Players like Cutler are going to be last things for clubs to worry about.

Yeah clubs have got to trade for extra first round picks to afford him which will take a while. He's worth 4 first round picks minimum if Kelly is worth 3!

Sounds like Cutler isn’t getting a lot of interest but seems set on getting back to Victoria

There was interest from Essendon...But that was before Daniher and Fantasia talk...

Trade period really is quite a boring time of the year isn’t it?
A period that promises so much delivers so little until the last 2 hours atleast.
Clubs appear this year in particular to be keeping things pretty close to their chest.

Sorry, something sounds a bit off about this whole Elliott thing. The guy was reportedly wanting a longer contract than the 2 years the Pies were offering - we tabled a 3 year contract worth more per year, and he still re-signs with Collingwood for just 2 years and less coin anyway?

What was the point? I genuinely wonder how much extra in 'media' bonuses Eddie has agreed to under the table in this case.

I don't think so - players get one chance to exercise (proper) free agency in their career. He is more than within his rights to explore what's on offer with other clubs when that chance arises. sure, he would have liked more than 2 years with the Pies (and may have used 'looking around' to push their hand) but that doesn't mean he wants to pick his life up, leave his mates and move to another state.

He came up, there was a level of interest, he listened to our pitch he apparently made it clear at the time he was leaning toward staying (the club seemed ok with this).. he tossed up how much more 1 year would mean to him and backed himself to get another extension at the Pies in 2 years time.

all of this, 'we got played' etc is way OTT, normal practice in professional sports, something we just arn't used to because we arn't generally a desired destination.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not part of the 'we got played' camp or am salty in any way - I just find it incredibly curious that after all the talk about a player with pretty frequent injury problems wanting a longer contract than his current club is prepared to offer, is given exactly this - a longer contract at a club with arguably the competition's best medical support team, and more coin for each of those years but he still shuns all of this to just go back to his current club for a shorter period. Good on them for getting the deal they wanted, but I'm still highly skeptic about how above board it is.

At least we aren't tied up in a rumour game that plays out over the rest of the trade period, we can be thankful for that.

Personally, I think that Collingwood played his Bluff.
He obviously doesn’t have a very good poker face?

Yeah I see your angle. The Pies probably used 'bigger picture' stuff int heir pitch. Wouldn't be beyond the rhelms of possibility that "A friend of a friends" sports supplement company also gives him a $100K a year endorsement if he stays at the Pies or something like that, through their networks.

But.. I truly just believe he was genuinely interested in what other teams felt like, then spent time away and decided loyalty to his mates and winning a flag with them and staying in Vic, was worth a bit less coin and a shorter contract.

They really have no idea about the gaps in their list do they?

They need an inside midfielder first and foremost, not a lumbering ruckman.
And, I guess a stop gap for Daniher?

Just found something more entertaining than the last two days of the trade period. I thought it would be cruel not to let everyone know this existed as an alternative to the first two days of the busy trade period...

You must have missed the Big Cox news today which I found really stimulating

Someone raised a good point today in class why isn't brisbane pushing to get joe daniher.

Because he wants to go to Sydney and we are even less able to facilitate a trade than Sydney are?

I'm now in the camp that would be very happy with CEY and Ah Chee in and then try and move up into the top 10 of the draft and grab another elite youngster. IMO this draft is better than a lot seem to think, I don't see it as Noah Anderson and Matt Rowell and then a big drop off. There are a few players who would be in the top 10-12 who I think would be fantastic gets for us eg. Brodie Kemp, Sam Flanders, Lachlan Ash.

Ash would be ideal but may not drop far enough, Kemp could be our annual injured slider bargain and Flanders I am really warming to.

Hope you didn't go early. It's just smoke generated by journos with not enough to do.
