hand is being hyped more on the back of his athletic ability and odd flash at TAC Cup level. He is more of a project whereas Burton and Lever were destined to be stars provided they could get over their injuries.

I would be very happy to take Bonar with #17 - Extremely happy,This kids upside is just as high as Patracca,Bont,Cripps,
The kid is an athletic beast that knows how to play football - 100% Star quality
If we had #9/#10 he is still the player i would take.

Not a massive fan of Hayes now tbh, Just feel the Ruck is a very over rated position in todays football and teams are now no longer so reliant on tap outs and are looking for Average rucks just to get the job done unless you have an Elite Ruckman - Happy to Rookie list a player like Joel Amartey or Scott Jones from east Perth
