A lot went right?
He didn't start training until February and played the first 6 weeks as a forward. After that he averaged 116.
If Bont played forward so much he would have got F eligibility this year (like several other Bullies mids) so I think you're overestimating his total forward time.
As to what went right for him, it was the influence he had over close games (the Bullies had plenty) and the resulting benefits to his SC score in terms of scaling and multipliers for game winning/influencing plays. So basically he's probably going to need to improve his possession numbers to get the same SC scores as in 2016. Can he do it? Yes but it limits his likely potential scoring increase somewhat.
