If we get Luko he will spend 12 mths in the sanfl anyway, he’s better off developing at the Suns
Doubt it .....started off like a stale bottle of piss .....but has got better with every game & is racking up good disposal numbers now

Given Luko wouldn’t only really fit into our defence for a couple of years til Walker & Lynch are gone, surely (hopefully!) the only way we’re letting Keath go is if we land Luko.
What about lynch Jenkins greewwood to gold coast? For Luko? Actual quality senior players unlike all the other hacks they have picked up?

Well yes please from my perspective, can’t see it happening though.

My preference is to trade those three out even without involving Luko as we need to free up our forward line to ensure Fogarty plays every week.

Is that seriously the 2 good news stories? We have lost the plot if so
Why? Because it’s different? It’s an achievement for the CLUB. They are at least thinking out of the box off the field. Now we just want them to do it ON field as well.

How can you not see as a club if we do innovative in those areas we have completely wrong priorities?

It's more the timing.

That's not the kind of announcement we want to hear when our season has gone into free fall.

Don't get this thinking. The fact that we innovate in other areas doesn't mean that we shouldn't and can't be innovative and successful on field at the same time. They're not mutually exclusive. If anything the innovation can and should support and enable the on field stuff (even if only financial).

That we don't do these things in parallel is the issue.

Didn't he say it would be something fans would be truly excited about or something? This aware is no doubt nice for him and his team, but to fans it means SFA when we're clearly struggling onfield. If Fagan thinks the fans would truly give 2 f'n hoots about this then he's further removed from the average punter than I thought.

The other thing is these awards often tend to rely on companies applying for them, or being nominated by someone. Who was our actual competition? Were we actually going up against other football clubs?

At the moment I don't mind Fagan as our CEO doing these things, our club has become more than just the AFL side and probably need a CEO who is capable of managing the business as a whole. The trouble is he knows very little about football and thus I think he tends to rely a lot on those around him. Under Noble this was fine, Noble was a very solid operator capable of keeping things in check. Unfortunately we've moved onto Burton as a very inexperienced Head of Football and thus I think we've now got Roo and Pyke having to pick up the pieces where perhaps they shouldn't have to and the whole place has become a mess.

With Fagan as CEO we need to be investing in a highly experienced and capable head of football. Pyke is probably quite qualified to do this, but can't really be head coach at the same time. I think we've tried to help this by promoting Campo into "senior assistant" however he's also not really the guy for the job. Roo's the guy you want almost sitting on the sidelines and using purely as a "break glass in case of emergency" type. He's become too involved in the day to day and has installed all his mates into key positions. He's to close to do what he's meant to do as Director of Football, he's also got a gazillion other things on the go like Breakfast radio, commentary, pubs to manage, 6 kids...

I pay my Membership $$$ to see the club win Premierships, not so as they can win ‘Innovation Awards’ in the Corporate field.

Problem is Fagan and co. will be judged by other non-football people (board etc.) as having done a great job through this recognition.

As has been mentioned, this sums up the entire culture of the club, which is why I won’t be renewing my Membership next year.

Anyone heard Bickley lately? For a bloke who is usually the most sycophantic Crows apologist, he has said we need to retire Betts, Douglas, Jacobs, Otten and his lovechild Mackay, and offload Jenkins, Greenwood and others for picks.

He never speaks like that. Wouldn't surprise me if he's been tasked with helping to lay the public messaging for what's to come.
It’s interesting because lately he’s said things like we’ve managed the list poorly and haven’t turned enough players over, yet he’s been the one to suggest we immediately bring back in DMack or Sauce whenever they’ve been out.

Nailed it. Club is truly in the business for the wrong reasons it appears.

Because who gives a ****. I only care what impacts their on field results, poxy accolades that have no bearing on that is just a wankfest

Seriously though, do we know if this is the good news he was spruking? Surely he can’t be far removed from reality that he thinks supporters give a shit about these shit.

There's not much point in being innovative in the financial sense when the club seems to be totally unwilling to open the cheque book when it comes to staffing the football department.

In this particular case I think we would have to offer a scenario that Gold Coast can sell on to their fans without appearing humiliated. Also, waiting another year leaves the door open for port to enter the conversation.

Greenwood is no critical loss to us and cost us nothing but would sweeten the deal significantly.

Why should we care how they sell it to their fan? Pick 3 in a draft where it looks to be a strong top 5 is a good deal

I think we're probably seeing a case of Bicks media persona getting pulled in 3 different directions:
1) His role on the show to be the "balanced, reasonable" voice to counter the "rah, rah, rah" of Rowe
2) His role as ambassador to the club and trying to toe the company line
3) His own independent thought (I suspect he does have them...)

Because you guys are the first to complain when the bottom line is looking shitty. Actually who am I kidding. I should have just left it as “You guys are the first to complain....”. That would have summed you up in an instant.

Now THIS i’d Agree with - to an extent. Opening the chequebook when it comes to staffing the football department comes at a very high cost. 100% tax. So for every dollar we spend over the amount allocated, it will cost us $2. This is nothing to be waived away whimsically. You can’t just say “ah, **** it, let’s just spend 3 million” on the footy department on top of the soft cap, and all of a sudden that becomes 6 million. What I would like to know is, IF we are up to the soft cap, and therefore our hands are tied - are we getting the bang for our buck? It seems to me money has been spent on Pyke (fair enough, head coach). And this year on Steve Saunders - a professional medico who wouldn’t come cheaply. Of course that leaves us with the likes of Burton, Camporeale, Hart, Godden and Mattner. Not exactly confidence building in terms of elite assistants are they? So while these innovative off field things may seem daft to many, they could be what allows us to increase our spend in the football department. But it takes time to build these things up. We don’t have the pokies to top up our cash flow, so we HAVE to think outside the box.

Actually what you should have just said is:

“I’m an overbearing pain in the arse and YOU GUYS are naughty”

Honestly the only one I seeing being overbearing is you. Do you ever read the shit you write? You clearly don’t. I think you should send yourself a very stern post!
