List Mgmt. 2018 Draft Prospects aka the West and Khamis thread

Michael Gleeson in The Age speculating that we will be the first club to trade our pick, naming Adelaide, GWS and Port as likely bidders.

Will be a gutsy play from our new recruitment heads.

Very happy with this. As much of the “super seven” talk is a big aspect of this draft, the only prospects I’m really keen on and wouldn’t trade down for of that bunch are Luko Rankine and Rozee.

Not sure our list is quite at the quality over quantity level (unless the quality is just insane) and this trade will mean we’ll most likely grab a zippy outside mid (Smith, Clark, Butters) to complement our grunt players and a smart mid / small forward before west (Sturt, Hill, McHenry, O’Halleran). Both of these selections suit our needs really well.

How would we do it?

Have no idea, would have to include future first if we also intend on bringing in Smith as mentioned.

The only team wed be trying to jump is StKilda. We'd have to offer pkenty to get 3. Can't see it.

If we somehow get Smith, someone before West (Butters?) and West, then that is an absolutely roaring success. Will be hard to pull off, but it would be a masterstroke.

My worry with all this is collusion. We trade to get 10 and 15 (for example), then someone bids at 14 for West. They have somehow agreed to bid before we can get the advantage of that extra selection....

You would hope clubs have a gentlemans agreement in place to stop that happening.

Risky move from them as well. Clubs would be reticent to bid on a player at 14, if they don't see their value as 14ish, which West probably isn't. In that case, what's to stop us not matching?

Reckon this draft is where Ameet Bains will be shown to be a shrewd pickup.

Don’t see this happening. If they try we just don’t take west and they “waste” a pick on a player who will move to the dogs within two years. Clubs are generally very good with one another and understand each other’s mutual objectives. Can’t think of any cases of foul play come draft time and don’t expect this to come out of nowhere and be the first.

Melbourne, GWS and Viney springs to my mind.....

Saints nominated Ayce just in time to ensure we matched before our first pick....

Pan posted on here when Dal was interviewing an u18 prospect, he couldn't have posted on his phone, as I could see his hands. (I was in the room but not the player in question).

So instead of Smith, O’Halloran, West - we get Smith, West and a lesser pick - as 15 goes to West, we have lost 26/27 and O’Halloran ain’t there at 32 (purely hypothetical here)

I'm getting pretty excited about how this is all going to play out. In the teens-20s I can see offers flying about everywhere and we'll be ducking and weaving until the dreaded West bid comes.

I can't see how live trading can accommodate sweetening the deal, negotiating or counter offering. Port (and hopefully others) simply offer us their best deal and we've got a couple of minutes to accept or pass.

Maybe I'm slow to notice, but I always thought Suns taking Rozee at #3 was considered a real possibility. Most articles now saying the top 3 is a forgone conclusion: Walsh, Lukosius & Rankine.

Twomey still thinks GC will take Ben King at #4. Just can't see that. I can't see why they're not being linked to Smith more, he'd be a way better selection than Caldwell for them.
