Martin has an entourage?

Wouldn't think we'd be honed in on Martin.
Due diligence and all that, but maybe not primary priority.

Gibbs/Kelly sounds what we'd be after, but maybe not how things would pan out.
Still throw your hat in the ring and see what happens i guess. In it to win it and all that.

If we have met with him and or his management, as perhaps every club should, would be to jack up his price for Tigers to match

Don't want him at the club
Eh, if we get him I'll cheer just as loud for him as for anyone wearing the navy blue.

It's what's on the front of the jumper that matters, not the number on the back.

It's such a good time for the TPP to have been increased for us.
We're not stuck somewhere in the middle but building from bottom up. We'd have a much clearer view of what to do with the TPP and when.

The only question is:
Given we've sat on minimum TPP for two years, have some bigger contract players coming out of contract and now have to spend big next year anyway.......do we have to factor in this new 20% for next year also, or can we park that away for another day.

Just wondering whether we may be in a position where we have to spend, hence.........Martin?
My understanding is its a rolling 2 year bank. So we can spend 105% for the next 2 years.

If we only spend 95% again, we can only spend 105% for the 2 years following even though we would have had 3 banked. First one falls away.

Simples :
Gibbs to Adelaide for their 2017 1st and 2nd rounders .

CFC 2017 1st
AFC 2017 1st
AFC 2017 2nd
CFC 2018 2nd
All to GWS for Kelly and Hopper .

Martin as a FA .

We are out of the first 2 rounds of this year's draft that is reported to be thin but retain our 2018 1st rounder in a reportedly strong draft and take B.Silvagni with latter picks .
I would do all the above except take Martin as a FA.

I think we aim for Lynch (GC) in 2018 and Shiel (GWS) in 2019.

If Casboult leaves and we get a 2017 second round pick as compensation (band 3 compensation), perhaps use this pick rather than the 2018 2nd.

The Gibbs thing is heating up you feel. At this moment Gibbs is one of the best midfielders in the competition. In many ways he's better than Dangerfield, Mitchell and Selwood (who the media can't get enough of) because not only does Gibbs rack the ball up but he also uses the ball exceptionally well which many of the game's best ball winners don't, plus he is a goal kicker in a bottom side. Adelaide need to realise that Gibbs might be worth a premiership to them, they have a hole in their midfield and they are very close. Had they got the deal done last trade period they would probably be a sure thing for the flag this season. They ballsed up, no doubt. Premierships are worth more than draft picks and salary and anything because that's what you play for, it's the ultimate goal. Gibbs is just about All Australian and is contracted. The Crows must pay massive overs and they should because what ever they pay, a flag is worth more.

If we can get a deal done that means it's Gibbs for Kelly then we probably should. Kelly is a great player but he's a good player in a star midfield. He may not be as good in our midfield (I may be wrong) but he improves our age profile that's for sure and he should have his best footy ahead of him.

I don't get the dislike for Martin. The guy clearly has a good work rate and presents himself in peak condition and plays the game the way it should be played. He's a super competitor. Sometimes this has spilled out in public but that happens sometimes. You don't win premierships with a bunch of level headed role model types, you never do. He's just about the most damaging player and most valuable player with his versatility there is in the game. Be silly not to have a look.

We're in a prime position for young top end talent. We aught to be looking.
Selwood is a ducker. Wish he wasn't because he is a good player, just makes it hard to like him as a player ...

If Adelaide miss out on the premiership (and this includes missing out on the preliminary final) and the window is fast closing on Sloane, Jacobs, Betts and others, I expect Adelaide to come hard after Gibbs and for SOS to wrangle the right price.

Kelly absolutely. Two first round picks. Where do we sign now?

We just don't need Martin. Don't need him around all the young kids we've got.

If the money is burning a hole in the club's pocket after getting Kelly, there is Lynch (GC) in 2018 and Shiel (GWS) in 2019.

No way can I see Martin leaving Richmond.

With the new agreement, Richmond can and will match to $ 1.5 million a season, and even more.

Richmond would be bottom 4 without Martin (and it also has to think about replacing Jack Riewoldt)

It was reported that the manager shopped him around a couple of years ago when the contract was up. He was on the tour of GWS when the hosts asked Dusty who his biggest influences in footy are... Dusty said words to the effect of 'Me coach, Hardwick.' GWS said thanks for your honesty and the tour ended ...

It's all about driving up the price Richmond has to pay to keep Martin.

Yeah but.... Richmond

Article in the Herald Sun today saying Levi is a wanted man and rival clubs are going to make him a nice offer to try and get him.

I hope so! That GC game was the one that sealed it for me. We cannot move forward with this guy so let's try and get rid of him when his value is at its highest.

Band 3 compo will be an early 20's pick which will be very handy at the trade table...

Although his kicking for goal was atrocious Levi's contested marking and contesting were A grade. The way he presents and splits packs is extremely beneficial for the team. Look back at how many times we bombed the ball long to Levi and he crashed the pack and brought the ball to ground. Not many in the league can do that. We would miss him immensely.

Be careful what you wish for..

Not sure richmond would want a free agent if it would subdue compo for Martin. (Martin is a free agent now?)

This would be a moot point if they hold on to dusty

I can see Levi commanding a very decent offer which could trigger very good compensation (i.e. band 3, maybe more  )

What the club needs to work out re Levi is whether his presence holds back the development of McKay and Weitering (the best 19 y.o CHF in the game this season). Can the three of them play in the forward line together? If not, does Casboult offer anything elsewhere on the ground? I think MS3 might have mentioned some of the coaching staff can see him as a wingman.

I understand why people are down on his GC performance but, with respect, I think it the wrong conclusion. His kicking killed us but his marking, leading etc etc were all top notch. If he'd kicked a couple of those goals, we'd be lauding a career performance. He's never going to be a great kick but he's definitely become an AFL quality forward. We could do a lot worse.

Flip side is that if the coaching team think McKay is ready, trading him could benefit us in the long term.

not sure its as simple as that. read somewhere that nearly every club has existing contracts where they automatically rise by the % of the increase. so if you are on $500k and have 2 more years on your contract it automatically goes up to $600k. hard to see agents not getting this in at the time. from memory there were only 2 clubs that didnt have these contracts and they were interstate teams. clubs wont have anywhere the whole increase available if any.

McKay is 2 years away from being close to ready

Here are my best, most realistic predictions/opinions on what will happen in the lead up to and during September:
  • Cuners, Willo and McReadie to re-sign for 2-3 year extensions
  • Casboult loves the club and is doing the smart thing to let his improving form dictate his contract value, will re-sign shortly after R23
  • We will see a retirement again this year - likely Dennis who I can see transitioning into a role at the club. Definitely a good character to keep around
  • Kelly will re-sign with GWS after they fall short of their maiden flag - but only for 2 years. We'll come calling again at that point.
  • Crows will fall short of the flag and come for Gibbs HARD, tempting SOS with a better deal. But ultimately, we'll hold the great man and he'll honour his last 2 years of the contract.
  • Kreuz is staying after igniting a clause in his last contract. The club may even offer him an increased deal to keep him at the club if his form continues
  • Hopper will be our main trade target, which we will get done late in trade week for a late first rounder - our ex-Giants will have been in his ear for sure
  • We'll keep our 2017 and 2018 first rounders, possibly even trading up a little in the order to get a bite at another gun kid
  • Daisy and Simmo will earn 1 year extensions for 2018 at fair value
  • I'll likely get at least 2-3 of these wrong
  • We'll win a few more games and finish around 15th before our huge rise in 2018

I'd be thrilled should clubs buy into this so hard, they'd give up their first born just to have picks in this draft.
Who knows what we can claim by trading our first rounder. All good. :)

The super draft of super drafts was 2001 yet it had these names in the top 20; Polak, Clarke, Molan, Power, Cole, Watson, Brooke, Ladson, Harvey, Elstone.

Don't get sucked in by think there's only one way to skin a cat. We'll see what happens soon enough.

Spot on. Levi has value to us as a forward target, which doubles as protection for the developing youngsters. He
is great for balance with his valuable ruck minutes.

The notion of him moving to a wing when the kids develop is a nonsense. Motivational tool by coaches trying
to convince him he is not in a sunset position (dead end job when kids ready). Too often our ball movement
is stymied when he takes a grab up the ground and fails to move the ball quickly by hand or foot. Tall or
small, a wingman is a link player, he ain't it. He would seemingly have some significant attraction to the likes
of Richmond, Collingwood or Freo who have some established/mature forwards but are missing that second
big body and back up ruck. The price tag is the question, looking at Vickery and Mayne and the prospect is
real.

If a suitor pays him sufficient to bring us band 3, we would be ecstatic. Has a two year window (max) at CFC.
We have alternative options for second ruck, Phillips in tandem, or Jones or Rowe can all do the job.

Richmond coach Damien Hardwick said the lack of a second strong-bodied key forward prong hurt the Tigers in their narrow loss to Sydney Swans on Saturday. “It probably did cost us a little bit on the weekend. I thought we were looking to go down the line and we didn’t have the beacon up there,”

I was at that game. (Studying up on the opposition!) Richmond looked all at sea without a second tall. Vickery gone and no Griffiths, Soldo, Hampson, Elton, Chol or Maric. Nankervis got double-teamed and they had Carlton's own Shaun Grigg in the ruck at one point.

The Tiges could definitely use a Levi.

But for this weekend, remember it was their small forwards that ran riot in round 1.

Was on board until this point. Wash out your mouth Azul!
