Don't mean to be negative "lioninthesand" but I would like to know what makes you think/hope that McStay is capable of kicking 40 goals next year?
He's played 103 games, kicked 74 goals in total, kicked 21 goals in total this year and will be 25 years old next season/in his 7th year of AFL footy.
I just don't see it happening at all but am open to hearing why you think he might be able to.

I like McStay.. but I am not confident enough he can either and we can't win a flag without a 40 goal a season power forward.. hence why I think (if cheap) JJ is the perfect option for a couple of years. Hipwood is different, he is versatile.. less pressure on him to be the hulking forward.

We need Zorkos pace and pressure around the footy more.

Perhaps we do. I see Zorko playing a for bit more up forward next season. His pressure in the forward 50 would also be immense.

I'd be very surprised if we bring in any key position players. As we saw yesterday the tigers can make key forwards and backs look second rate if your ball use and defensive pressure is poor. If the talk is real about Laird and ah chee I think that would be a good trade period. Get another preseason into all our young players (2nd youngest afl list in 2019) there will be more improvement across the field and fingers crossed we have a similar season with injuries.

Whilst using the best key position players in the comp to do it.

We have been linked to, after CEY for years. Great pick up - 4 years is more than other teams would offer but who cares.. we add MUCH need mid depth. Makes life hard for Matho.

I was really disappointed that we didn’t land Wallis last year, but Jarrod Lyons made up for that!

I was never convinced he was going to sign with us...It was a ruse to up his contract...Behind the scenes had sold his apartment in Port Melbourne that he had just finished renovating and had purchased a house in Albert Park that he was starting to renovate..The area that he purchased in Albert Park houses just don't come up that often..

Does seem a bit much. Hopefully it’s actually 3 plus an option/trigger rather than 4 straight up.

Agree with this even if it's a simple trigger. I can't see us trading in players unless we have a specific role / need that we think they can fill and be starting 22 most weeks. We have no need to fill holes in the NEAFL team. Clearly the recruiting team think Ah Chee & CEY have a solid future and a lot of upside at the Lions. Can't wait to see if we have more trade targets.

Only taken 5 years of rumours on this board to finally nab him. Now maybe this will be the year that we finally nab Jayden Post :straining:

May be posted elsewhere but Ch7 reporting Noble for Crows coaching gig?

I know he recently said he wasn't interested but may have had an offer too good to refuse.

Could very well be a strategy that we are using to land players as well. I don't think we are offering massive coin to get players here, but they get some good security with a nice contract length. TBH, to lure a player up to a non AFL State and out of their current environment you probably need to offer that length, because you don't want to uproot your entire life, move away from family and/or friends (or move them as well) if you are only going to be there a short time then move back. You need to have some length to make that move worth it. With the team performing well and pushing finals, we don't need to over pay players to come, they will come for same money but for success, but the extra year makes the move a lot easier.

I just can't see it happening. I don't think he wants the coaching route, i think he is trying to work his way up the corporate ladder in the Admin side. Think he has ambitions to take over from Swann as CEO more so than he would a coach.

Yeah that's what I've heard too, dream job is high level AFL job apparently. But.. I dunno, there might be a twist about to develop, not beyond the rhelms of what's possible.

If true, that would honestly be one of the more bizarre coaching appointments given where the club is currently at and what they have been through over the last couple of years. Who knows. I'll believe it when it's official, until then I'm calling bulldust.

Yep, plus
, including typically offering no less than three years – Luke Hodge excluded – to incoming recruits.
