McKay not be a top 3 in this draft? He'd certainly be a top three.....Certainly.
Petrevski-Seton would likely be for the right club, as would Weitering now.

The problem often is though, that the clubs that would happily hand those sorts of picks over, aren't in the position to be able to do so, unless they can somehow trade/buy themselves into the market.
A top 3 pick would be fair value for plenty of players but the market determines value, and clubs simply don't let those picks go for anything other than star quality - what examples are there of a player like SPS or Weitering fetching a top 3 pick?

I did suggest McKay may fetch that in a weaker draft but do you think he would have last year? Ahead of Lukosius? Doubt it. SPS ahead of Walsh or Rankine? No chance.

Maybe not at the time but after last weeks game and hopefully continual improvement this year, absolutely.

Don't know if this is worth discussing though.

I can’t see any reasonable player worth a Top 5 Pick looking to come to us, unless there is dramatic improvement in the second half of the year and we exceed expectations. A Lachie Neale type situation would be fantastic.

I don’t think the club will be too fussed to bank the draft picks if there are no reasonable targets available, as much as we’d prefer an experienced player.

Might actually be more beneficial to bring in someone like Brad Crouch or Whitfield next year when we don’t have to sacrifice a draft pick. We’re still deficient in a number of areas, and bringing in a player with X-factor (ala Rozee last year at Pick 5) would be a more prudent move with our list demographic.

There are some schools of thought that we can get gun pressure forwards with later picks, but we’d love Jaiden Stephenson or Conor Rozee in our forwardline at the moment - both went for top-end picks.

Maybe not last year given the output expressed to that point in time, but what's the point of discussing last year or the year before?

If the question is; "Would we get a top 3 pick for McKay this year?" the answer would most likely be a yes.
Which team floundering at the bottom of the ladder wouldn't want a KPF that has already shown what he's capable of in the big time?

Re. SPS & Weitering?
Like I said, if a Geelong, Adelaide, Richmond (Top Team) had the ability to get their hands on a pick in the top three, would they sooner take a young proven player or just go the draft and adopt a 'We'll see what happens?' approach in this draft?

O.K. so we can't be absolute either way, but this seems somewhat logical to me.

Honestly think only Cripps, Walsh and Charlie would definitely fetch that. McKay is approaching that level and a few clubs may already take the punt, but I'd be surprised.

Weiters might also, but probably only if it was a weaker draft or the team were in a strong need for a young back. He wouldn't have fetched that in last year's draft for instance.

The others are no chance, realistically a top 3 draft pick will only go for an established star (Cripps), a prospect to get fans through the gate (Charlie) or an outlier situation (Weller).

Think you're massively over rating draft picks.

Out for the season isn't he?This is a weird joke.

Cant say there has been many updates with how Pickett is progressing with his patella injury, earlier reports mentioned a 6month recovery period provided there's no setbacks and it all going along well, the collision that caused it happened around mid December so hopefully mid June he could be right to resume...

Last year's super draft is an uncommon feat.

I'm a big fan on Pickett he possess traits that certainly could break a game open with speed and Xfactor provided his injury doesn't give him any ongoing trouble, I'm very confident Russell can build him up for the back half of the season, if he can get his s**t together he can tear it up down forward with Harry Charlie Mitch Cunners🤤
Thought we trialled him as a small forward and he had 0 goal sense? Why do people keep suggesting him as a small forward?

Agreed. I'd love to see him have a crack as an aggressive, rebounding defender. He could seriously cut teams up and provide real drive with his run and carry.

Showed a fair bit against Sydney SCG 2017 looked really dangerous as a forward kicking four goals in a pretty average side at the time, hasn't had a good enough run at it due to injuries, there's probably not enough body of work by him so far to suggest his a natural small forward yet but i think he's worth having a good look down there more than any other players we have on our list, imo he could cause some headaches down there with Harry Curnow McGovern Cuningham ...also he tackles and pressures to keep the ball in extremely well...

Actually have thought that too PC he has serious speed, good one on one & solid overhead mark for his size, hard to get around & good tackler, takes the game on with run and carry and instinctive, well worth a try down back as well...

I love Libba. Plays with mongral. The fact you hate him means you would love him in our colors. Talent for days
Uhh, no. He's got talent, he's also got a shit character and is a shitty influence. I actually don't want him anywhere near the club.

100% def is scary quick but not mercurial. Average goal sense from what I’ve seen.

He’s a wingman or Hff.

Hopefully an elite one

Let’s be happy and rejoice in the fact that we have a list manager with lots of skin in the game. Carlton is in his blood, his boys have a locker to call their own, nobody wants to succeed more than him not even Bolton. I saw Sos in the rooms after the game and as hard as he tried he couldn’t hide the pride,it wa all over his face and body language. He quietly poked his head out of the meeting room to watch the boys sing the song,he was pumped in that quiet sos sort of way.
He’s killed every draft and with little ammunition,Hendo, Zac,Gibbs,Bell, Menzel,Yarran were all he had to deal with and look what he’s turned it into.
How would you like to be * Parish and Francis from the 2015 draft with picks 5&6 when Sos lands Harry and Charlie with picks 10&12.....this is history making stuff think Tambling & Deledio v Roughead and Buddy.
He won’t get them all right but fmd he’s a triple Brownlow medallist of trading.

On current form, Cripps, Walsh, McKay, Curnow, Weitering and SPS are worth two first round picks, one being a top 5 pick.
We are staaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaacked with talent.

On this years form Charlie would struggle to nab us a third round pick.

Even better, he was also in the NB's rooms the day before to watch the boys sing the song after the win against the Woods, with the same look of pride. You can see that familiar figure in the white tshirt and a huge grin behind the boys singing the song with gusto.

He's a gem :carlton:

He's done an outstanding job.

Has received a lot of unjustified criticism because of an impatient supporter base and reporters looking for a headline.

If I was the GM of List Management, these are the targets I would be heavily pursuing during the trade period in order of preference:

  • Josh Kelly – Goes without saying, he’s an absolute Rolls Royce who would walk into any starting midfield and instantly make it better. Would cost us Adelaide’s first pick (projected to be around Pick #8) and our 2020 first pick at a minimum.

  • Steve Coniglio – See above, the added bonus is that he’s a Free Agent so there may be a slight trade discount on offer if you can blow GWS’s budget out of the market with a monster front loaded offer. Would happily pay Adelaide’s first pick if GWS did find a way to match our offer financially.

  • Lachie Whitfield – I have a feeling that we are grooming Liam Stocker to become a half back flank that rolls through the midfield, if my instincts are correct, we’ll need a midfielder that can swap out with him in game so that we total coverage when it comes to run, carry and sublime disposal off HBF. The best part about this plot is that Stocker and Whitfield are different types of players off HBF and in the middle so it also adds a bit of versatility. He’s a free agent at the end of next year; so GWS may be inclined to let him go a year earlier in order to maximise their return. I’d happy pay Adelaide’s first pick (and some change).

  • Jack Viney – One from left field and may be a bit of a long shot but I don’t think he would be all too happy with what’s taking place at the Demons currently. Even though there’s a family connection with the club, if we came in with a bigger financial offer than Melbourne (who you would imagine would have a tighter cap given all of their bigger signings as of late) and also coupled with the fact that he’s in a similar boat to Whitfield in that he’s a free agent in 2020 and the Dee’s may want to maximise their return. He’s 25 years old, quick, tenacious, leadership qualities – just what the doctor ordered for our inexperienced midfield. Would pay Adelaide’s first round pick.

Liam Stocker will be our version of Jack Viney with a much better kick.

I know he's playing in defense at the moment, but I don't think SOS made that trade to pick Stocker as a half back. He'll push into the centre as he gains more experience.
