Bennell just marked a low kick by Logue, spun it around his back like a basketball then speared it off his left about 25m no more than 2m off the floor directly onto the chest without breaking stride... Dare to dream people.

Hnnnnggg

I’m pretty pumped, seems our availability is top notch this year. Bennell and Logue are essentially new recruits. Even Darcy missed most of preseason last year if I recall correctly.

Bennell, Logue, Hogan, Lobb, Colyer, Conca... not a bad off season. 😳

Had a bit of a look today.

Similar to last time focussed on the rehab group. It was smaller than last time.

Hill, Bennell and Valente started doing some light stretching and walk/jog throughs for about 20 minutes or so.

Bennell then walked off the ground and I too saw the freaky spin and kick to Logue. Bennell seemed to go inside after that. It is either load management or he is reinjured. Couldn’t get a read on it.

Hilly was doing lots of controlled runs throughs. Didn’t seem to get to puffed. Another 3-4 of weeks and he will close to full pace. He does look very fit and strong.

Valente was running really well. He looks like a young Kouta in appearance and running style. He will be back with the main group soon.

Sonny joined the group after the warm up drills and before they started some match sim.In between the runs he was doing high intensity tackling and kicking drills. He was working very hard and was vocal with feedback with the main group. The trainers were talking to him about building constant load running with high intensity bursts (AKA don’t bust your balls on the run because we are doing that with the tackling)

Hogan came over towards the end and did some kick to kick with Sonny. Good chemistry building between them. Hogan then started some running with Kersten and Sturt in what look like a group who are building there fitness.

Sturts pace seems to have increased and was keeping up with Kersten and Hogan. Kersten and Sturt broke off to do some kicking and tckiling drills. Kersten kicked the ball to Sturt about knee high. Sturt cleanly clunked it one handed without bending or even looking at the call. It was like he was sitting in the slips.

Sturt also seems to have a great appetite for work. On one occasion Sturt and Kersten were asked to do a couple of laps. Sturt jogged over grabbed the stop watch and went straight away. Kersten on the other hand strolled over asked some questions and was 150m behind him when he started.

Beautiful day down there and seems to be a great comaradry building between the boys.

LEGEND!

The more I see and hear of Sturt the happier I am we selected him. Draft night I was dubious about him and stoked with 29.

He should also benefit from being introduced in a forward line which now has KPF's receiving the focus of the best defenders.

Thanks for the Sturt observations in particular.

I like it when the club goes for upside in a player, which Sturt has. And I really like it when it works out in the draft that you get a player like Valente who seems to ooze plug-and-play, or close to it. A bit of best of both worlds.

Apart from that grab that you describe, and with him mostly building fitness, The Watchers don't seem to have commented much on the skills that were what he was drafted for; Is that fair to say? I am probably referring to his speed, marking and goal kicking. Has he been involved in match sims, or not yet?

I get the feeling he might be a bit of a treat for those who get along to Peel games, with a possible debut mid-season.

He took a shot at goal on Monday that was immaculate. From well over the boundary line deep in the pocket (further to the goals near the training watchers). Never looked like missing. Sonson tried one too. His was not quite as good.

I've been in the industry for 17yrs.. I measure RF and EMF every time I climb communications towers and I can tell you right now that they are getting more radiation from Mobiles, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth (which isn't that much to worry about btw) than any powerlines or transformer.

Think of it in the same vein as conspiracy theorists sprouting fear of chem trails...

Noticed Sturt today as well.
His running is really balanced and he is an immaculate kick.
I was watching at the east end where Son son was taking set shots with kids retrieving the ball and getting it back to him, he missed as many as he got - grubbered a cracker in the pocket that a few around just laughed and must have thought as I did - gets the difficult one but missed a couple of sodas from 35 on a slight angle.
When he finished I thought I noticed him labouring on a leg - couldn’t tell which one though.
Sturt took about 10 shots at the same end as Walters - further out at about 40 and only about 10m in from the boundary ..... he didn’t miss one that I saw. - he is a beautiful kick.
Even Sturts grab at the ball when kicked to is so clean, agree with everyone elses comments on him.
Match sims were short and sharp- a little underwhelming and lacked fluent ball movement I was expecting- the usual suspects- Fyfe a couple of great grabs - one in particular on the far wing forward was typically Fyfesque around bigger bodies like Meek and Cox.
Mundy moves like he is still in his mid-twenties and his disposal is brilliant.
Thought Brandon Matera was really sharp playing mid/half forward and got involved a lot in the short match sim.
His vision to switch wing - centre half forward created a forward entry that resulted in a Darcy goal.
Darcy is really leaning up and he looks like the puppy is disappearing and the dog is coming out.
Logue is a beast as others have noted, didn’t see him dispose of the ball but his positioning and closing speed whilst playing on Taberner was super effective and impressive. If can get the ball to ground when playing on big fellas like that off half back he will make a huge impact.
Really enjoyed my first training session at Cockburn - but I really miss the Morton Bay Figs at Freo Oval and the old grandstand for a bit of history and soul......

the idea is that most of the far side of the oval will have trees right?

Up on the hill where the powerlines are is supposedly going to be apartments at some stage in the distant future.
