After not really drafting many indigenous boys over the years, we are having a go now. Last two years up to Darwin for camps, and now getting a raft of indigenous lads. I like it. One of the things we lacked. Special players.

We got some players with a harder edge, some x factor. More mature players. Suddenly not such a 'nice' list. Am sure we will follow this up in future years.

And Gallagher is from SA. Must of had an influence....or some knowledge of what was there. Time will tell, but we haven't gone bland....or even vanilla. Can't wait to see how it all pans out.

Dodo made me hate him even more carrying on like he did when hawthorn didn’t match their bid for mosquito
on the inside he was thinking f@@@ they just called my bluff
**** i hate Essendon
It did look a bit staged didn't it? Massive show off old Dildo. All about him.

Very underrated, guys who play on the edge make the pure ball players walk taller and the opposition think twice.

Long, white and a couple of others took it up to the opposition in a game last year and we looked like a different team.

Hear, Hear! Exactly what we need, have often said players who have that bit of mongrel in them help others around them to walk taller.

BTW have I mentioned to anyone lately, that there is a young indigenous player from South Fremantle that we should look at next year as a mature age player? Michael Coombes:p

Just spoke to my mate who has played WAFL for the last 10 (ish) years and had me so keen on Pickett. He was surprised that he wasn’t picked up, but said he wasn’t surprised Parker was.
Reckons he’s a wiry, hard unit, explosive pace and knows where the goals are. Mate, who played with Claremont, said Parker really crunched a couple of their blokes last year to go with a few goals. Said he’s a bit of a rare unit and isn’t sure how he will go outside of WA, but has a fair bit of upside if he keeps his mind on the job.
Fingers crossed.

They said the same about Winmar back in the day. I hope history repeats...of course there can be only one, but something similar would make my f#cking year with regards to footy...also a premiership. I want one of those too.

Yep I like it a lot. We needed to walk taller. Add Hanners and Kent if he plays and some of these younger guys will get a bit of wind at their backs.

Here here, although lets hope he follows in Nicky’s footsteps, rather than the other Nick Winmar we drafted.... he finished the last year running around in the Claremont reserves.

Jesus, the first Nicky...definitely and specifically the first Nicky.

I still can't believe they took Nick Winmar with pick 32. As I recalled nobody expected it and no other club showed interest in him. He was delisted with one year left on his contract. It was a pick blunder that many saw coming.

The older Winmar would be nice!

they just had parker on tv here with his young family. the lads done well!

looking back on the draft i think we absolutely nailed it for the picks we had. richo should be happy given he's been handed 4 players who been very effective at the next level down. he's also been given hanners and kent. all he lost was hickey really. plus they got him ratten and gubby.

if he cant get it done next season, he only has himself to blame really. the club really has gone above and beyond to help him succeed.

The natives are restless. Lethlean understands hence a few plug & play guys.

Excuse my ignorance here, but is there still another rookie spot available...or are we full?
Think we are full unless we can move Joyce to a Cat.B Rookie.
Pretty sure he was a normal rookie the last 2 years and Connellan was the Cat.B Irish Rookie which u are only allowed 1 of.

i hope you meant nicky winmar and not nicholas winmar?

Certainly doing our best to build a core from the 1993 to 1997 births - added 6 to that group this off-season:

1993: Newnes, Ross, Longer, Webster
1994: Kent, Membrey, Hind, Pierce
1995: Dunstan, Sinclair, Young, Austin, Billings, Acres, Marshall, Steele
1996: Parker, Wilkie, McCartin, McKenzie, Lonie
1997: White, Rice, Joyce, Alabakis, Long, Gresham

Still a bit weak but if a couple of the new guys hit the ground running, and a few of the existing guys take a big next step, that could be looking like a finals core.

I am surprised we didn’t take Marlion Pickett given he is a bit of a mentor for Parker, we try and get mates together and Parker sounds like he may need some transitioning from wa.

Yeah, that's why I was asking before about a spare rookie spot. I think Marlion would've been a great bloke to draft in. Still, we have a few boys to get around Parker, and we're clearly backing ourselves in to give him the best chance, so here's hoping all goes well.
