I really don't understand the Jizz fest over Brodie Smith

Perhaps go and watch some Adelaide games. He would immediately be the quickest player in our back line and has a huge kick. Can play wing as well. We badly need someone who can give us run out of defence.

If the talk is true they could get Ellis, Brad Crouch and Greenwood. Would be a very hand start to their rebuild if it happens.

Have always been indifferent towards Gold Coast but if they can pull this off I will definitely be taking an interest in them. Seem to be turning things around, just need the experience.

Where does he play at the Adelaide. I saw the highlights and he looked like he was kicking a lot of goals. Does he play HB? and if so, does he actually run it out of defence on a regular basis?

I think one of Smith’s strengths is his versatility. Can play a strong role off half back, wing or half forward.

The Melbourne Storm have been a successful club for a long time because they have been able to get good, not great players, and give them a role to play within their abilities. This has made them better players and the team much stronger. We have in place now a great coaching team and an enviable medical and conditioning dept, im sure their due dilligence with regards to any incoming player, whatever their ability level, will be thorough. Whether we like a player or not thats been linked to us, im sure the club won't take them if they cant play a role or strengthen our team. Im confident in that.

He still had to be paid the same amount as he would have got in his original contract under the delisting/re-rookieing. I have no idea what he was on but the delisting wouldn't have changed his salary.
Yep...I either dreamt this or read at the time that only half of the salary paid by a club to players on the rookie list counts towards the salary cap.

Used to be the case. They've changed it a few times over the years. Now it's about $60k (based off a third round draftee IIRC) that's outside the cap.

Cheers...I haven't got an update but based it from June 2017 that had read ages ago..

Have you got an update you can direct me to?

10.15 (c) Payments and Total Player Payments (i) A Rookie Player nominated by an eligible Club under this Rule 10.15 must be paid no less than the amounts determined by the AFL and AFLPA. 67 (ii) Half of the Football Payments in respect of a Rookie Player nominated under this Rule shall be excluded from the Club's Total Player Payments.

It all got changed in the most recent CBA with the modifications to the rookie list, e.g. no longer needing promotions for Cat A, etc.

Clause 16 (b):
Any amount paid to a Rookie Player in excess of the base payment payable to a 1st year, 41+ choice selection shall be included in the relevant AFL Club’s Total Player Payments. For the avoidance of doubt, the minimum base payment payable to a 1st year, 41+ choice selection shall be excluded in the relevant AFL Club’s Total Player Payments for each Rookie Player.

You can see what you're referencing directly above that, under Clause 15, where they grandfathered in the old rules for a year (2017) before moving to the new system.

Thanks mate...Edit: For some reason can't load the CBA

Not sure Greenwood would be that much of a boost, coming off an ACL and hitting the 30...Could be wrong though.

Picks and cap space to burn, I can see some clubs making out like bandits this off season. One of them will be the tigers and their compensation for Ellis.
Ellis will only be a second round compo surely?

Can’t remember Greenwood having ever done an ACL.
Brodie Smith did a couple of years ago, just before their Grand Final I believe?

You’re wrong cos you have the wrong Greenwood.

Ah right. Yeah, that other one might be alright. For some reason I always think the other Greenwood. Too many Greenwoods.
