Just read a rumour that Rayner is in discussions with Essendon. Anyone else heard this. Hopefully bullshit

I daresay any rumours around bigger name players only coming out at this stage of the trade period are pretty comprehensively garbage.

I say most big Melb teams would ask the question of all our top players.
St Kilda was honest that they where interested in the other King twin. Even though he re-signed today I say they still interested :)
Does not mean they will get what they want

I think its a bit like Cox and Essendon conversation from last week. Pretty much every club asks about decent players from every club. Doesn't mean there is ever real intention/expectation that they would be traded

Best we can hope for Taylor is 44 with maybe our pick 64 going back to Swans. Values Taylor around 51 (mid 3rd round)
Best we can hope for with Cutler is 33 with pick 55 going back to Bombers. Values Cutler around pick 44. (early 3rd round). I can't see us getting straight 2nd round picks for either of them.
G
Would give us: 16, 21, 33, 34, 44, 52 with the option of still trying to trade up. As well as freeing up 2 list spaces which we need to do for the draft and Big O. Three picks in the 2nd round might make it easier to trade up.
33 or 34 will go for ah chee. It still leaves us with good options going into the draft. Gws may still make a late play for n robbo, late 3rd there at best i think. Someone may take a liking for archie smith for a throw away late pick. Although i think we need one more year out of him. Should martin go down he can still play a role as relief to big O, play 30% ruck time.

We have sured up the midfield, grown and developed our back 6 this year and last. I think end of next year we will overhaul our ruck and tall fwd stocks. Martin only signing a one yr extension, make or break year for archie.

Have we traded away any of next years draft picks?

This says we are looking for a 2nd round pick.

Yep, positional bargaining. We start by asking for a second round pick and they start by offering 4th round (63). Hopefully we can get them to agree to something in the middle. 44 would be a good deal for us, but it could easily be 54. Given he hardly played in the seniors all year, we're not in a strong position.

Oh, and I'll be in hospital the next cpl of days, just a grease n oil change, and may not be able to contribute. I will however be keenly watching news feeds. Would still love to pick up a sm/med defender this trade period, just saying. Doesnt have to be an A grader but a moneyball player like previously mentioned harry cunningham or phillips from the pies if they have to shave salary cap. 2 days left, anything can happen.

Just a reminder that I'll post any Lions-related news stories when I see them in the Trade News Compendium thread.

Edit: Ignore the fact that I left the word "news" out of the thread title for a month and a half.

It's possible we might get one, but it depends what we want to send back to the Swans. It's also possible we may send them 2020 picks because of their two academy players next year.

Can you elaborate why our tall fwd stocks will need an overhaul at the end of next year?

Hawthorn will be after a ruck replacement for Pittonet. Maybe Archie? They look like going with Ceglar as the main ruck and Big Boy down back.

Unless if we're planning on drafting Jackson I'm not sure we'll be keen to trade Smith.

I see he's got another bout of 'homesickness'

I don't recall aish was ever about homesickness.

Maybe more a case of a young kid who has had his wheels pumped up a little too much or too many times that wanted to play for the biggest club in the land.

I see, that worked out well for him.

Didn't he initially advise the club he wanted to leave because he was 'homesick'.

He then ended up at Collingwood.

Ah yup. Bigfooty post must be true.

Well in all fairness, he did play in a GF side that only lost by 5 points and also in a Prelim that could have gone either way. His departure gave me the shites at the time but I wish him no ill-will.
I more meant that, he is now being pushed out the door at first opportunity.

Gee this trade period is really hotting up.
