I think the medical team is on way thinner ice than Ross. TBH our management of soft tissue injuries appears substandard. What happened with Hill last yr was crazy and they appear no closer to understanding his load management issues. To late to clean out this yr.

Thinking about it why are seasoned players doing a 4 wk training block then having 2 weeks off? You would lose most of the training effect anyway. Seems pointless.

Get some conditioning in so they don't get injured learning the game plan at our GC camp

Hilly should stop running and cross train on a bike or swimming or rowing to maintain his cardio. It’s a worry that after 3 months since his last game, it’s still sore. He’s a veteran, let him rest it and pick up after Christmas.

The two weeks off would be a mandatory AFLPA thing I presume, as are the restrictions on when they start training 4 weeks before that.

The other clubs would all be the same so we either do those pointless 4 weeks or end up 4 weeks behind the other clubs.

No doubt if the sports scientists ran the AFLPA they wouldn't design the preseason like that, but they have to work with what they're given.

It's always a pretty difficult task for fans, being on the outside of the club, to rate the medical and conditioning staff. After all, all we get is the frustration of players being out and don't get to see the inner workings or the specific detail of something labelled as a "thigh strain".

Are Freo's medico's any worse or better than your bog standard AFL team's? I'd probably like to see some objective evidence before I made any definitive calls, but they rarely seem to get anybody back earlier than expected and players seem to frequently have "complications" that extend out their rehab for weeks and weeks. I have lost a fair bit of confidence in them.

It makes sense doesn’t it. But we have a number of experts earning big bucks saying otherwise.

Yeh, Hilly should be placed on a modified programme. I wonder why the club hasn’t thought of that?

Oh.

This has been discussed quite a bit on other threads. I think the best measure is games lost to injury. It has to be assessed over a number of years. Freo were In the worst quartile in 2016 and 2017. Have not seen figures for 2018 but hard to believe we were in best half of league.

The numbers don’t look good. The conditioning and medical staff are not the only factor. Maintaining players on the list like Bennel, Apeness and Morabito who just don’t get on the park is detrimental to the numbers. I think it safe to say the club is not good at maintaining a fit and available list. Without further info it is difficult to say where the problems lie.

It will be interesting to see at what age the players are when they get injured. I would assume 30+ players are more than likely to get injured than a 25 year old, and I would think an 18 year old is more likely to get injured than a 25 year, but I could be wrong.

Whole squad looks pretty fit. The many chubby youngsters are no more. Just a skinny Sturt that looks a bit out of place but kid has skills.

Darcy looks great, starting to build an AFL footballer shape. He was so chubby looking up against Grundy in Rd23 comparatively.
