Because the pies are re-building and they need to play their youngsters. From what I've seen and read he's pretty talented. Obviously he'll get dropped if he doesn't play well but I reckon there is less risk with a second year player.
We are rebuilding? Oh how I wish that was true, I wish it started a few years ago. Unfortunately we're not rebuilding, we're playing to win the Premiership.

Brown is no lock to play at all. I certainly wouldn't pay over $200k for a player who isn't best 22

Elliott and Wells will be ready to come back in round 2 or 3
De Goey could be ready to play as early as round 2
Fasolo will play VFL to regain fitness, but again, round 2 or 3 a possibility

Our injury history says there's a good chance he stays in, but for that price and the position he's going to play, big nope for me

Where are the Dees supporters?

I'm reading Fritz is no certainty for Rd1. Basically competing with Bugg and Hannan for a spot

Apparently we've got this thing now called... "depends"? No... "depth", that was it! I'm not entirely sure what that is, but I think it means that Hannan, Bugg and Fritzl probably need to fit into one place in the 22 if TMac, Harmes and ANB are fit. It also means that he won't be persisted with if he's not pulling his weight.

I rate him too but don't have the faith that Buckley can understand the concept of rebuild
Hard to go down the rebuild road when the coaches job security is poor. Do that, have some losses and very quickly all and sundry will be calling for Buckley's head again. He'll coach for the moment not the future. Self preservation always wins out.

I was using the "rebuilding" term to be diplomatic. I originally wrote "Because Collingwood are shit" but thought better of it. :)

Does anyone know the latest on Garletts jlt injury, Is he going to be right for round 1? i crossed him off the list until Picketts injury but he could be a decent option up fwd assuming he should play.

Was nothing major and apparently a rest in jlt 2. Fairly likely to play and keep his spot. Doubt he sets the world on fire though

Exactly job security is the most important thing when selecting a rookie.. Rayner will be given the first 10 games, even if he is not getting a kick.. Where someone like Gyan Miers might play round 1 is cheap have 2 scores of 60 and then get dropped and not be seen until round 15.. and you are stuck with him on your bench knowing he will go up in value when next selected. IMO with your round 1 team your better off picking the players with job security even if you have to pay a little extra, and the cheap rookie come to play when doing your first lot of downgrades.

My luggage was in and out all season being rested, brissy tend to do it a bit

I can't see this being Fagan's approach ......he'll be aware of not destroying the kids confidence, if he isn't getting a kick ......a lot of coaches play rookies in blocks of 3-4 games, gives both the mind & body some recovery .....remember AFL is brutal & diff to U18
Played at Sandy Bay when Fagan coached there. He's a campaigner, that's for sure! Do not trust him one bit.

He dropped you ? :p

Me too, but sadly we're in the minority ......most patrons have been conditioned to buy tickets on-line, have a bite to eat outside or rock up late

In Adelaide, where we have a team in the SANFL, your membership entitles you to free entry ....still no-one goes

There'll have to be a huge Marketing push to change what they've conditioned the public, as far as their pre-match routines
Also drop the ****ing prices on food and beer.

The whole idea of rookies is to make cash. A 117k rook averaging 60 will make more cash than a 200k rook averaging 70. If you have confidence that Rayner will average around 80 then it's probably worth the punt, but there aren't too many rooks that average that high in their first season, regardless of their draft position.

No issues with high priced rookies, but if you have too many then you are reducing the number of premium players you can start with. Brayshaw is the only high priced rookie I am starting with this year.

Not entirely true.
You want cash but also points.
A 117k will average 60 and likely not play each week.
A 200k will average 70 and likely play each week.

Magic number is approximately 5.5k per point this season, so you are paying a slight premium initially, but getting more points and likely more cash generation unless your 117k option plays every week.

If even Fritzl is in doubt of making it out on the park in Rd. 1 then I will probably go Rayner.

Ryan could easily be replaced by Rioli if he doesn't perform.
Venables could be out for Ah Chee when he's back.

I'm pretty confident in the WCE rookies, but still... Rayner just seems a better option.

Nah, I was only a borderline senior player. Played mostly ressies. Just not my sort of coach, rated Andy Bennett far better personally.

Forward rookies are so bad they make Rayner look like rookie Barlow.
