When all's said and done no side is going to improve dramatically if at all off this trade period . I can see the Eagles with Kelly don't go backwards but a couple of their better guys are on the slide and it's not as if they don't have good players already in the slot he'll fill . But yes he's probably better ,adds depth.

Pick trading is still open. I imagine we'll probably still be looking to either bundle up some picks or move them into the future as I doubt we'll be delisting seven senior players.

No doubt we will end up bundling a couple
Up. If blues want Martin they have backed themselves into a corner and desperately need to split 9 now. But they where offered Martin and 15 for 9 and declined it. If using our 16 & 21 as a comparator that would place Martin at around 21, which would have been reasonable. Blues said no. Which I guess rules us out as an option to split 9.

Blues might turn to Sam Gray as a delisted free agent to fill their small forward need now.

On trade radio their list boss said '5 was never on the table'. Dodoro said they offered 9 (that they knew they could get for Paperly) and a future first.

Anyway, even if they did, 5 and 25 is a joke.

Time will tell I guess. I actually think Joe's body might be cooked. Would explain why the Swans didn't put up that much for him & also explains why the Bombres haven't moved heaven & hell to resign him. Hope not for his sake.

They have missed out on 2 players through trade.
So they may want to split the picks to take them to the draft now.
They can atleast get 2 reasonably early picks in.
Because at the moment they have played themselves out of the trade and draft (other than 9 of course).

I can see why you want to keep your top picks if you can get a Sam Walsh or whatever but really history shows that from 5- 45 it's just a roulette wheel and often the better players end up being lower in the draft.

Especially now with contracts having less durability. You need a number of picks to have the flexibilty to target guys you identify with the potential but having a lot of high picks guarantees nothing.

We got Answerth at what ,55 .

Honestly don’t know how the Jack Martin thing will play out in the draft.

What odds would people put on him being at Carlton vs Gold Coast vs elsewhere in 2020?

Swans said 5 was never on the table because Essendon told them in the first meeting that 5 + 9 would not get it done so they therefore never bothered to offer it up... Bombers wanted a gun player.

Saints haul overrated IMO.

Hill, star. Ryder, done. Howard, solid but speculative. Jones and Butler, fringe players in a good team.

For Bruce, Steven and their entire draft hand for 2 years.

It just feels like they are selling hope for the sake of it.. doubt there will be a rapid improvement and IMO, its not the best step for where they are at.

I strongly disagree with this recent notion about the draft being a total gamble. Picks in the top 25-30 are gold these days IMO.

I disagree. The situation with the Suns is a very unique one. They are in the position now of having such a bevy of high picks & draft concessions that they can afford to take a hard line stance if they feel the need to send a message to scavenging Victorian clubs. Pick 9 for Martin & Pick 15 was so fair it wasn't funny.
Yep it was absolutely fair but when a player wants out it doesn’t normally turn out fair because there is a forced hand. The situation isn’t unique to the Suns. I understand the whole “making a stand thing” but will it really be the catalyst for any change. Clubs and players know the Suns aren’t going to continue to make this stance because it will just burn them. And the more they do it the more they stay at the bottom and ironically, the more players want to leave. I can see both sides but I think the price is to high.

50% Carlton, 25% Suns, 25% Other club. Think Blues will be forced to split pick 9 now. Almost certain of it...

The big problem is that their additions do nothing for their already very limited midfield.

Very happy this year. Obviously not a an out and out A greater coming in... but Archee could still be anything and defiantly has some elite attributes that saw him go number 8 in the draft. His speed and marking ability are exceptional. His foot skills also look very sharp. He is underrated quite a bit being off the radar of vic media and having been injured this season.

CEY adds big strong powerful midfielder. Who has good running power. He will take physical load off Mitch Robinson and Berry. He can also better protect Neale, Zorko and McCluggage from hard tags. When fit and at his best he is easily best 22 for us. He was also free.

Birch was free too and has the potential for a year or 2 of elite footy left in him. We are in our premiership window right now. We need his foot skills, finals experience and cool head. There is a lot of risk around his body holding up but if it doesn't he still can offer so much to our developing players ... a free stab a greatness. Great get.

Smart, thought out and well executed. I think Jamie Elliot was something that popped up "off plan" that we had a crack at and came close to getting him.

50/50 Carlton/GC.

How good is he really ? I guess what he needs is a stable environment and a clear run injury wise.

I remember a high profile player manager telling me that Bennell was the best prospect he'd ever seen .
And Leigh Mathews saying that Brennan was the best young player ability wise he'd ever seen before he played that famous first game.

The unknown always gets overrated in football and in life and the sure and steady undervalued

It’s genuinely fascinating. It really does feel like a ripe opportunity for the Suns to make a big line in the sand statement. They have their rescue package, this is their big reset, I think they really are in a good position to make a stand here. Could be a defining moment for them.

That said, I could just as easily see them deciding that you just can’t redraft a player who has made it clear they want out.

The drama of it is fantastic as a neutral. I hope the AFLPA stay out of it. They agreed to the current rules, and should respect them.
