Heard from a couple of club recruiters that Bailey Smith has flat out refused to move to an interstate club, and indicated as such in his interviews.

Hope someone outside Victoria picks him TBH. Ties in with this article in HS.

These kids should be banned from entering the draft for a minimum of two years if that’s the case.

Alternatively, ban them from playing outside of their home state.

It's in their best interest. We just can't risk it if it's health related.

I thought Smith was meant to be the ultimate professional? If he has actually said that, then IMO that's very unprofessional. Have no idea what medical issue he would have that would prevent him from being able to play for an interstate club. Seems very strange to me...
Travel sickness:rolleyes:

I haven't seen much of Smith, so can't comment if he is a 'reach' at our pick or not. But I remember last year thinking that Bailey was a reach at our pick and was set on picking up Fogarty who went to Geelong. One year on, looks like we made the right decision there (very early to call I know). Point being, that I have full confidence in our recruiting team to pick the best player for us.

Only possible medical issue I can think of is mental health issues. Might be arguing that he won't be able to cope away from his family etc? Who knows.

Mummy's boy disease more and more common these days

That was my initial thought too mate and the only possible reason I could think of. From what I read about him earlier in the year, thought that he would be happy to play anywhere. I have a feeling that he will go to the dogs. Will be interesting to see where he ends up.

Is nobody else expecting a left field or out of the blue selection, revealing some misdirection from the club with their public messaging? It does seem to happen most years (with the exception of those top of the draft single digit selections).
Well Smith would have been pretty left field if it hadn't been made public in the last little while. Answerth likewise. I rather suspect our first pick won't be too unexpected but therafter for sure a few surprises. Not too many people had us selecting Starcevich or Wooller last year did they?

I reckon he's always wanted to stay in Victoria, just wasn't prepared to say that publicly for obvious reasons. Whether his reasons are legitimate or not we probably won't know for a while.

I've got the feeling he just wants to stay in Victoria and is trying his best to make clubs aware of that, which is a pretty piss poor attitude to have in a national draft where some kids would give a left nut to be selected anywhere. But then again, he could actually have legitimate reasons for wanting to stay, but I'm not convinced.

I'd be sympathetic to Smith if there was a genuine issue. Might be on the spectrum perhaps? Given all that has been written about his *extreme* dedication something along these lines may be possible? He seems like he needs a lot of routine in his life. Regardless of the specifics if something vaguely like this were the case or if there is a genuine long-term mental health issue with another draftee, then the way the Hun framed the rumour is pretty repulsive.

But at the same time this is all *wild* speculation and the person referenced in the Hun might just a typical Victorian desperate to play for a big Vic club.

Internet apparently crashed at Marvel stadium in rehearsal last night according to Age. AFL now employing Superman to fly club's picks to central bunker. Could be a long night with a bit of chaos at Gotham city. Joker set to be drafted by interstate club. Watch this space for updates.

None of the characters or places you just referenced are from the Marvel Universe. :straining:

True mate. I remember a few rumours about Cam Rayner's 'poor character' before last year's draft and look at how true they turned out to be!
