What do we want or expect?

The only certainties are two Showdowns and St. Kilda in China in early June

We finished 10th, meaning we'll be in the middle tier, along with the other teams who've finished 7th to 12th: Sydney, Geelong, North Melbourne, Essendon and Adelaide, we'll face at least two of these teams twice next year, safe assumption one of them is Adelaide, meaning two Showdowns.

We also play at least one but no more than two return matches against top-six clubs: Richmond, West Coast, Collingwood, Hawthorn, Melbourne and GWS

And also one and no more than two return matches against bottom-six clubs: Fremantle, the Western Bulldogs, St Kilda, Gold Coast, Brisbane and Carlton.

It's Adelaide's turn to host a R1 fixture, and the first Showdown. So it'll most likely be an away game in R1.

Anzac Day is on a Thursday next year, hopefully we'll have the Friday night fixture the night after, against a decent pulling team like Carlton, Geelong, Richmond or Hawthorn, and hopefully we still host Anzac Day because the Crows were trying to make overtures to host it

The only fixture anomalies for Port are that we haven't played St. Kilda in Melbourne since 2013, and that's not happening next year because China, but there's also that we haven't played GWS at Spotless Stadium since 2013, Gold Coast at Cararra since 2016, Richmond away since 2016 and Sydney at home since 2015. Apart from that, we've played every other team home and away in the past two years.

With the pre-season fixture, I think we can safely assume be the event nobody asked for, AFLX, will be in either Perth - probably at NIB Stadium or in Brisbane at Suncorp Stadium or Ballymore, then a game here in Adelaide (out of Norwood Oval, Thebarton Oval, Unley Oval or Richmond Oval, or hopefully Alberton Oval again) or at least in South Australia and probably a game in Western Australia, hopefully it's three proper pre-season games and no pre-season Showdown.

I reckon we'll play West Coast twice. The AFL would have been keen to build a mini-rivalry after the 2017 EF and they had another chapter installed in Round 21 this year.

We're "due" to play Sydney at home and GWS at Spotless, and we'll probably play Gold Coast at Metricon to make up for them going to Shanghai when they obviously didn't want to.

My wants are Ballarat trip v3 because that's like our home away from home now and many might disagree with me but I want Geelong twice! 2 chances to beat them are better than 1.

Sunday twilight games, a Thursday night game that isn't in school holidays or before a public holiday. Saturday afternoon games against the likes of Fremantle, St. Kilda, Brisbane and GWS. Basically we're getting the shit left at the bottom of the bucket for what time slots and who we play.

I expect we'll also get the joy of starting the season with 4 of our first 6 games away, one of them a 'neutral' away showdown (as if we ever win those at AO!), with 3 of those 6 against top 8 sides.

We are getting screwed more than a $5 hooker after the favourite wins the Melbourne cup.

We have a rivalry with West Coast in the same way the Washington Generals have a rivalry with the Harlem Globetrotters. Ideally we'll play them zero times.

We'll get Geelong double up for sure.
And West Coast
And Adelaide (duh)
And two new teams to make us their bunnies
Geelong, West Coast, Adelaide. Carlton in Melbourne. Freo in WA after this years debacle is almost a lock. We won’t get Sydney at the SCG after 2 from 2 the last two years.

We're going to be dropped like a hot potato from the few prime time fixtures we had. I'd expect a fair bit of Sunday action.

Adelaide, Geelong, North Melbourne, West Coast and Brisbane double ups.

Expect us to get shunted to some shithouse venues. Now we aren't bringing them to China, I'd fully expect us to get one of the Gold Coast games in Cairns or some other Queensland regional venue that they are playing at. We might at least lose the trip to Ballarat because we've won there twice at least though. Something like an away fixture of Perth x2 (one straight after China probably), Brisbane, regional QLD, Canberra, Hobart, Geelong, Etihad and the obligatory MCG appearance.

We'll get one primetime game, a Thursday one in the middle of winter / school term against a Bulldogs or similar, and peoppe will call for tarps.

That'll do

What I want:

Only play eagles (away), freo (home) & carlton (home) once.
Two games against the cats, I would prefer to host them late in a season for once.
Two games against Norf, been a long time since that happened
Home game against the $wan$
Home showdown on a Friday or Saturday night (latter on national FTA if we don’t get the Friday game)
If we play in Ballarat, then it should be within the first 8 rounds & not in the middle of winter
At least 2 games at the MCG

What I do not want:
‘Home’ game against the eagles, freo away (only one win against freo in Perth in the last 10 years), cats at home before round 11
Again no 12:40pm Sunday home games
No Sunday showdowns
No more than one Thursday night home game, & not in winter
No more than 3 weeks between home games, unlike the last 2 seasons. A home game either side of the China game would be ideal

We will be playing our Shanghai game in June, closer to the regular bye

We will get a 5 day break Thursday night game. The AFL have got approval from the PA to have more Thursday night games and therefore 5 day breaks. We will get one, probably away from home.

Will be interesting to see if there are more than 8 Thursday night games if 7 will pay extra to get to broadcast those extra games or if they stay with Fix Footy.

we are the Twillight kings - last year was a bloody farce

Let's see how much I understand the "logic" behind the AFL Port's fixture:

MCG: Melbourne, Carlton
Marvel: Essendon
Shanghai: St. Kilda
Ballarat: Footscray
Optus: Freo, West Coast
Cairns: Gold Coast
Kardinia: Geelong
Launceston: Hawthorn
AO: West Lakes
---
Home games: Adelaide, Footscray, Geelong, Melbourne, West Coast (doubles), Sydney, GWS, North, Brisbane, Richmond, Collingwood.
