I honestly don't see Tomlinson being in our back line. He may swing back to help out, but if the saints were after him I think they're trying to replace Riewoldt on the wing. Has a huge tank and is very mobile.... (plays his best footy on the wing anyway)

NEAFL is shit though, it's seriously worse than Ammos in vic.

But, won't make it as a tall midfielder like some thought from his NEAFL numbers. Handy defender with the ability to get 25 touches and 10 marks on a good day. That'll do me just fine.

Tomlinson and Carlisle would have the potential to be the best FB/CHB combination for 5+ years.
Allows Hugh to develop properly and adds flexibility to our line up where at best he can play forward and swing back, or alternatively relief in the ruck.
I like the Tomlinson trade.

His kicking is as bad as Gilbert though, he will make people frustrated.

I like the thought of Tomlinson in the wing, particularly with his endurance skills. I am not sure about his kicking skills, but I'm sure they cant be worse than some players we already have. Imagine having his elite tank on one wing and Sinclair on the other. It would give our midfield a new interesting dimension.

I just dont see the point of bringing him in for our defense this year as our backline was really the only part of the ground that functioned consistently throughout the year, and we have great deficiencies that need to be addressed.

I think we'd be an excellent shot at adding Taranto to the Tomlinson discussions if gws cap is a mess.

I think it's safe to assume gws is one of the clubs ameet said gave him a playing list (minus untouchables).
Surely Taranto isn't untouchable.

Would we be happy with 7 & 8 for tomlinson, taranto and the griff as a rehab buddy for freezer?

Also GWS in the past few weeks,have enquired about Lonie,Hickey and Gresh so something similar to the above with us offloading a player to them is a possibility i reckon.
But donk think we will be giving up the Gresh in the deal at any cost

i reckon Bruce's days in the ruck are over ... notice in the Richmond game we chucked Acres in for a couple ruck contests i reckon we are experimenting with a few options ..

I hope so, because he has done absolutely nothing in that role but hindered his forward craft due to being tired/whatever else.

I dont mind it as long as Acres is going up against the oppositions second ruckman which lets face it, most are average. We need Longer to improve his tank even further so someone else only does a couple mins a quarter of ruck relief.

i dont know about that ... the achillies injury isnt an easy one to get back from talking to a guy i know who did one in another sport a while back he reckons the mental side of it is a tough thing to come back from that having trust in it to not go again ... Hugh has a good head on his shoulders and has that natural talent i think the club would be prepared to be extra patient with him

I like the idea that his height gives our defenders someone to aim for when running out of defence like Roo did for a short while . He’s hard to match up on as he is pretty quick for a tall player . He is also an option like Gilbo if a key defender gets injured during a game you can move him back to cover otherwise if Robbo has to play key position it shuts down our run.

Think Tomlinson on a wing makes us too top heavy if we are also playing Paddy, Bruce and Membrey up forward. Gameplans seem to be moving towards more and more pressure, being that tall with a one paced midfield as well wouldn't be the way I'd go.

Tomlinson defiantly fits into our defence and it means Roberton doesnt have to spend so much time back there.
Dont think he's worth pick 8 though. I'd say more like 15-20.

Yeah Gilbo did some ruck work too. Still reckon that if Watts is a DFA then he would be an excellent moneyball pickup to play second ruck and swing through defence / injury cover for the likes of Brown (or whoever we pick up to replace Brown).

If he's not DFA Melbourne can't really demand much for him given they've literally thrown him out on his ear, maybe a third rounder? Personally I think he could be very, very good relative to the price to get him - I reckon in some ways he is unfairly taking the fall for the internal ructions created by Melbourne missing finals by a bee's dick.

I hope we keep at least one pic to stay in the draft , 7 or 8 as there are some good young players there and would be good to get at least one. Although I guess it’s fine if we are trading for youngish players anyway.

Is he work pick 8 or 7.... if the coaches and the recruiters think he will add what our team need to improve than go for it, but i would like a 2nd rounder back (maybe the pick for Devon Smith from Essendon) or a future 2nd
