Are you this person George?
Yeah there's people at the club that come on here. I made them aware of this place when I had the opportunity to meet Matt Finnis a few years ago. Everyone here sent me some ideas on how the club could improve and they implemented a few. Since then they've listened to supporters a lot more. That long drawn out "Oh When the Saints" chant that you would've heard at the football in 2018 - that came from here. It would've really kicked on if supporters here were more like supporters in the EPL. Was worth a shot nevertheless.

And other bits and pieces along the way that they've added have come from here.

I don’t rate the idea of swingmen tbh. It can work occasionally but there aren’t too many key position players who go back or forward regularly at ease. Would much rather give Battle consistent blocks in a position rather than throw him around based on match ups/balance.
Isn't it a good thing to be versatile?

It is a notion that sounds good but I don’t necessarily think it’s best for a players development. I’m not saying players should be locked into one position, but I don’t really like it when key position players get thrown around during the game, eg Carlisle or Harry Taylor. It rarely has the intended effect. Cale Hooker does it well but it’s taken him a long time to get it right. I think it is a challenge for young players. Versatility is good after playing different positions for consistent periods of time before settling on one area of the ground (eg Riewoldt, Hurley, McGovern).

Its the spread out nature of how we fill the stadiums over here. When they're half empty here they're spread out and mixed in with opposition supporters - in the EPL everyone ends up more condensed even if it is a low turnout and they are always amongst their own - it's more conducive to chanting - it's not the supporters themselves.

I really like some of the things the club has tried, The slow chant, some of the goal celebration songs, the players chants, it's a shame the supporters can't try and get behind them a bit more.

maybe if the supporters were not so damn pessimistic all the time, some of these might actually have a chance.
I'd much rather bring my family, be a dill, sing the chants and songs with my kids so that they enjoy it than sit there in silence like a funeral.

don't give up, keep trying

It's people not showing up. When there is no-one around you, you feel a bit stupid making lots of noise.

It’s good to have a good swing man I don’t think Battle is ready for it yet. Let him play back or forward for the year
I agree, but then I also didn't think he'd be ready to play in defence well last year. He may be naturally adaptable. Might be worth a try.

Maybe the coaching staff don't see Battle as a key position player. Maybe he has the skillset to be successful in multiple roles.

I don’t know why the slow Saints chant hasn’t been persisted with. I remember when we beat GWS at home in 2017 the whole crowd joined in. It was spine tingling. People were singing it with real emotion. I was sitting with a mate is a Tigers supporter and he thought it was sensational.

I think it’s something that would become very popular when we are winning most weeks. It was unique and something we could call our own.

I think people tend get get behind the team and things like this when the sides winning a lot more, its understandable. Its hard to cheer a goal when your 40 points behind at 1/2 time and the songs tend to encourage the bronx cheer scenario.

Its a massive shame the supporters didnt get behind the chant. Ive had opposition supporters tell me it absolutely sounded intimidating right before the game. Shame really.
