Heppell is a ginger now - for all of those who were once weary about us targeting him.

The left field one would be a free agency go at Tom Lynch.

It would make the trade for Weller last year look very smart, considering I expect the Gold Coast to be the first team to match a free agency bid (Geelong never submitted the paperwork for Dangerfield on advice that Adelaide would match immediately).

Free agency starts a way out so Fremantle would know we were a chance for Lynch and that if we didn't get the Weller for pick #2 done this year and bid on Lynch then we wouldn't get value for Weller, he would be steak knives in the deal of our next two first round picks.

Not that I have any indication that Lynch I'd a target. I have heard Melbourne though which adds another interesting prospect.

Melbourne don't have trade currency this season so a trade with Gold Coast could open the door to us paying a first round pick for Hogan (no more than that without an improvement in durability and output).

Looks unlikely we could get McGovern from West coast. Realistically I don't think Freo will get one. Fasolo is a Free agent from Collingwood. Another small forward to add to our collection?

Will we trade our 2019 2nd rounder?

Rather Bolton from Richmond. Younger on less money and would come cheap in terms of trading.

But every collingwood fan I know says he's going to the Pies :p

I really hope for GC's sake that Lynch re-signs with them, but I'd love to get him at Freo. I could see him working well with McCarthy.

I’d sell the farm for Lynch:rolleyes:

Same age roughly as Fyfe, and hill

I think our window is open 2019 to 2021.
Jetta is a good player but for me he isn't a leader. I want senior players to provide leadership, otherwise I want players in their performance window.

Jetta won't get better and will play at the same level or slide.

Better to target players at the start of their performance window or two/three into their apprenticeship.

I reckon the last 2 flags have shown that the window is bigger than first thought, so why not have a peek this year?

28 this month. Right player wrong age.
We have a very young defensive group if both Spurr and Johnson retire at the end of the year. Jetta might be the ideal player to add to a defensive back six of:
B: Logue Hamling Hughes
HB: Wilson A.Pearce Ryan
A three year deal on good money could be very tempting for Jetta. At the very least a substantial offer by us would put further pressure on the Melbourne salary cap if they were to resign him. Possibly could help in getting Hogan back home over the next three years.

A West Coast supporter I know reckons we have offered a 5 year deal to Jeremy McGovern at an absurd 1.2 million a year.(source was only there is rumour doing the rounds in Melbourne media, so take it with more than a grain of salt) Not sure how legitimate that is, but I think his contact will be a major point of conjecture this year.

The following list shows all 12 senior list players out of contract at end of 2018 season (as well as their age at the end of 2018).
  • Aaron Sandilands 36.1
  • Michael Johnson 34.2
  • David Mundy 33.4
  • Danyle Pearce 32.7
  • Hayden Ballantyne 31.5
  • Lee Spurr 31.4
  • Cameron Sutcliffe 26.6
  • Harley Bennell 26.2
  • Tommy Sheridan 25.2
  • Ethan Hughes 24.1
  • Michael Apeness 23.9
  • Brady Grey 23.4
My early guesses:
  • Re-sign (2) - Hughes; Mundy (1 year)
  • Retirement (5) - Sandilands; Johnson; D Pearce; Ballantyne; Spurr.
  • De-listing (3) - Sutcliffe; Sheridan; Apeness.
  • Possible De-listing / 1 Year extension (2) - Bennell; Grey
Other's thoughts?

  • David Mundy 33.4
  • Harley Bennell 26.2
  • Ethan Hughes 24.1
  • Michael Apeness 23.9
  • Brady Grey 23.4
Would keep these and scrap the rest. Apeness only if he gets a semi decent run at it this year.
