Yeah on King, he was really helped by the anti-congestion rules. I didn’t really view his game as a dominant one. Still a very promising young talent though.
Conditions weren't ideal for marking forwards. I actually thought the standard overall was pretty disappointing. The Bushies this year were a bit short on raw talent. Unfortunately neither James Rendell nor Jake Bradshaw will feature in the draft this year. Second time i have seen Rendell live. He tries hard but is neither tall enough for the ruck nor skilfull enough as a key forward. He is an accurate and strong kick for goal though which is more than can be said for King. Bradshaw was virtually invisible.

You never know we might not get Lachie Neale-

Connor Rozee continues to impress in the SANFL, another good showing today in a final this time off half back, can play back, forward and in the middle, classy player who I'd have no hesitation in taking if the big 4 are gone at our pick 4-5.

Not worth pick 5 for mine.. Rozee worth around pick 8-12

I'd be interested in your top 10-12 power rankings if you feel the inclination.

I'll go out on a limb and give mine a go, purely from reading copious amounts of draft analysis on BF and in the MSM and watching vision albeit highlights not whole games. I'm not putting the King twins in there because I really don't want either and have not read or seen much re them, I just don't like the 2 meter plus tall forwards who dominate at underage level because of their height/size advantages and anti congestion rules. I have also paid zero attention to other academies draftees ie. Blakely and Thomas so I'm not including them either.

1- Izak Rankine.
2- Jack Lukosius.
3- Bailey Smith.
4- Sam Walsh.
5- Connor Rozee.
6- Liam Stoker.
7- Jackson Hately.
8- Xavier Duursma.
9- Ned McHenry.
10- Chayce Jones.
11- Ian Hill.
12- Xavier O'Halloran/Jye Caldwell/Curtis Taylor/Riley Collier-Dawkins/Jack Bytel.

The Kings, Blakey and probably Thomas I concede will go top 12.

Any other Lions BF draft nerds what to have a go???

Equally if not more un-qualified, but I'd go (in terms of who I rate/would like to see us pick up):

1. Sam Walsh
2. Izak Rankine
3. Jack Lukosius
4. Max King
5. Nick Blakey
6. Ben King
7. Bailey Smith
8. Jye Caldwell
9. Zak Butters
10. Jackson Hately/Isaac Quaynor

I forgot about Jordan Clark, I've watched some highlight packages of him lately and looks the goods off half back.

If we have a live selection with a pick from 40 onwards I'd like for us to look at some of the mature aged options. Adding a quality, mature aged player who could walk into our best 22 and contribute on a consistent basis from Round 1 next year(e.g. Tim Kelly/Luke Ryan/Bailey Fritsch type) would be very handy.

Marlion Pickett, Sam Collins, Shane McAdam, Josh Corbett, Nick Hind and Mitch Maguire all appear to be exciting prospects.

We need to be careful not to fall into a trap of not picking up any young talent still. Sure, we could possibly go light this year but if we are then it’s because we are already picking up three mature age recruits. We are probably better off picking up players that can develop.

A bit of Witherden about his kicking. Has good vision and takes really aggresive/creative options. Looks a lot quicker than Witherden though, looks like he will be a real weapon.

One year makes no difference. We have one of the youngest lists by age and games played. In the last 3 drafts we have picked up 20 players who are still on the list.

Time to consolidate a little and pick up some experience and class.

Draft picks are very exciting things to have in the off-season.

Gun players at their peak are more fun in the actual footy season.

I can understand why people get bummed going into a draft with little currency, but it will be worth it when the real stuff kicks off next year.

I was pretty excited with cam during the season

I’m not going to pretend I have the depth of knowledge (or even watched enough highlights;)) to formulate a top 10 or 12.

However, from what I have seen and if I had a couple of top picks, I’m taking Rankine at 1 and Walsh at 2.

The mantra that 2 metre plus 18 year old forward who dominates their opposition will never be that great always bemuses me.The next tall forward superstar will come from exactly this category.

I don't think anyone has said that 2m forwards will never be that great...

I reckon junior footy has to bear responsibility for this. It isolates kids in a way they might show off some qualities whilst ignoring some pretty major requirements for a forward in the modern game. 200cm forwards can definitely compete. We've seen Dixon and already a rake-thin Hipwood stamp their authority on the game. Hipwood has the potential to be a top 10 player in the game. It's these forward that are tall, have limited athleticism and are allowed to excel by virtue of dumb rules that are the worry.

The issue for the 2m forward is that he can dominate through a little bit of talent and the congestion rules. People get caught up in the stats and ignore all that.

You almost have to treat them like a ruckman and be prepared to wait 5-6 years for them to really make their mark.

All I'm saying is the next John Coleman will be taken at pick 15 because of the current reluctance to actually assess their talent and not cloud it with they are tall and dominating the shrimps/rules etc.
