The obsession should be about our list lacking stars across the field.

We have plenty of forwards the same as we have plenty of miss, how many stars do we have?

Max has the biggest star potential of any player available at pick four.

We got him and should be over the moon.

Totally agree.

If he hadn't done his ACL, and if we hadn't performed poorly, we probably would've been watching the telecast and seen this 204cm talent go pick 1 while we picked up someone in the range of pick 9 - 12.

Then we would've read about how he was a mad Saints supporter from a family of mad Saints supporters, who idolised Nick Riewoldt and who would've loved nothing more than to run out in the Red, White and Black. Last year we lamented not being able to get another tall skinny forward who loved the Saints, Eric Hipwood, and this kid is even bigger and even better. Imagine how we'd be feeling if Max went to Carlton or Gold Coast and started tearing it up.

Well somehow the stars have aligned and we have an absolute future star on our list.

I can't believe anyone can be anything other than thrilled; notwithstanding the desire to add some midfield class.

We got ourselves an amazing prize we never saw coming at the start of the year.

If players stay healthy then it’ll be Paddy/King/Membrey long term. They’re all different sizes and completely different players, I think they can really work well together.
And as for our supporters obsession with mids, yes we are a touch one paced but a group of Steven, Gresham, Ross, Acres, Steele, Hannebery, Clark, Billings, Kent, Coffield, Sinclair is something to build around.

Is good wont be around that long = Steven
Hopefully ok for a few years = Hanners
Sml Forwards who may work= Billings/Gresham
Secondary or back up imo = Ross (maybe bit harsh) Sinclair Kent
Midfield Acres, Clark, Coffield, Steele

IMO we are short 1 or 2, not sure Billings or Gresham have the tank to play midfield. We may be lucky and pick up 1 today otherwise it has to be the 1st priority in next years draft/trade period.

The current system of free agency is a joke. It allows the successful clubs free access to the league's best talent without having to pay for it in draft currency (picks or points)

I agree. Richmond get a gun FF without having to give up anything.
GC are reasonably well compensated with pick 3 but then the likes of us, Brisbane, north, dogs are all penalised by moving down the order*
Richmond should have at least lost their 1st round pick.
The league need to bring in something to stop top teams gaining superstars via free agency.

*not at all unhappy with Max King but Rankine would’ve been a dream result.

Bizzare to read some comments on here that Paddy and King can’t play in the same forward line. Must have missed the recent season where the premiership team had darling, Kennedy and waterman as regulars and also regularly resting their ruckman in the forward 50.
Have faith in Paddy, I think he will play the perfect second fiddle to Maximus.

Exactly. Did the Browns play together? The wakelins moved apart. We don't even know if either are any good. Neither have played under AFL rules apart from school footy and they don't coach the same way obviously. At the moment the only thing im convinced of is we have Max and GC have Ben.

Feel a bit sorry for Ben King to be honest. Unless he signs straight away he's always going to have pressure from the media about returning home.

Was playing golf this morning but kept an eye on my phone for the Draft. Great we got Max, and it fell perfectly for Ben to GC. It might be he goes well there and stays. Could be.

But we must hope we can prise him out for the romance of the brothers getting together again at the club they support. But it isn’t a given.

Looking forward to seeing who we get tomorrow.

So we are hearing that GC aren't happy about our tweet yesterday. Why don't we take the awkwardness out of it? AFL says we can trade future picks, so why not just get it over and done with today?
