Suns confirm Atkins.
4 years a trigger for a 5th
400k a year
Our board were giving him away for an empty chips packet a month ago until you guys stunningly offered him good money and four years! Cannot possibly fathom why you'd do that as you'll discover when he plays for you next year. Stunned, just stunned - but we'll be loving the compo pick :-)

To be fair a month ago your whole team was as valuable as an empty chip packet.

Greenwood was too slow and old apparently too - So I wouldn’t put a heap of value in your list managements “chip packet” value system.

From the wafl team of the year, for you peel

CENTRE HALF-BACK – CHAD PEARSON (South Fremantle)
Couldn’t be doing any more to bang down the door to get an AFL opportunity. Had the odd run even in the midfield this season but down back he is outstanding. Can play on some of the better key forwards, is an impressive intercept marker and then his kicking skills coming out of the back-line are really what sets him apart. Averaged another 17.6 possessions a game in 2020 and at just 22, already had 57 WAFL games to his name.
Nah too short , just draft GC academy and NT Zone players .

Our BF board wanted him gone, we were giving him away. Go and read our threads from before your interest became public. After that we were delighted to be getting a compo pick for him :)

Sounds like you are here full of hot air and BS and in reality you are salty.

Hahahaha you can have your combo pick , GCS can pre list Alex Davies .

I'd imagine there might be some more players we learn soon we are into. Seems to happen every year. Will be interesting if there is anything with Corbett and Burgess after what Mitch Cleary said on the Sunscast. Burgess really doesn't have a place in the future I don't feel.

Honestly can’t see anyone trading for Chris burgess.
He was solid as a third defender but can’t see anyone clamouring to get him

Port fans: celebrating after reaching the prelim final.

Adelaide fans: celebrating a mid/late second round pick they will receive for yet another player they have ruined just three years removed from taking them to a GF appearance, and attempting to brag about getting one over the powerhouse that is the Gold Coast Suns cos apparently that’s how far they’ve fallen.
;)

Love this
"On the Suns, Will Brodie and Peter Wright are not attracting suitors and might have to stay and work on their weaknesses.

Jarrod Harbrow will sign a new deal but until the Suns are sure of list sizes they won’t know if it’s on the primary or rookie list".

Ummmmm....
I kinda agree that Atkins for 4 years is too long.
And anything above the AFL average is too much.

So, no good from me.

One key question: which other team in the comp would be offering a similar deal for Atkins?
Strongly suspect the answer is none.

It is not a killer deal, but one of the hardest things to do is know when to step back and be patient.

Last year we needed the mature players like Ellis and Greenwood. Big tick.
And we got some big leaps from a lot of players.

This year? Really feels like patience, patience, patience and let the youngest list in the comp age a bit and see what we have at the end of the year.

Maybe Atkins deal is too long , just like Thompson extension , but Dew, Craig Cameron and his team next year have no more excuses and everybody will judge his coaching and their department next year . Next year is the year to get a star player in , not this year.

This is a bit of a worry given the Suns need to clear list spots , some dollars and possibly attract a gun midfielder and tall forward.

Perhaps some other names could be thrown into the trade mix and see what comes of it ie McLennan, MacPherson (possible West Bulldogs connection), Fiorini, Lemmons and even Rosa (Ace can cover him), all are outside best 22 so worth a shot.

I think Lemmens and MacPherson still play important aspects to the team. Both had down years but still played good games. Darcy's goal from the boundary was still one of my highlights of the season. I really like the depth we've got now, just need to trim some players who are highly likely not going to make it.

2MP and Brodie not attracting interest puts into perspective exactly how clubs view these guys, all media and oppo supporter bias aside. They see all the problems that we as GC supporters do.

I think it also shows we are substantially overpaying them compared to their output. Clubs are balking at their price tag.

It does unfortunately seem we would have to pay some of their wages to make them more appealing to other clubs.

But we probably only do that if we have a best 22 player lined up ready to trade in.

ie. Trade out Wright/Brodie - $900k per year.
Pay $400k of that.

Use the remaining $500k per year to bring in a best 22 player.

It may explain the lukewarm interest in Broad - maybe we can't commit yet until other dominoes fall?

A lot can happen between now and trade period stuff will happen and change, who knows.
yup, majority of the interest will come once the finals finish and teams start to focus on the trade more.
