Colyer to WC is just connect the dots journalism, IMO. Fringe player who comes from WA must be looking to come home. Fremantle has their hands full and we aren't that active so we must be looking for someone, anyone to come play for us.

If they want to get Saad, stringer and smith, they will need to give up Francis or trade away the draft picks for the next couple of years, not trade away a guy that won't be best 22 when those above are in the side.

You don't trade in players just because its that time of year. You chase players that fill a need in the list. Apart from Ah Chee (potentially) there really is no-one on the current market that can fill a deficiency i.e. midfield. So I say we defer back to the draft where we can start rebuilding our list back to where It can contend again in a few years.

I agree- I would be of the opinion that should be what we do for the next couple of years unless someone of note does want to come home. I think we are quiet for that reason- apart from Wilson there isn't anyone else of note for us to chase that we would realistically get.

It won't stop journalists announcing that we will give up a 2nd round pick for fringe players originally from WA, though.

Howard and Marshall are forwards and do not possess the swing capability.
Clurey and Hombsh are only 193cm and 194cm respectively while Austin is 196cm but only played 13 games. I would have thought someone like Schofield who can fit into the running Port defence as well as taking the tall forwards would be decent back up. Out of the players you listed, I doubt any of them gone past 100 games.

The more I think about it, the more I believe Schofield and our 5th for The Sneezer is about right.

Mate' I'd say Ah Chee and their 3rd for Schofield. Ah Chee is a nice pick for nothing ala Vardy, but Schoey is a far more proven commodity.

North Melbourne's Sam Gibson is not happy about his de-listing after playing 130 consecutive games . He says he's got at least three to four more years to offer a club and would love to be able to plead his case in a face-to-face meeting .

Really we need to do this , a handy midfielder who gives 100 % knows Drew Petrie , Brady Rawlings ....be prepared !!

Not going to let this one go !!

And that sums up exactly where the Eagles are at.

Interesting that Gold Coast are really struggling to attract players. Masten should take a hint and the money and get moving. Suns are run by the AFL now and the AFL will be desperate to sell some hope and headlines into QLD simply to generate interest and some hope. I feel their is an ipportunity there we should look to exploit.

Just watch us trade next years 2nd to the Suns late in the trade pwriod for a 2nd and a 3rd round pick.

“We played Yeo down there this year and threw Liam Duggan back. We’ve got flexibility with those guys being able to play them through the midfield as well, but we’ve got young Jackson Nelson, Tom Cole, young Francis Watson, who we think might be a chance this year.

Lets hope we do try those players as mids.
I would like to see Yeo on the wing and Nelson as a defensive mid - these feel like no brainers.

Cole spent a fair deal of time pre draft in the midfield so I see him as the next all round mid to step up. Also Partington is best as a mid and not a HFF.

Watson needs to spend time playing a defined position first so I see him a fair way off it.

We might just need to accept that 2018 comes with risk that our stocks of drafted young midfielders are about to face the acid test and that means a sustained run at it.

Hand ball is brilliant but this was 2015 highlights ...how has he last few years been and why hasn't AhChee found a spot in the PA side in that period ..
Because they have a lot of good mids and hes been played out of position and never given a decent run.

Go over to their board and its wall to wall disappointment at losing him - they are convinced its going to bite them on the bum.

He's 31 and typically our players don't get much beyond that before they're cooked.

For me:

Duggan - Loved his work down back but i think we spend 2018 getting him primed for a mid role... Worst case in a couple of years he stays down back.

Yeo - Ditto. Has all the tools just needs to get it together

Nelson - As you said should play as a defensive mid because i think he isn't very good down back but is tough and quick. For me he replaces Hutchings from round 1.

Cole - Play down back for the year and try keep his spot in the best 22. With no Wellingham & Butler i think there is a spot for him.

Watson - Ditto cole but still have developing to do in he WAFL. Eventually i can see him playing on a wing.

Then there is Rotham who had projections as a mid but also plays third tall down back so i would like to see him transition on a wing also.

Gibson said in an interview that he was a late AFL pick up so his body is not banged up like a 31 year old.

I don't want him but since his definition of long haul travel is from Melbourne to Hobart, he body may be OK.

Tell me this guy wont be an addition to our midfield:

I like the highlights reel and he has a real weapon with his handball. Now it is up to Sam in in the box to see how he can make the most of it. I have a vision of Yeo tearing off the line and running onto a 35m pass. It may just work and we may just have a midfield coach who can use it to advantage.

Apparently Nick Suban's being shopped around by Fremantle. We should definitely have a crack I reckon. He's a real shit player and a f**k wit to boot, at least we'll all know who to hang shit on next year.
