Just throwing it out there.....
what are peoples thoughts on our first and Cas for Dusty... Highly unlikely... but hey. Why not??
(I don't want Cas to go, he's way to important for our young guys development. He certainly busted up some packs on the weekend, creates opportunities for the younger guys by taking at times 2-3 defenders..)

Why would we do that, when we could use salary incentives to lure him, if SOS wanted him?

I'm completely on board with signing him as a free agent, but if we had to trade for him I'd rather go for Kelly

Nonsensical

Need to remember what the plan is for the club and what SOS is doing. Nothing has changed. We are still rebuilding and there is a long long way to go. Murphy Gibbs Kruezer Simpson Docherty are playing at their optimum at the moment and that along with Bolton's coaching is making us look better than what we actually are. We need a lot more young talent and a lot more elite talent. By the time we are really challenging the players named will be past their best and others will need to step up and take their places. Our current kids still need a lot more time and experience and there will be more added at seasons end. This takes time

Casboult gets mentioned a lot and whilst he is playing a role and contributing at the moment he is not the future. At some stage McKay Silvagni & Kerr will take over. If some club offers him a deal I am sure SOS will be happy to take the extra pick. If not he will get offered another lowish contract.

SOS will still be ruthless at the end of the year when it comes to list changes. He won't be fooled by our recent efforts. It's about building the next great side and not being content with being competitive. Names such as White Gorringe Graham Thomas Armfield Buckley Boekhurst Jaksch Sheehan G-Mac Korcheck Kerridge Smedts Gallucci are still very doubtful to be on the list in 2018. Contributions are fine but we need players that will do a lot more and help us to No.17. That is the goal.

I still expect 8-10 changes at the end of the season with a heap more young talent coming in. If we can get a Hopper/Kelly and maybe a Balic or Jones or Kennedy along with 5-6 new young draftees I will be very happy.

An extract from a phone call SOS may have had this morning:

JR - Hello SOS, this is Justin
SOS - Who?
JR - Justin Reid, AFC List Manager
SOS - Mr Silvagni to you
JR - Oh um, anyway was calling to discuss a possible trade of Bryce Gibbs
SOS - Bryce is contracted and by all reports is really happy in blue
JR - Well, if he did request a trade, what would satisfy you
SOS - I will tell you what I will do Justain...........
JR - Justin
SOS - Whatever........It will cost you 2, 1st rounders, under pick 14 ............
JR - That is way too much
SOS - Interupt me again and the price increases. Cost you, 2, 1st rounders, under pick 12. The proviso is, if it comes out in the media like last year, the price will go up dramatically. A sunset clause of 7 days, to verbally agree.
JR - That is unreasonable, he is not worth that
SOS - Well it seems, after last night you are some way off winning a flag, so he is worth that to you. By the way, if you miss the deadline, the price will increase.
JR - But........
SOS - Bye !

Quality post! I'm confident with SOS in charge of things and though not every player will work out, I'm sure he'll make the tough calls he feels necessary for us long term. His trading has been excellent, but it's the draft picks that now have me excited. Some of these kids won't step up from a promising kid to be long term contributors, but for the first time ever I can see great potential in a lot of picks that aren't pick # 1.

I don't get this talk of Tippett/Reid or whoever for Cas. Their salary will he similar so why wouldn't we just keep Cas.

I'm not saying do it, but.....
  • IF Cas got band 3, we didn't match and we got pick ~23 compo
  • We get Tippet for a meaningless pick because he is a salary dump for Syd
  • Swans pay a portion of Tippett salary, we pay him ~ what we pay Cas
The trade is now Cas vs Tippett + pick 23.....

I don't want Tippett, but to broadly recycle Cas for Tippett and get a free pick out of it......It's not as outrageous as it first seems.

Gotta disagree that we are playing better than we actually are. In fact I'm not even sure that's possible.

I guess the theory is that if we can pick up a 2nd rounder for Cas as a free agent the Swans would be keen to trade Tippett for maybe a 5th rounder? (or something that we wouldn't be too fussed about) to get his salary off the books and the Swans to pay some of his salary. Then we would be a 2nd rounder better off and not too much change on field - basically a swap for key forward/rucks.
Or even better if the Swans are so keen to dump Tippetts salary if we were to get a 2nd for Cas we trade that to Sydney for Jones and Tippett and we pay all of Tippetts salary.
A lot to play out but draft position and trading in good players are important to us short term. Salary cap not so (yet).

So roughly 3 goals a game to get to 50 from here on in . You know as well as i do Levi is never going to kick 50 in a season even within a decent side and especially as he's doing ruck duties now .
Btw he is not and has never been a stay at home FF .
Yes he has been
He's played forward all his life
He's playing dual roles now because kreuzer needs a rest
No other reason
But he's neither a very good forward or ruck
He is just a spare parts man in both

So if some club thinks he's worth something and we get nicely compensated to put the remainder of the pieces in place is glorious!
That's exactly the beauty of all this.
So I'm hoping he can keep up his form and he becomes someone else's problem and we can continue the rebuild that makes sense.

Fact is as of the latest round levi has kicked 18 goals 9 behinds thats a conversion rate many players would like to have . So at present the cant kick statement is off the mark and he deserves more respect for his achievement in that area this season .
However i do reserve this statement for future amendment ;)

What concerns me is that he is 27 and that conversion rate has been through a truck load of coaching from S Rocca. Whats even more concerning is that over the last few weeks his set shot form has defaulted back. I get the impression that those that thought he had played a fairly serviceable game against the suns may of had a very different opinion had we lost that game by 1 or 2 goals..The end result made Levis performance look much better than it was.

We can't trade cas, he goes where he chooses.

Gibbs desire (of any) to play there just dropped though.
It seems weird to say because they are on top of the ladder but it is hard seeing that team getting through finals and winning the GF. They are well ahead of us and look a million dollars when they are allowed to play their way but seem to crumble when pressure is applied to them. You would really have to question the mental toughness of that group to grind out tough wins, which despite being at the low end of the ladder, we have shown to be able to do. Not inconceivable that Gibbs would have second thoughts about playing there in favour of what we have coming through.

Whats embarrasing is picking out 1 kick and tarnishing a very good season to date because of it . He has been a very good contributor THIS year thats all that matters to the side and club . The drivel about his kicking is boring as i said in another post he has kicked 18-9 this year not 9-18 . Have you not watched the past decade of ridiculously easy set shot goals by hundreds of players being missed from dead in front ? .If he drops off for the rest of the season then he may well be moved on . If he keeps playing as he has then he will be either rewarded with a good contract with us or a better one elsewhere . Good luck to him whatever the case .

Sorry better one elsewhere would be a good outcome for Carlton.

Kicking ...and Kicking properly is a fairly big part of the game of Football and Levi just doesnt execute properly.

I hope he gets what he wants by way of $$$..but it would be a fab outcome for Carlton to get back into the second round on the back of Levis departure..
