How about Cameron and their 1st rounder pick 18 for rocky and pick 24
Cameron and Adelaide's first round pick straight up for Rocky. I wouldn't be sending any picks back unless it was a 4th or 5th rounder.

Personally, my first choice is to keep Rocky. My second choice is to get as high a pick as possible in either trade or compensation for Rocky. I'd prefer to go to the draft and pick kids to develop in our system. If a genuine star player wishes to come to Brisbane, then I would look at trade options.

Why are folks concocting trades for Rocky?

Isn't Rocky a free agent and therefore clubs don't need to offer trade to secure his services?

Restricted free agent, which means the Lions could technically match the offer and force the bidding club to trade for him, as Adelaide did to Geelong during the Dangerfield trade.

Yeah, technically.

I'd be surprised if that scenario arises again for anyone other than a genuine franchise player. The whole attraction of a free agent is that you make your list stronger without losing anything in a trade.

I guess that's a risk you take when agreeing to terms with an RFA.

Yeh, the Dangerfield 'trade' was Geelong being very reasonable and acknowledging that Adelaide would be losing out big time through FA. As I recall it, Adelaide were happy to let him go, that is not match Cat's RFA offer as long as they were to be fairly compensated. Cats wanted him badly enough that they traded for him and in all likelihood would not have been able to make a substantial offer Adelaide would not be able to match. I doubt we're in this situation.

I can however see that Adelaide may not want to pay overs for Rocky in terms of remuneration. The Lions threatening to match any FA offer may motivate Adelaide into a trade. It seems far fetched though, that on one hand a club could get FA free (remuneration aside), yet on the other hand have to trade an early 1st/2nd round pick + a contracted player. It goes against the spirit of FA and it can be interpreted as collusion by clubs to keep down the price of players, even though in the end naturally players get the final say.

Didn't Dangerfield ask Geelong to trade as well? To ensure Adelaide didn't completely lose out...

Yes, true too. But I don't think that was a condition. Just a bunch of reasonable people making sure it's a win/win for all.

I think the key to the Dangerfield situation was that he was prepared to go to Geelong for what was probably less than market value for a player of his ilk. That meant Adelaide could easily match the Geelong offer under RFA conditions. Geelong and Dangerfield both effectively needed Adelaide's consent to make the deal happen and for that, Geelong had to pay.

In the end, Geelong got their man and kept their salary cap under control but had to pay a trade price. The alternatives for them would have been to miss out on Dangerfield or offer him a contract that Adelaide weren't prepared to match.

Haven't you heard Buckenara now reckons Rocky would be an ideal fit for the Swans. Talk about pulling names out of a hat
Weird suggestion. Swans just let go a younger, arguably better version of Rocky due to salary cap pressures.

But simply Adelaide forced a trade to get more in return and were willing to keep Danger; we may be in the same position with Rocky.

Makes no sense, they would have been paying Mitchell less than Rocky.

Grain of salt because it's from the "AFL Trade Whisperer" Twitter account, but probably worth posting nonetheless

Why on earth would anyone want to go to Collingwood.

Why on earth would anyone want to go to Collingwood.

Because he reads BigFooty and wants to punish us by making us deal with the Pies again in trade week!

After you have been there every where else looks good.

I really hope we keep Close. Give them Freeman
I dont blame him for looking at options.
He hasn't been given much of a go this year.
Does seem on the outer a little.
