Did i say at any price? They've obviously worked their salary cap and traded to have more first rounds in a block to attack elite talent. As Richmond would know this, you would make them pay up.

Early 20s pick for a player who is the best contested mark in the comp and is hitting his peak in a weak Draft? I don't think a player like Levi is easily replaced. He will help the development and protect a young player like Mackay immensely.
The club may want to blood Kerr and Mackay next year as our twin forwards. They may have suprised at the development of Kerr and hope to get Levi to have a bidding war with rival clubs to gain a better comp selection.

The holy grail is this monster forward that will overcome all list deficiencies . Tom Lynch was one. What happened when his delivery was sub par? Barely got a sniff.
I think Levi does a remarkable job considering the gaps in our midfield. Would Tom Lynch be able to dominate with our midfield? Debateable.
To me its so obvious- fix the midfield and instantly our forwards step up in class. Give levi some decent delivery and he will start to kick the 4-5 goals that Lynch does.
The game revolves around mobility and flexibility. When you anchor your hopes onto one dominant key forward you are setting yourself up for a period that we experienced with Fev up forward. much better to have multiple avenues to goal with the midfield contributing substantially to that.
If it was a choice between Kelly and Hopper v T.Lynch give me the two mids every time. If persisting with Levi/Jack/Harry/Charlie up forward , means getting our midfield dominant then Levi- we want you back next year

He is a shit kick for goal. Not just going by 1 kick either going by most of his career. I don't know how you can just forget about it because of a purple patch this year but he has reverted back the last few weeks.

When the pressure is on he cant kick. Deal with it.

Well that's because others and I aren't part of a fantasy land where Levi takes all these contested marks and then backs it up with accurate kicking like you would have everyone believe.

18 goals only from a guy who supposedly can kick and is the best contested mark in the comp? That's only 7 more than Jack Silvagni and Jack has played 1 less game than him. Had he played, the ledger would be even closer. Is this good enough from our main target to only have a handful more goals than a kid playing his second season?

Find me another eighty odd game stay at home forward who has kicked less than a hundred goals at 27 years old, playing the entirety of his career up forward!

Fair point will all be sorted soon enough either way . That mayne deal should be put up as the template on what not to do regarding free agency and then they threw in Wells for good measure just to make themselves look even more stupid

Was just about to post similar, Harks. The way to 'win' trades IMHO is to identify clubs that are trying to make something happen. And help them make it happen. Examples:

• If someone desperately wants to trade up the draft order to target a specific player - eg GWS with Taranto, Freo and Brissy made out like bandits
• If someone desperately needs draft picks to secure a trade - eg Hawks last year, Saints made out like bandits (even before factoring in Hawthorn ladder slide)
• When GWS wanted to roll their draft picks forward and 'rebuy' compo picks, they overpaid for them

What about this year? If a team desperately wants to move some exposure from this year to next, listen to what they have to offer. Saints have two shiny picks. They might trade one of them to us for our 1st next year, with some big sweeteners. Richmond have two late 1st rounders. Brisbane an extra pick. They just might swap one for our 2nd rounder next year.

I am a big believer that when negotiating, don't think 'what do I want and how do I get it', you ask 'what does the other person want and what will they give me for it'. Not from an altruistic perceptive, but I find it yields better outcomes for you.

Not dismissing that next year looks much stronger than this year, but if everyone wants 2018 picks desperately, I'm happy to hear them out.

You asked in what world wouldn't Richmond wouldn't match a bid on Dusty, I gave you an example. Threatening the Saints or Roos to match their bid with the aim of forcing them to trade for him isn't the same as actually doing it.

Great post but the highlighted section cannot be emphasised strongly enough. In most top 8 teams, the midfield kicks a large proportion of the said teams goals as well.

By fixing the midfield you "double fix" the scoreboard.

Well, unnecessarily throwing in 2 first round picks would be at any price. They have to offer big overs in contract terms to attract him, but they can do this because he is free in terms of trade cost. You cannot justify the same contract offer if you have to pay up for a trade.

So roughly 3 goals a game to get to 50 from here on in . You know as well as i do Levi is never going to kick 50 in a season even within a decent side and especially as he's doing ruck duties now .
Btw he is not and has never been a stay at home FF .

what are peoples thoughts on our first and Cas for Dusty... Highly unlikely... but hey. Why not??
(I don't want Cas to go, he's way to important for our young guys development. He certainly busted up some packs on the weekend, creates opportunities for the younger guys by taking at times 2-3 defenders..)
