Not that bad compared to who though? I don't think the current midfield will match it with the best given our current depth and experience gap. Its good to be positive but people need to be realistic about our prospect in the coming years. We are basically rebuilding our midfield from here on end and we will be found out on multiple occasions next year, which is ok if you have realistic expectations. If we have any hope of being there or there abouts the likes of Duggan, Sheed, Redden, Venables all have to go to the next level and to expect that will happen is a little myopic. Happy to be wrong.

Daniel has 4 years to run on his 5 year contract signed last year. He is happily married to a Brisbane girl with who he has a young child. Not to mention Daniel is being renumerated $750,000 for his services.

We need to target a big inside midfielder like Patrick Cripps. He's contracted to the end of 2019 but a big enough offer to Carlton might get it done. I'd throw Gaff and a 1st and second round pick in to get him home.

Giants have apparently made their demands for players known:

Essendon have publically declared their interest in Devon Smith and will need to part with a first round draft pick if they’re hoping to add him to their ranks.

Nathan Wilson has expressed his desire to head west and become a Fremantle Docker in a move that could cost the club only a second round pick.

The same asking price has also been placed on the head of Matt Kennedy who wants to return to Victoria after being pushed out of the Giants side by Steve Johnson and Jacob Hopper.

I'd have thought each would be pretty decent value for the price. Shame we're not in on either of the second rounders.

I cant remember anything off the top of my head. In fact, we would have to be one of the very few clubs, if not the only one, that i cannot remember having made a public approach for a players services. If i am wrong, i stand corrected.

Pretty sure these are court intrigue of the Melbourne media bubble in most cases.

Kinda ridiculous that Port are prepared to get nothing for him, and a bit suss that Brendon is seemingly willing to be picked up by any club whatsoever.

Optimistically it's a bit like Richmond's year a couple of years ago, where they beat a lot of top 8 teams.

We beat 5/top 8 this year. Not terrible.

In a weak competition, we've got 3 guns in Kennedy, Nic Nat and Gov. Some B+ in Yeo, Shuey, Gaff. Darling and Hurn are best 22 in any team.

The rest are either role players, mercurial/unrealised talent or untried. If we can get consistency from the mercurial and a bit of luck with the untried, the good role players like Shep, Cripps etc. come into their own.

Could go either way really, I could see us having a crack in 2019.
