No one is going to care we paid overs for Charlie or got unders for Schache when the AFL gives us pick 2 as a priority pick. :D
Whatever did happen with that PP application we were lodging this year?
It got rejected very quietly. Lions Insider confirmed it on the question thread a day or two ago.

Well its all done now..........time for The Big Conole to weave some magic.........no pressure Con lol.

If I've got it right, in the last two years we've traded out Hanley, Rocky and Shache for Hodge, Cameron and pick 15. It doesn't look great on paper, but if we value character, you'd have to say it's a huge win. Just hope we keep following through with getting quality people to the club.

We got 18 for rocky didn't we? That means we need to add a another player to that equation.

A small reminder to everyone - we made Schache Pick 2 by selecting him with our 2nd pick in 2015. Somehow, I don't think our due diligence regarding draftees was up to scratch if you looked at our footy dept, coaching, wellfare and leadership.

I don't recall seeing such an introverted footy player.

Yep it has been stated. The mistake (in hindsight) was drafting him, not trading him for 25 and 40.

Our aim was always to draft 3 top 20 players this year to complement the 4 top 25 picks we drafted last year. The aim would have been to draft another 3 top 20/25 next year - so on that count we 'failed' during this trade period.
When you look at it on 'who will help us next year', Using picks 1, 15 & 18 will give us 3 top 20 picks to complement the 4 last year. Cameron will add immediate impact and is on the verge of becoming an A-Grader. Hodge will add experience.
As for Schache, there was every chance that he would not play any footy next year and does not fit into Fagan's game plan.

Overall, I think we did quite well. I honestly believe that Cameron was the pick of the trade period - we basically traded Hanley for Cameron.

Agree with that but also think our handling of him in Year 1 was horrendous both on and off field.

He was put on a pedestal as the saviour, was used in a lot of promotional material (including club membership cards from memory) which doesn't seem right for any draftee but especially not for one so introverted etc. and then on field we ran him into the ground in the first half of the season (from memory was most time on ground for the club at the bye last year).

I think alot of people are forgetting the overall list is in a very nice position and 1 year more mature and totally united.
We could afford to lose a tall this year, just didn't expect it to be Shak..
and Rocky will be replaced by about 5 young mids (Mathieson, Berry, Keays, McCluggage, Pick 1) that deserve to step into a starting role
and we have the draft picks to get top mid, another gun or 2 and Ballenden who could be anything..

Richmond will probably need pick 17 to bid on Naish. A nice additional result of the pick swap with Richmond is that it means they likely won't be able to bid on Ballenden with pick 17.

This is the only reason the pick swap made sense for us. we traded pick 20 and 25 for 15 and 53. Given we own 1,15,18,40,44,53 its hard to see 53 being used by us so it was basically 20 and 25 for 15 which is about a 550 point deficit (pick 34ish).

But if you factor in removing Richmond from the Ballenden race it makes our picks 15 and 18 live picks instead of potentially losing 18 to match Ballenden and having 20 and 25 as our 2nd and 3rd live picks on draft night.

A haul of 1,15,18, Ballenden is significantly better than 1, Ballenden, 20, 25.

1 thing that is disappointing to me about all of the trades (Schache, Cameron, Tigers pick swap) where I believe we have been on the worse side is that we weren't able to factor in any pick swaps next year. eg. swapping our 2018 4th rounder for the crows/tigers/dogs 3rd rounder or our 3rd rounder for their 2nd rounder. worth 5/10 spots on the draft order next year which is roughly the equivalent of pick 60 in the draft.

At the time he was. We had very little success, a coach on the ropes and here was a No 2 draft pick openly saying he wanted to play for us. And he did it well.

Can't blame the club for finding a ray of hope in a pretty dim period.

I honestly don't know how to feel. Saw the trades in a 1 minute break at work and could not believe it. have had time to digest things and am still in no mans land. Not to say there are not positives, most noted by other posters.

Hanley for CC. Fair trade. IMO CC is just starting to be the footballer he can, and if Fagan plays him more up the field as mooted - will blossom.

Swap Hippy and Schache's draft possies and we would be happy with the return. Walker is only 24 and offers more than Josh in physicality and influence. The club had obviously decided Josh was not going to be the player we needed so had to take what we could. IMO he will struggle to achieve what he is capable of, no matter mt support for him staying.

Rocky was gone anyhoo. Lotsa young talent to step up and take his place.

The pick swap with the Tiggers to get us back into the mid first round saved the day for me. Would have loved something next year tho.

I am a glass half full type, so I will keep faith in Noble and crew. W are not a Vic club so will always be at a big disadvantage, Fact. Live with it.

Serious question. In completing a trade are you able to ask for assurance that the other club won't bid on your f/s or academy prospect?

eg. the Adelaide and Richmond trades could they include a (non-enforceable) deal the clubs don't bid on Ballenden.

or is that draft tampering and not allowed even though it wouldn't be enforceable anyway.
