Wouldn't be totally against trading our 1st rounder for next year for a top 4 pick this year. From all reports next years draft is going to be full of highly rated talls of which we have no use for. I reckon the Blues and Roos would absolutely overpay for a chance at grabbing 2 talls next year.

We are guaranteed to grab 2 highly rated mids this year if we can pull this off. 2 of Dow, LDU, Cerra and Rayner will fix our midfield issues for the next 10 years.
Shhhh, don't tell briztoon, Izak Rankine.;)

Was told this morning by my Saints in-law of talk that Dylan Roberton was heading to us......no more than that, so I'm assuming it came from their facebook page.

Anyone able to check it out to see what the talk is? I checked a couple of stories about him, can't see it happening myself. Seems very happy at home in Frankston close to his family and the club.

... and that would mean 3 Robbo's anyway, so don't need another one!!!

We need to make this happen. Could you imagine Derwayne trying to call our games?

"...and right on cue, Robinson...no Robertson...or is that Roberton?" He would implode!

Dylan Robbo is 12th overall in total marks for the season. Definitely would add something to our backline. Though as others have mentioned, it would be hard to get him, Charlie and Ballenden all in at once.

I personally wouldn't like to see us go down that path for a few reason. I know it seems like next year draft is always talked up, but it something we need to keep in mind.

I'm not expecting a sharp rise up the ladder next year either, which is obviously the time you'd want to be trading your future picks.

Id also like to see us building from 4 consecutive drafts, We're already starting this draft with a strong hand, so hopefully with our first 3 picks and Ballenden this will make for a 3rd consecutive strong haul anyways.

I'd personally like to see us attack next years draft with that strategy, a lot of thing line up that makes that the smarter play for us IMO.

Just ask the Hawks if they would like their first round pick this year.......
The difference is that we'd be doing any trade under no impression that it might be really high. Would I trade pick 1 next year for pick 4 this year? Bearing in mind SM's comment I'd definitely consider it. An extra midfielder, an extra year in the system, I can easily justify that for a three pick downgrade. It's unlikely that anyone would do it though because they might end up taking pick 6 to 8 for pick 4.

If I was a bottom team hitting the free/restricted agent market hard, and didn't need a top four pick in this years draft for trading purposes, I would definitely consider trading this years pick for a pick in next years draft.

Realistically where is the best that Brisbane could finish next year, 5th from the bottom, 6th from the bottom.

If I am Brisbane, do I consider trading next years first pick? You can guess my answer and use all the expletives you want in imagining my reply.

Of course you would .... unless someone pulls Rankine on you .... see what I did there, hey ;)

Look what fagans done for walker and Bastinac. TBH I reckon Chris and the team could turn James Aish into a player
I wonder if fagan has the pulling power to get whitecross to the lions. I know we have tried in the past and he is a Brisbane boy. Don't think he would cost big dollars and the hawks have a habit of offering him just one year deals. Would offer a bit of experience in a young team . 27 years of age.

There's a reason for that, because he's an average footballer with injury issues.
Don't see why we'd be paying out fringe player contracts (if the rumours are to be believed) just to bring in different fringe players

I'd be very happy with Nrobbo, Mrobbo and Drobbo. Don't see how we could get a trade done though.

If out on contract it would be more about convincing him $$$ wise that he should relocate his family to QLD. As we'd have the leverage of the PSD if he wants to come.

We'd never get him in the PSD. For starters I think it is unlikely we finish with pick 1 but even if we did, he is one of the Saints best players. They aren't going to let him walk away for free.

if he is out of contract I guess he would walk for free if we really wanted it happen?

they did hardball us with the longer trade, pick 25 when they had 18/19 to give up to us (in hindsight the trade is heavily in our favour though he was a pick 8) would love one back at them

I would be happy winning only one more game this season to get First pick in the preseason draft for robbo3

Whitecross gets his body right, he would be valuable. Knows the game plan, wins his own ball and good under pressure. Deep back or half back he would be valuable to us at this point of development.

Releases Rich to play up the field and he brings character and leadership to a young group.

People were talking about Frost or Bell being paid out. Whitecross is miles ahead of those guys.

Was never coming last year, still unlikely to leave Melbourne.

IIRC, it would also offset any draft compensation we would get for Rockliff if he left as a FA. Assuming Rockliff would fetch an end of first rounder, I think it's an open question about whether we'd rather the pick or a (next season) 28yo mid.

Fair question. I was certainly basing my comments regarding Zaharkis under Rocky Re-Signing.

Where are these rumours from? on this board/reputable sources?

If so would be quite happy. I suggested it mid season that paying out Bell/Bewick/Frost might happen if we decided we needed another list spot but your post is the first I've seen it mentioned since then.

Has got 3 little kids and around the corner from his family....just get the impression that a move interstate would not be on his agenda
His wife might hate his family and she is the driving force for an interstate move.....u never know....women are powerful creatures hahahahahaha....ever seen EVERYONE LOVES RAYMOND?

There has been some ruminations. We need at least 5 spots on the list, if you factor the guys general concensus says we want to keep...well something has to give. Frost and Bell were the main two brought up.
