Surely the arrival of Birchall only happened because we 100% know that laird (And smith) are off the table? Why get Birchall (so early in trade period) if you think there is any chance of getting laird as an experienced running half back?

Free agency closed on Friday. Had to do it early

This. Reckon there is very little chance of anything happening with Laird this time around. Noble has said it is basically Ah Chee and then we are done from a player perspective.
I reckon the Laird bit is true but don't rule out us doing other trading of players.

Talk on the Sydney board that Harry Cunningham is going to be traded to Brisbane.
Would fit our needs, statistically at least - 26 in Dec, has pace and can play in a variety of positions - including potentially HBF.

If interest in Cunningham is true maybe we were really concerned about depth

Talk by one single poster, just to be clear.

Hasn’t he only just signed a 3 year extension earlier this year, tying him to Sydney until the end of 2022?

Noble said this in either his trade radio or Roar Deal interview.

Talking a pick in the 60’s for Lewy Taylor?
I would be offering him another contract rather than give him up for that.

WTF!?! Taylor is genuinely worth a late second or early, early third in this draft.

Id think 16 and next years first would be enough to get laird, maybe throw in a pick in the 50s or next yrs third or maybe even hinge if they played hard ball. We gave 12 for charlie, also with one year left on his contract. Laird has a deeper resume and been an A grader for a while, worth the extra.

34 is certainly reasonable for ah chee, if we need to throw in next yrs 4th ok. Just get it done.

That leaves us with 21 and those picks in the 50s + what we can get in the likely trades for cutler, n robbo and taylor. Hopefully jag mid second to early third round picks for them. We could then bundle up any combination of picks to hopefully move up. If we could wrangle a late first round, a mid to late 2nd rnd and a few later picks for academy lads, i think we have ended up in a good place.

With laird, cey, ah chee and birch in and still a handy shot in the draft, its a very good result for the club. Certainly a stronger best 22 and depth, capable of holding our current spot on the table if not improving. Sure we go into next yr without a 1st n 4th round draft picks but we never know how 2020 trade period will play out. We may only need a ruckman and a good tall fwd to comlete the team.

If I were the Crows, I’d be saying gagf if 16 and next years first are the offer for Laird.

Seriously, our current 2019 second round pick has more value than next years first round pick.

Cunningham only played in one Swans win this year. His other 8 games were all loses. Would be better depth than Lewy Taylor and would be a win for us if we could trade Taylor for Cunningham. His pace would suit the Gabba. But I doubt there’s much in it for the Swans unless it’s part of a bigger deal involving draft picks.

I'm with Dodongo on Archie, I don't think he is ever going to be a serviceable AFL level ruckman so I wouldn't be averse to trading him out, Cunningham who I thought was older than he is for Archie would be good.

IMO Ballenden, Skinner and Eagles would do just as good a job if not better than Archie if needed in the seniors.

I don’t want to see Taylor go I think he’s worth keeping but at the same time we do have a few small forwards that can play similar roles it would suck to lose him but for more opportunities then eh should go.
-Cutler has never come on like we thought he would he’s got talent but hasn’t shown enough.
-smith goes and we can get a replacement that would be great.
- if rumours of laird being in Brisbane and interested maybe there looking at him for a trade next year see where he is at cause he will still be in prime for 2021 season. Don’t see us trading for him this year

Don’t hold this against me, but with talk of interest in Archie Smith and needing to get a replacement in if he goes out.
Would Mason Cox be an option with Collingwood needing to dump some Salary cap and them shopping him around?

I think the Cunningham and Taylor comparison is one of the better ones I've seen. Both fringe players that struggled to get a game in 2019 and offering what each of the prospective clubs needs. Pace and experience for us and pacey small forward to replace Papley for the Swans. About the same quality level in my view. We shouldn't overrate Lewy because he won a rising star award years ago. Certainly not worth a second rounder in isolation but could be good value in a trade.

Really? We don't seem to be going out of our way to keep him and no one seems to be going out of their way to take him so it seems the league considers him closer to a delisting candidate than a second round pick.

Agreed - Lewy played over 100 games in the previous 5 years up until this season when he was our player of the week in one of his last games for us. Pick in the 60's for Lewy versus paying a pick in the 20s for Ah Chee makes little sense to me - if that was to happen.

The fact that Taylor couldn't get a game in our best performing team should tell us more than how many games he played in the previous five seasons when we were largely rubbish.

I be sad if Taylor goes as well. We had few injuries last year we went back to known players.
Only Hinge and Answerth debut..
Some guys now in 2020 2-4 years in the system with few games. They either push for selection or end 2020 could be out.
No injuries does not help people getting a game earlier then what they should.
Sometimes thrown in is what will do it Answerth did extremely well with his chance

2016 Draft: Cox, Alison and C Lyons.. Rookie: Hinge
2017 Draft: Wooler, Ballenden, Payne and Starcevich
2018 Draft: T Berry, E Smith, Joyce, McFayden Rookie:Fullarton, Madden
