If a couple of our tradesman mid types,Bastinac and Keays et al can rise from the ashes it would be fun to add the game winning X factor of Rankine to incumbents Zorko,Cameron,Hipwood and Rayner

Keays obviously has great scope for improvement. I think we can safely say that Bastinac has reached his development potential.

I haven't given up on him just yet.

I haven't either. He gives us something every now and then. It's just that he won't get any better.

We now hold pick 1... It will be interesting come the end of the year if we have pick 1 to analyse the situation. If Lukosius come that stage is still the consensus pick 1 do we want to draft him and add another key forward or would we prefer to trade it out for an absolute draft haul and pick up 2-3 gun midfielders in the top 18. I could see the Crows trading their three top 20 picks for pick 1 to secure Lukosius for example.

Melbourne looks likely type to play finals this season, which will leave all 3 Adelaide picks between 11 to 20. Missing out on absolute cream of the draft during GC/GWS launch added to our struggles in the last 5-6 years in my view. Lukosius seems too good to let go for even 3 teen picks.

They could yet end up with another top 15 pick if Sloane leaves though and then package their 4 picks in the 11-20 range for a couple of top 10 picks which we might consider for pick 1. Pick 1 for picks 6 and 7 plus a Crows fringe player could appeal to us. At this stage though I agree with you, I'd prefer for us to add another elite top 3 talent. As much as another gun mid to partner with Clugga/Berry/Rayner/Bailey appeals, Lukosius does seem like a gun prospect and with his agility and work rate I think he could end up a similar player to Charlie Curnow and will essentially play as a tall mid/flanker pushing up the ground to take big contested marks on the wing and link up in scoring chains and then pushing back to take marks inside 50.

If Lukosius is as good as the hype we have to take him, I think your assessment of him lionshine is spot on ie. Charlie Curnow type who will be able to play stints in the midfield only better than Curnow.

We could end up with a priority pick as well (pick 2?) and take the highest rated pure midfielder as well eg. Sam Walsh, Jackson Hately, has Izak Rankine got the scope to be a more permanent midfielder in the future?

Agreed, two top 10 plus a fringe might work. But getting 6 and 7 of two other clubs is going to be an interesting challenge in itself.

If we cut other clubs out - our 2019 first rounder gets traded to Adelaide for two picks in 15 to 20 - would that be better?

I read an article suggesting the crows do that but they don't need KPPs. Especially if they lose Sloane they need midfielders. I think they'd be better using those three picks.

We need mids. High quality top end mids.
We have needs in multiple areas of the park.

We need replacements to take over from Hodge and Rich, with speed and skill out of the back line.

We need to draft replacements for Beams and Zorko.

We need an elite marking KPF and a third tall option.

I reckon Bailey will be a good replacement for Zorko long term.

Yup, that has been my thought as well.

McCluggage and Bailey on the outside, Berry, Rayner & ??? on the inside.

Cameron and Taylor up forward (with Hipwood). Witherden and Robertson down back (with Gardiner and Andrews).

Long term we need another starting small/defensive forward, two KPF’s or one KPF and a medium forward/third tall type, and two small/medium defenders with pace and skill to rebound out of the defensive 50.

Cox.

Bailey and McCluggage will be clearance winning mids too. With Berry and Rayner as the big bodies, that’s pretty solid group of four to start with. I’d like another mid of Berry type dimensions. Whether that is Starcevich or someone not on the list, I’m not sure. And then it is just about adding to the group over time.

The flyer is now Tarryn Thomas has smashed the academy series as mvp and has been spoken too by all clubs so may not end up at north. And a tasmanian so less of a risk than the SA boys perhaps

Keep your eye on him , stocks raising fast

He'll end up at North. Clubs have no way of changing that. It just means they'll use their first round pick on him.

Ok was reported differently down here , will be interesting to see how it evolves , true jet tho

I'm liking the sound of Jackson Hately, would be a great partner for Jarrod on the inside.

#9 Jackson Hately
Inside Midfielder (Central District/South Australia)
21/10/2000 | 192cm | 80kg
Jackson Hately is one of the few pure inside midfielders in the top half of the rankings list. While he still has some size to put on, the 192cm midfielder is strong in the contest, where he can win the contested ball, tackle hard and win clearances. Hately can also hit the scoreboard when required. The Central District product has had a taste of SANFL League footy, recorded 21 disposals and seven tackles against Glenelg a few weeks ago. Hately was one of the big standouts for the AFL Academy in their match against the North Melbourne VFL side, where he had 17 disposals, eight tackles and kicked two goals.

Would be good if we could draft Lukosius and swing a trade for Hately.

Would probably take an over pay on our behalf to swing such a trade.
