Been to a bit of training worried a little with Tom Barrass he looks too big and lost too much agility.
Reminds me of Ashley Hansen turning circle.
Hope he can trim down a little

I can't view the article, but WTF? He only just started.

So in the space of 24 hours Jones has gone from potentially playing against Essendon to no longer training with us

Either the club is giving out decidedly mixed signals or journos are just making shit up

Doubt we’ll ever get an explanation but it’s curious that Jones didn’t last 2 weeks despite showing encouraging signs according to media reports of the intraclub

Jamaine Jones’ training with West Coast comes to an end with Bailey Williams and Jarrod Brander to feature in pre-season match

West Coast fans are set to get a look at Bailey Williams as a ruck/forward option and Jarrod Brander as a midfielder, but they will not see former Geelong forward Jamaine Jones when the Eagles take on Essendon at Mineral Resources Park on Thursday night.

Eagles football manager Craig Vozzo said Jones remained in contention to be offered one of what will be at least one and possibly two spots on the club’s list before March 13 but the 21-year-old’s training stint at the club was coming to an end.

Vozzo said Williams would be one of what could be as many as three ruckmen to play against Essendon.

Brander would also play and would split his time between attack and the midfield.

The Eagles had the option of playing Jones against the Bombers but had decided not to, Vozzo said.

“We will probably finish up his training with us this week unless the coaches decide they want to see a little more of him,” Vozzo said.

“We have watched him play for Geelong and the reason for bringing him over was that we wanted to also get to know him as a person,” Vozzo said.

Jones and West Coast’s 2019 top up WAFL player Nic Reid look like the frontrunners for a contract. Reid has just re-joined the main group at training after spending the summer nursing a shoulder reconstruction.

Meanwhile the Eagles expect Oscar Allen to build fitness quickly after a summer of injury including a hernia late last year followed by an ankle sprain in the past two weeks.

Vozzo said Allen, who walked laps at training on Monday, had “turned the corner” and the ankle injury had not been serious.

He expected him to be building fitness rapidly by the time the Eagles take on Fremantle in their second Marsh Community Series match on March 7 at Joondalup.

He was likely to play some minutes in the WAFL curtain raiser against Peel before the main game.

Does that mean they didn’t like him as a person??

I actually think it means we were keen on him, and wanted to suss him out. Good signs IMO.

Have only ever heard very good things about him personally.

He has a really inspiring personal story and was nominated for the AFL Jim Stynes community leadership award, which is pretty special considering he isn't particularly well known in footy circles.

I am sponsorless this season, so I am going to nominate my own sponsor week to week and praise myself endlessly for their performances

I really hope we manage to manage take a mid season draft pick. It would allow us to jump the queue on any break out mature agers who could or would go in the 2nd or 3rd round in the National draft.

It seems like such an easy way to generate a decent draft pick.

Or pick up a younger person who previously nominated for draft who has now filled out, unskilled, matured etc who is now ready to be picked up.

Went early, overlooked, grown and now ready.

if they were neck and neck, why would we take a guy that has just had a shoulder reconstruction?

Maybe we are just waiting to see if any other injuries happen in the Marsh Series before deciding.

I have a feeling he was told to bulk up to play on the Gorilla forwards. Barrass and Gov played too similar last year as the intercept defender's and would always get pushed out of the contest by bigger forwards. We have Shep who also is an excellent intercept defender.

I always thought this sponsorship thing was the dumbest idea ever conceived, but for some bizarre reason everyone falls over themselves each year to get a player.
But if it is so you receive the glory and praise for their performances, well, now it all makes sense!

So tagline indicates he’s already finished when he’s still training until the end of the week as was always going to be the case. Means he was never likely to be playing against Essendon and suggestions that he would be were just media noise

Good news re Allen that his ankle injury was just a garden variety sprain and nothing overly serious

West Coast Eagles

Callum Jamieson (NAB AFL Draft, No.49 overall)
A raw, mobile ruckman, Jamieson was held out of the Eagles' second intraclub and had his loads managed for a week. He is back in full training and learning his craft from Nic Naitanui and co.

Ben Johnson (NAB AFL Draft, No.58 overall)
A small defender with speed and a penetrating right boot, Johnson has backed himself in training to bite off dangerous kicks coming out of defence. There is a view he is already one of the best kicks at the club. Uninterrupted summer.

Anthony Treacy (NAB AFL Rookie Draft, No.10 overall)
A mature-age recruit from Claremont, Treacy played in the Eagles' second intraclub and showed a commitment to chasing and tackling as a small forward. In the pack of small forwards competing for Marsh Community Series exposure.

Mitch O'Neill (NAB AFL Rookie Draft, No.20 overall)
The Tasmanian has had a good first pre-season, racking up possessions in the Eagles' first intraclub. A good ball-user but slightly built, he needs time in the gym before competing for selection.

Who could play in round one?
Treacy is the only new Eagle who looks physically ready to play at the top level and he could earn a Marsh Community Series game as the match committee looks at its small forward options. It would take a bolt from the blue for the others to earn round one selection given they will also be competing with a strong list that has minimal injury issues. – Nathan Schmook

Good summary. I’m liking this Nathan Schmook guy on the AFL website so far

I'm glad its clicked mate :)

Wait until you choose a player who doesn't actually exist yet, very meta.

After Ryan was involved in the holy trinity play I was satisfied if he did nothing else in his career that would be enough. Then he stuck his boots in Gawns face (and made him piss) for mark of the year and I thought f**k its going to be nice watching this for the next 10 years.
Only thing that worries me about Flyin' is his small boney frame and being targeted...
Jones induction slipped under my radar, looks like a Kerr type, could be something? Soon know..
