what are our wishes for 2018

In the interests of being best prepared for a GF (we are faves for the 2018 flag for what it's worth)

1. No doubt we'll get 2 games against Richmond. At the least, I want to play them at the G next year

2. Want to play another decent Vic team at the G at 2pm on a Saturday. Probably Melbourne.

3. More day games. Feel like we play best at night which matters eff all when the GF is in the early afternoon

4. No trip to Tassie please

5. A home game against Carlton thanks

I want every hard team away, particularly at the MCG, and every easy team at home.

There is no better preparation for a Grand Final (if we make it there) than consistent hostile conditions because any GF we play will be an away game. We might have gone further this year if we had more challenging away games

With that said, I'd rather not play at Simonds or in Tasmania because neither are finals venues. I'd also like to mostly play at night, which we probably will considering where we finished this year

Well we should finally get 2 games against Richmond, including a Friday night at the MCG.

The draw will be unfair, but how unfair is not really known as some teams improve & others decline.

I don't get too concerned by the draw, because if we are good enough, we make the top 4 regardless.

I want games against quality opponents at the MCG at whatever time the Grand Final may be held. If we get rolled by good sides there and it harms our chances of reaching it then so be it as it's time the club doesn't only use win/loss to determine if we play the ground well. The quality of our matches there this year wasn't good but it was glossed over by the fact we didn't technically lose there.

The fixture should be simplified....

18 teams, you play every team once and 1 team guaranteed twice every year e.g. Crows vs Power, Eagles vs Dockers etc. That leaves 16 teams and its then rotated over 4 years who you play twice e.g. 1 year our double ups are Geelong, Richmond, Sydney and Brisbane, the next year GWS, Carlton, Eagles, Hawthorn. So over the four years you've played every team bar one the same number of times and home games are then easily alternated.

Is it perfect? Of course not but it seems a fairly even way to do it.

Thoughts?

Too simple and transparent, AFL can't manipulate it for money

Would like some away games against decent opposition and no doubt we'll play Richmond at the G and probably Geelong at KP. Should get a game in Sydney as well as we haven't played a H&A game there since 2015.

Most importantly though, Carlton at home, what other professional league has this scenario where one team doesn't host another at home for 7 ****ing seasons. Shows how amateur the AFL really is.

Hadn't really paid much attention to the draw (one week at a time and all that) but we've got a pretty tough run of games coming up

Showdown and Bulldogs the next two where we'll be heavy favourites but then:

10 - Melb in Alice Springs

11 - GWS at AO

12 - Freo away

13 - Hawks at the G

BYE

15 - WCE at AO

16 - Richmond at the G on a Friday night

17 - Geelong at AO on a Thursday night

18 - Brisbane at the Gabba

19 - Melbourne at AO

20 - Showdown

21 - Giants away

Then a couple of easy ones to finish.

Our good start becomes so important because there's plenty of stumbling blocks there. Good thing is that we'll head into finals with a few finals-like games in the second half of the season.

By R10, and barring no further injuries (ha ha) we should have our best 22 available, bar Brouch and Smith.

Brouch should be back after the bye, with Smith maybe some time around R19 or 20.
